It depends on the value of what you buy! If I won £150m and I bought Oliver Burke for £10m I'd tell people that I'd won £140m

Seriously though, the wage increases wouldn't count in the same way that you describe, because you're not getting anything 'extra' for the money (as opposed to buying new players). The asset value of the existing players might increase, but probably not as much as their wages. In your analogy, the equivalent would be me winning £100,000 on a scratch card, and £50,000 of it automatically going to an ex-wife. That way, I would have only 'won' £50,000. So in short, promotion is still generally worth less than the £150m that is always cited.
