From a supporters and management viewpoint we can all see this year we are going to be real contenders. We have recruited excellently and Hecky has done a great job of balancing the back three (Norrington-Davies being a good example).
To my point, promotion is worth at least £150 million plus any further parachute payments so why on earth would you let anyone leave unless the full asking price is achieved, even £30 million for Berge would be peanuts compared to the potential riches. This window is a real test for the prince, the club has invested wisely and is in an enviable position.
Hold your nerve and don't sell!
Makes me laugh people wanting to gamble using other peoples money.
Would any supporters be willing to hold their nerve and put £1000 in the kitty.
If we get promoted you get £1500 back, if we fail to gain promotion you lose your £1000.
These are very small amounts compared to what's at stake, so would you gamble your house away regards us gaining promotion.
Also if we did hold our nerve and still failed to get promotion and this lead to us having a points deduction and doing a Derby County.
I wonder how many fans would stay with the club? I reckon the vast majority on here would be giving the owners hell, suggesting they are the worse and most irresponsible owners. Many would be saying it was madness to gamble the future of the club and it was pure greed by the owners.
I remember similar stuff when we were trying to buy Maupay, then McBurnie, then Brewster.
Loads of fans were insisting we wouldn't buy any of these players because we lack ambition
Several even said that Brewster is guaranteed to be a top talent, so pay him what ever he wants and we'll be able to sell for £50 million in a few years when he's kicking around the England team. My point is that risks that look like "sure things" sometimes don't work.
However even though I try to be pessimistic, must admit that with Berge we look like certs for top 2.
Although even without Berge we still have a realistic chance of top 2, but Berge makes us stronger.
To be honest it all depends on the bid, if it's under 20 million then it's not worth considering but close to 25 million makes it tempting.
I suppose a compromise that might be more acceptable is that we sell him for £25 million but are allowed to keep him for this season.
So the other team get their man at a reasonable price, we are promoted back to the PL but we then lose Berge next season and need to buy a replacement.
