All three have had chances to put us 2 up in the last two games, and all three haven't even hit the target. It isn't good enough at all and is only of the primary reasons we will be going down.

If you hit the target you have a reasonable chance of a detection taking it in (as with Bogle), or the keeper pushing it out to another player. Part of the issue here is, I suspect, a lack of composure, partly down to the position we are in, but also because these chances are not falling to strikers.

I'd have preferred to see:

Fleck to hit it across the keeper
Stevens to have attempted to pick out Didzy at the the back post.
Burke to have put his foot through it towards the middle of the goal rather than the top corner.

We have to start making the opposition keeper work. It's all far too easy for them at the moment.

Agreed, we had the chances to seal that game. The stevens one was the big one, from the position he was in you have to hit the target.

Burke’s was way easier, on his correct side, he’s a striker and if it goes in its game over. That was the big one.

He isn't a striker though, he creates chaos but comes apart when a good chance comes his way. We need Burke to create the chances but the likes of Brewster/McBurnie/Moose need to step up and convert them. We are better when Burke plays fact, others have to step up.

All this week I would solely have the team on shooting practice.

Stevens scored a great goal against Bournemouth (wasit) from a very similar position, but much water has flowed under the bridge regarding Stevens form since then.

But credit to him he is getting forward more nowadays.
It was against Brighton at the lane last season.

He's not a striker/goal scorer. It has never been one of his attributes. I'd still expect him to at least hit the target from that chance. Hard to criticise him too much as he was excellent.

its not hard to criticise that miss! It was woeful! Yes he played very well, no one can say otherwise, but that miss in the circumstances was criminal!! He's one on one, favoured foot, time and space, a touch to put it where he wants and he did that! As you can tell i've still not calmed down about it!

Don't get me wrong. I was swearing my head off when he missed it!

Stevens' miss was at 0-0 and was on the wrong side for him; the ball had come too far across to hit accurately with his left but with it being Stevens he wasn't ever going to use his right. It's a miss but it's not glaring.

Burke's was a decent chance but if it's not the 85th minute after he's being sprinting for the best part of an hour it's far more likely that he'd have the compusure to take a small touch to settle the ball rather than trying to hit it as it rolled across him.

Fine margins on both which help explain them missing the target. Fleck, on the other hand, couldn't have asked for the opportunity to be set up better and there's no excuse for him not hitting the target.

Didn't Burke have a bit of time as the only defender was sprinting towards the ball also and couldn't stop easily? Why not control the ball and then shoot?

Burke had a good game, I like him and he should start most games for us but when you lean back like that and not show any composure at all you know it’s never going to end well. Forward or not, leaning back like that is something you learn as a youngster, not a 23 year old professional. He also fell over straight after it yet again which isn’t a good trait for a professional footballer to have.

He’s a strange one because I do like him but some of the things he brings to the table are almost amateur like, his pace and willingness to run though will create havoc for the opposition defenders.

I like Burke but that miss was criminal.

In those circumstances you've got to fucking bury that chance.

2 extra points and our first win of the season thrown away in one careless swipe at the ball.

Burkes pace is a blessing but it does make it very difficult to get shots on target. If he aims for the middle of the goal at his pace it's going to always fly wide.

Similar to how you can throw rugby ball backwards out of a car window but it actually lands further forward from where you released it.

To hit the middle/right hand side of the goal yesterday he would actually have needed to aim for the left hand corner of the goal.

Yeah I don’t mean to criticise him, he’s been really good for us. I just mean if we have to label a chance ‘the big one’ it’s that one.

Composure. Players at the elite level either have it or they don't.

A look at the goals Man Utd scored against us shows what world class finishing is all about and why these players are Premium.

For those who have played the game AND been coached - and it doesn't matter what level or who coached you - you HAVE to hit the target and make the goal keeper work to keep it out. It's players such as Aguero that can hit the margins and still score.

Lunnys first touch caused him to stretch and get sent off.

Burkes first touch was for me poor - it sent him too wide to the right with a ball that wasn't set in front of him - he ended up chasing it with his wrong foot before shooting over.

Stevens simply has to hit the target - the fact it's his left foot and the ball is going left to right - he has to hit the target and make the keeper work.

We're amateurs - these are professionals and it totally suns up us being bottom of the league as our players have been making wrong decisions ever since the 2nd game of the season in terms of finishing - even Lunnys penalty v Villa was poor.

If Burke could finish and had that pace do you think he'd be playing of us?! Difficult as late on and he looked shattered but should have done better.

Stevens was a hard chance on the wrong angle and it would have been a great strike if it went in.

Fleck is the more puzzling one. There was an obvious place to hit it, across the keeper and he tried to go for the near post which looked pretty well covered.

I keep hearing this first point. Does that mean we are playing a forward up front, who, because he's quick, we have no right to expect him to notch any goals?

His pace has added a new dimension but in front of goal he couldn't finish his dinner.

There are some basics, like hitting the inside of that large rectangular space from 8 yards that all footballers should be masters of. This can be coached. He needs to be practicing this, it's such a basic skills for na elite footballer.

Noticed Werner missed a similar chance for Chelsea last night. Hopefully Burke will get a goal soon. Meanwhile, I think we should appreciate his contribution to our general play.

Its something we've been guilty of for a while, arguably since we were in the Championship where we don't test the keeper enough.

At that level, we had enough of the ball and created enough clear cut chances for it not to really matter but lack of goals was a concern last year and even more so this time with a defence with more holes than colander so any way to bag an easy/lucky goal is worth a try. I remember some criticism about picking Jack Robinson just for his long throw but even something like that where a misjudgment or a shanked clearance could end up in our favour, whatever it takes at the moment!
