Every club in the league has 2 figures regards attendance.
The ticket office have number of tickets sold which includes season ticket holders
And for safety reasons the club also keep a figure regards actual attendees.

Decades ago…..think most clubs only gave the attendees figure.
However a trend since about 2000 which now applies to every club in the league is that they give the “tickets sold” figure.

It’s been going on in the Premier league for years.
Remember when Arsenal were going threw hard time in 2020, on the Match of the Day you’d see big areas of empty seats but the offices attendance was always given as over 60K. Same with Sunderland during their relegation season, you could see the ground was barely half full, with no more than 25K at the match.
Newcastle fans used to take the micky when the attendance was always announced as 42K every home match.
Man City’s ground has the knickname “emptyhad” and for some matches there are loads of empty seats but again the official attendance is given as full.

So 21,578 is the tickets sold figure…..which means it becomes the official attendance and is correct and consistent with every other club.

Attendance on BBC Sport is 21k.
Clearly it must have been actually about 7k.
You can't fault the attitude of the players and coaching staff in what must be incredibly difficult circumstances. Boro should have been out of sight by half time but Wednesday were still very much in the game.
It will be interesting to see if they boycott the game with us, given that it will undoubtedly be shown live on TV.

Watched 1st half and i cant see how there was over 3k pig fans there. North stand 300 @ most, tit was the same, south stand was hard to see but looked 500 max.

Looking highly likely the game will be disrupted, what’s the ruling on matches being called off due to invasion of the pitch and the ref decides to abandon the game for safety reasons? Is this then rescheduled, in which case it’s inevitable the same would happen if their fantastic chairman is still in situ, or would they forfeit the points? Alternatively the EFL could transfer the game back to the Lane?

Dunno if they've changed the rule, but I was at that fiasco of an away game when the Cov fans were protesting against SISU. That one eventually finished once the fans were cleared.

We took the lead first half and they equalised, then Sharp scored a late winner straight after the protest. Loved that goal and his celebration

The EFL seem to be doing all in their power to maintain the integrity of the competition, despite Wednesday’s best efforts, a la another emergency keeper loan for their Boro game.

I’d imagine them trying to get the game called off would have serious repercussions after such leniency. Ironically, as stated elsewhere, their boycotting actually damages the club, not the owner, so all seems a bit silly.
