Hendo happy to stay

If he takes a pay-cut to something we can afford then he stays, otherwise he goes. No point in going bust over one player. Actually this sounds a bit like the Beattie argument and look how that turned out.

The key thing with introducing kids is that they have experienced players to look after them and for them to learn from. In the same way as Harry Maguire will learn from Chris Morgan, Jordan Slew will learn from Darius Henderson.
Absolutely 100% spot on.

We could get someone cheaper to do the same job. Get rid IMO

I'm sure he is happy to stay on his £15k a week. Don't think McCabe or Tricky will feel the same - especially when the latter needs to fund his approx £350k per annum from somewhere.

Unfortunately Mic your way off as usual. His contract is performance related. at the moment his basic is 7.5k.

I dont believe Hendos contract is that low with performance related bonus'. He certainly is one of our top earners, behind Ched and although I love it when Mica is way off I dont believe he is this time.

If he signs a new deal on the terms you mentioned I think he will be able to stay. Otherwise I think a local replacement might be found, cheeper.

Has anyone on here actually seen a players wage packet. I have, they get paid monthly and it varies massively from month to month, whenever I see someone saying someone is on --- a week I always view it with a pinch of salt.

He won't be here next season. We can't afford him or Ched. I'd say he is just trying to get the boo boys off his back with a loyalty pledge.

If by some miracle we could afford him, I think he'd dominate an intensely physical league. Here's to hoping.

That is due to performance/appearence bonus' or evan how many games they've had. Their basic contract is normaly on a ppw basis, wouldnt you agree ?

True, but he was part of the squad that was earning over £20 Million per season. I'd be pretty certain he's on a huge, unsustainable salary for England's third division.

Hendo's on 13k a week.
The question is whether United can afford not to have a fit Henderson next season.

Aye, Van Basten move over. Calm it down Leonard....:)

Define a fit Henderson? Is it one who's fit at the time of contract negotiation yet misses two thirds of the season through niggly injuries and suspensions?

Paying ANY of our players anywhere near that figure would be madness in the third division.

Could be wrong on the figure but had a recollection that was the amount touted about when United were trying to offload him a while back.
For the sake of argument, let's say it's £10k a week.
I'd hazard a guess some of the players at Huddersfield, Southampton, possibly Peterborough and quite probably our nearest and dearest are on that amount.
Three of them will be in the top six, the other almost certainly will be next season.
It would be a risk but we go back to how we've managed the club in the last couple of years and whether that has remotely worked.
In an ideal world, Evans and Cresswell would be shipped out but Henderson is probably the most saleable of all three.

Apart from youngsters I wouldnt class many of our players saleable.

good old len always biggin up the pigs

he did great v reading but if we go down we would need to balance the books i guess.

Radio Five said there would likely be 3 teams next year in Leaque 1 with wage bills over three million.

If we are to set our stall out for promotion next season, then i would keep Henderson without hesistation. He will be the focal point of our attack next season, and i don't think it is any co-incidence that once he finally regained his fitness, we look a better side for it. If people bothered to appreciate what he brings to the team, then they would understand what he brings to the team. His link up play is good, he has a knack of being able to develop a decent understanding with whoever his strike partner, and he isn't afraid to do a lot of donkey work, and his goalscoring record although not world class is decent.

There is a lot of speculation about what he is on at the Lane, but who knows one way or another. It might be the case that he is on £20k a week, but i very much doubt it as he came in at a time when United was beginning to shift a lot of the higher earners off the wagebill. I'd guess he would be on between £8k and £10k with various clauses written in, and i think for next season that represents value for money as a fully fit Darius Henderson will be the type of player who would be ideal for our requirements in League 1

If we are where we are as a result of overspending, why is it a good idea to continue? I thought we were happy to go down in order to stabilse the club?

Yes to Henderson, but only on an affordable wage, with bigger penalties for getting sent off built in.

That will probably be the deciding factor in any case. If he takes the pay cut then he stays. Apparently he says he owes the club because of the way they have looked after him during his injury. However we have heard that one before, normally shortly before Neil comes knocking.

Henderson has 2 big problems:

- he cannot stay fit and can't avoid getting suspended. He has started less than half of the league game since he signed, and has totalled only 73 out of a possible 136 appearances. Plus he's been sent off 4 times. Even if I were to accept Brownie's rosy view of him, which I don't (how anyone can have seen him play against Boro and Bristol City and say he's behind our recent uptrun in form is beyond me), he's a cert to miss games for one reason or another sooner or later.

We have wasted enough money on players who had terrible injury records before we signed them - Jordan, France, Richard Wright. This sort of idiocy has to stop.

- he doesn't score enough. 20 goals in 73 games is not a decent record, except at the side of the other stiffs we have on the books. Those goals were his first in 14 games, and he has had 3 other scoreless runs of 8 games or more, the longest being 15 games.

As for salary, it was widely reported at the time of his signing that Henderson was on the region of 17K per week.

I thought Henderson was under contract next year. If he was, I'd be looking for offers for him, as there's better things to spend 17 grand a week on. Like a defence.

Of all the nonsense on here, this takes some beating Clinty my old son.

Yes - do a google search for Riise's (JA) payslip which got onto net when he was at Liverpool. The monthly pay is shown then it lists out appearance money and win bonuses etc.

In my opinion 20 goals from 73 games is actually a pretty good record for a target man. His primarily role should be as a foil to Jordan Slew, the way he created the chance for Slew's winner against Bristol City was classic centre forward play.

Its no coincidence that we have suddenly started making at least double the chances we were before he came back. As for the Boro game he could/should have had 4 ,but at least we were making these chances and the bloke had hardly played for a year. From what I hear from someone at Donny ,Henderson loves it here and wouldn't want a move out of the area. He is also one of the most feared players in the division ,ask Byron Webster.

You know them things with loads of numbers in - well there called accounts. It says what the highest paid director was on. I think this is Birch but no doubt you will say it doesn't say Birch so it could be someone else. Birch joined on 1 December 2009 I believe so gross the figure up for 12 months. Accounts should be on the website.

I read the question as referring to Hendo's wages, not a reference to Birch, who i'm sure would be the highest paid director.

So far we've had confirmation that it's 17.5k, 15k, 13k, possibly 10k and 7.5k, that's a fair spread and that suggests nobody knows.

We need to decide on a maximum wage for next season. Only if Henderson is willing to accept that we should consider keeping him. His comments about wanting to stay means little if he demands to keep his wage.

Wanting to stay on huge wages in League One, rather than taking a wage drop at a Championship Club doesn't show much loyalty.

Maybe there's a compromise through offering him another year if he takes a drop next season with incentives built in for appearances, goals, promotion (which is probably standard anyway).

Exactly. And add to that an average of little over 20 games per season and a strike rate of about 1 in 4, and it's clear anything over about £5K per week look poor value.

If we're going to blow 20% of your entire gate money on one single player, he has to be reliable, consistent and a real match winner. Henderson ticks none of those boxes. Worth keeping only after a drastic pay cut - the type which will really test his loyalty to us.

Can only echo what most have said; if he takes a wage drop, then keep him as he will absolutely pillage League 1. He's a better version of Neil Mellor and he's scored a good few this season.

He's injury prone, stupid and can be absolute arse on any given day, but his attitude is excellent IMO:

His attitude is excellent and he's a very decent centre forward at Championship level. Cut out the injuries and the silly sendings off and he can give anyone an uncomfortable 90 minutes. If we keep him and he can stay on the pitch he will score 20 goals in League One without breaking into a sweat.
