have it on good authority that evans is gone.. that's why he isn't playing:hello:

On a side note, I think people may be getting carried away with Slew. Young lads often start very well then fade (Freddy Sears scored on his Premiership debut then didn't score again for about three years, despite loan spells in the Championship), plus we don't know how much football he can take without burning out. Expecting him to take the League by storm if he's paired with a big unit like Henderson is probably a bit premature.

Agreed, we need to have alternatives so that you can take him out of the firing line, give him a rest, and then re-introduce him later.

Exactly so. Give him a run in the side by all means, but it would be foolish to build our attack around him and rely on him for goals, I would have thought.

Maybe thats why we are looking at bringing one in, plus there is Danny Philliskirk who's in a similar boat to Slew.

Any idea who, Bob?

Obviously it will depend on who goes out, I suppose.

Davies has certainly been watched and has worked with Adams before. He is at a cross roads in his Chesterfield career where has turned down a couple of new contract offers, and I think a move probably is on the cards for him. I believe there are offers from other clubs but he would have to relocate, so its an interesting one.

He is available, if we can do a deal or even if we want to a deal is unknown.

That said I think we are looking at more than one player from Chesterfield at the moment which is why Harry has been on spying missions.

It's bloody brillant that he has managed to hit the back of the net 3 times, all be it 1 disallowed, in his last 3 games will be a massive boost to his confidence, it's also a testament to show that with the right players around him he could develop into a very capable player for the club. But I agree with you both, even though he has been a breath of fresh air he still needs to be nurtured and developed in the right way, as do all the other youngsters coming through, its vital that we get them games but its also vital that we don't try to rush their development and overuse them.

Which is why keeping Jamie Ward is important also. Hendo needs a quick un alongside him to pick up the flick on's etc. The way Metal Mickey plays thats going to be the way forwards.

Not a chance in hell.

No brainer for me. Hendo is a must if we can afford him.
He has taken a lot of stick recently but to expect him to perform at his best after 11 months out is ludicrous.
The fact that he gets into positions to score shows he is on the right wavelength. He's done that more times than Evans has all season.

The other key reason is to bring on Slew. He will learn so much playing alongside Hendo and score many more goals because Hendo will set them up for him or create the space for him to exploit.

The other thing that people tend to forget about Henderson is that he is very good at defending set pieces and god knows we have needed that. Compare this with Ched (never attempted to head the ball if he can avoid it) Evans. No contest.

A Championship club have been looking at him and he wouldn't have to relocate. If they firm up their interest, I wouldn't give us much of a chance of getting him.

Henderson was believed to be on 14k a week when QPR were after him during the summer (http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/foot...ld_united_s_163_14_000_a_week_darius_1_854612)

A quick search around and it seems that 14k a week is the approximate figure. This would fit with the figures banded around here and the position of the club at the time.

Henderson would have to take a significant cut to stay at the Lane next year. We are talking 50 percent or more. We simply cannot afford to be paying players more than 5/6k a week.

There are a couple of factors that come into this:

- his (pesky) agent - will he advocate over a 50 percent decrease?
- we could command a fee for him - if an offer comes in for anything above 500k then we simply have to consider it. It is hard cash and 500k a week off the wage bill.
- oter big earners. We are liekly to see Monty, Quinn and Evans all lave. But what about the likes of Cresswell, even Ertl and Boggy. Players on unsustainable salaries that we might not be able to shift. If we cannot shift some f the afor mentioned then we will simply have to sell!

Hendo is from Donny and perhaps he is settled up North. If he is actually serious and loves the club and is around his family then perhaps he will stay. Is he serious about loving the club and that he owes us? We will see. We have heard this stuff before and I am sceptical.

Personally I would offer him a new contract of 5k (abolute maxiumim 7) a week and then stick extras on for appearences and goals. This seems perfectly reasonable if he is serious. He will then get rewarded for staying fit and hitting the back of the net. If e is not willing to accept then we will have no problem getting hi off the wage bill and getting a fee.

It is all simpy speclation at the moment. I would like to see him stay, BUT only on the right terms. I have opnely stated that we need a sustainable wage bill (65 percent of turnover) and it is importat we lear from our mistakes (i.e. paying unsustainable salaries). If we can keep Big Darius the I think he wuld be a real force. He is experienced and would work well with the likes of Slew, Philskirck, Tonne or AN other. I would like to think he can ut his very poor United record behind him and blast in 20 goals next year.

Hey kids, theres bad maths and then theres bad maths.

1. Henderson was great against Reading. I slagged him off (deservedley) v Boro, but aginst Reading he was more man than man.
2. No way hell be staying. Pleanty of championship clubs would like Henderson and will pay his wages.
