I woukd expect a more experienced player to organise the defence vocally ,ensuring that the defender nearest to him doesnt wander off and leave him exposed

That's the difference between Robinson and holding
I agree entirely that Holding should always have been selected above JLT.

However, In the specific situation for Sunderland’s first goal, our defence was actually well organised, but Burrows literally sprinted out of position to try to get the ball, which was immediately passed back into the space that he had vacated.

JLT’s lack of pace then meant that it was either a goal opportunity or a penalty. Holding on the pitch would probably have had sufficient pace to force Mayenda wider and restrict him to a cross, but the goal was caused by Burrows’ defensive indiscipline.

Of course the second came from Wilder not getting Holding on quickly enough for a concussed Anel, leaving a big hole that Vini had left while covering at CB. This created the opportunity for Kieffer to provide his perfect assist!!

That is the tragic aspect of that loss - both of their goals should have been prevented by our players and coaches just doing their job properly.

UTB & FTP!

How long does Selles get under this fail fast approach?
Same goes for AI recruitment process.

We've lost quality resources for this level in Souza, Ahmedhodzic, Choudhury, Moore, Soutter, Diaz, others.

It's board level that is failing, and failing fast!
I think getting stuffed 4-1 in the first game of the season counts as failing fast 😄

Not sure AI recruitment can even be judged yet.
Barry was a player known to Selles last season, Bindon was with him at Reading as well, wasn’t he? 3 AI recruits from the Bulgarian league didn’t even make the bench and Ukaki didn’t get on and neither did Soumaré.

Selles will be long gone before the owners realise they should’ve spent the summer recruiting. They’ve failed to prepare and therefore are preparing to fail…. They might need to act fast to bring players in

Yes, I've seen a few people using today's loss as some kind of proof against "AI", but I'm really struggling, looking at the line up, how that's the case?

Time to take some of those risks now. Spend some money on proper defenders.
Have these new owners actually got any money to spend? I question if they do considering the recent borrowing by them. Would not surprise me if the lowering of the wage bill and transfer fees were going into their own pockets.

I sure hope so because this will be the last season of parachute payments.

We have lost 5 players from the starting 11 at Wembley.....The board now need to back their new guy or it makes a complete mockery of replacing Wilder.
