I don’t know if it’s a conscious thing to be the polar opposite to Wednesday fans but we have the most miserablist support base in football by some distance. It’s so OTT sometimes it’s unreal. Even when things are going well there is always an arms race to spin it into a negative.

I’d add to that I really struggle to think of another set of supporters in this day and age who refuse to trust anything other than an English “meat and potatoes” manager, preferably one with some prior connection to the club.
This is true. I don’t know if it was here or X where someone posted about our terrible “history” with foreign managers. We have had one previous foreign manager who was essentially shackled from doing the type of thing he did well, and ousted after a couple of months. That’s a rich history right there.

without being horrible youve made an assumption without research because youve only really been in this forum since may.

i think wilder is amazing. but when you have had 10 years of basically the same manager in 3 spells. then getting used to someone isnt going to happen overnight & people will panic, go back to what they deem as "safe" . history is just repeating itself with wilder after southend in 2015
Uhm you mean I’ve only really posted since May. Big difference.

I don't think it will break until someone else from outside South Yorkshire get us promoted (last 4 I think?)
Yep, you have to go back to 1990 for a promotion not overseen by someone from an "S" postcode.
2023: CH>PL Paul Heckingbottom (Barnsley)
2019: CH>PL Chris Wilder (Sheffield)
2017: L1>CH Chris Wilder (Sheffield)
2006: CH>PL Neil Warnock (Sheffield)
1990: D2>D1 Dave Bassett (London)
1989: D3>D2 Dave Bassett (London)
What the flatearthers don't realise is that all our relegations in the last 30 years have also come under Yorkshiremen
2024: PL>CH Chris Wilder (Sheffield)
2021: PL>CH Chris Wilder* (Sheffield) / Paul Heckingbottom (Barnsley)
2011: CH>L1 Mickey Adams (Sheffield)
2007: PL>CH Neil Warnock (Sheffield)
1994: PL>D1 Dave Bassett (London)
*while Heckingbottom was in charge when we were confirmed relegated, he only had 9 games as interim manager and we were bottom on 14 points from 29 games when he took over. That relegation was 90% on Wilder.

Take Ndiaye out of the team and you realise what a limited manager Hecky really was. He was lucky to have a player like that, but without Ndiaye we were nothing and the boring crap football with no style of play and no plan B was evident to just how limited Hecky was. He had no tactical nuance about him and only made changes after the event instead of before to prevent it. Lovely bloke and I have no animosity towards him, but he was a bang average manager.

Haven’t been this uninspired about a season 2 games in since David Weir and even he won the 1st of 2 games.

Huddersfield Town went with Lee Grant who has never managed an club over this guy, we replaced Chris Wilder with him!

Warnock coming back and saving us from relegation when we’ve held on to this lemon for too long and seeing our parachute payment advantage sail off in to the sunset is as good as this season’s gonna get.

I was quite surprised by this, as Hecky's always come across as very level-headed to me.

I think the referee, James Bell, must have done something pretty egregious in a previous encounter with Hecky, for Hecky to have acted like that.

I really like Hecky - he's always come across as a sound bloke to me, and I just can't imagine him acting like that without just cause.

I like Hecky as well. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that the ref was indeed a lying cnut,

Seems the ref in question was a 4th official at a previous game where he stated that PH had punched the tunnel wall. PH got sanctioned for this and suspended. PH got statements from Watford staff that this did not take place yet the Commission found in the officials favour. PH had warned the PGMOL that this was the first game with this official since the sanction and he had a problem with Bell being appointed to the game. Bell was told of PH's concerns but insisted on trying to shake PH's hand when he refused. That escalated the situation when it could have been avoided if Bell had just left it alone. Sounds like a look at me ref so PH's reaction is understandable. Unfortunately when you question refs integrity there is only one winner. That shouldn't be the case but invariably it is.

Reading his match report he comes across as smug and desperate for attention. Then again he is a pig fan lol. Thankfully that prevents him from officiating us.

I went to school with James Bell, massive Wednesday fan. Also used to try and ref the lunchtime kick about even when we were 15/16 years old but no-one listened.

I would add that although I haven't spoken to him for probably 8-10 years, he always seemed a decent bloke (for a hog) and not someone who I would say was ever dishonest.

Sounds like a reyt Bell

Still think Hecky is a top bloke and a top manager and I’d believe what his version of events were over the lying Wednesday bag of shite, any day of the week.

Love it that he’s made such a stand on principle and taken his newest ban on the chin.

I wondered why he was in the stands for the EFL highlights last night.

Still think that Apple Ear Pods look like weird earrings

It may not be the worst decision in the world but I can't help thinking you're taking the piss. After one fuckin game? Everyone is laughing at you. God help us.

A brilliant reading of the future from the OP, which the above response didn;t agree with.

It's fair to say that after 5 games, nobody was laughing at the OP. Nobody was laughing at anything.

Our modern 'progressive manager' to replace the dinosaur Wilder, was a complete charlatan who has lost us a season and wasted our parachute payments.
And yet, some still jibe at CW and can't wait to put the boor in.

Is it too much to ask for some good old fashioned 'supporting', and just getting behind the team, whatever happens?

Most surprising thing here is that Peter Ridsdale is still alive

I had no idea the referee in question was from the dark side - that explains it, then!

So the problem that this referee has with Hecky isn't that Hecky did this:

fuck-this-shit-fuck-this.gif

But that Hecky did this:

James Bellend!

What's Hecky actually done wrong here? even if what he originally did was true. He hasn't hurt anyone or attacked anyone physically. I don't see why Hecky has to shake his hand either? Players have refused to shake hands with other players etc.

That report just shows how self important officials are and I do think the ref's own personal bias is at play here.

What a surprise to hear that a ref is a twat!

There is a lot of fluff in that report. It only needed
Who was there?
What was said / done and by whom?

Oh and for modern little whistle princesses:
How did it make you feel?
Can you show us on the teddy bear where the nasty man touched / didn't touch you?

Heckie always comes accross as an hounest mild manned bloke .!
For him to react like that ! Out of character for him ! You can bet he felt hard done too
I’m not ‘totally’ sure about the mild-mannered. 🤣. There was a great interview with him in the run up to our FA cup semifinal where he talked about managing his instincts and the fact that quite often he’d rather have a fight than an argument - whilst coming across as a highly intelligent and genuine bloke.

I like his approach here and the ref comes across as an absolute whopper.

Yes he sounds like a school yard bully
! I love to see them get there dues! Which hopefully is not far away.
Heckie is a good coach and is normally well contained so obviously was wronged and felt the frustration coming up against him in the tunnel.
He will be even more frustrated now with this punishment! Hopefully justice prevails.
I reckon he also was unlucky to get the sack when our manager ! Left in a position by the Prince with no chance of escaping the drop.In some ways Sellers wad left in a similar position and Wilder stepped in again.
Wouldnt surprise me if he goes on to be a good coach! Although we had to sack him or we would have gone down in my opinion.

I think Hecky & Stuart are a good fit for Preston, no pressure and the fanbase don't expect much. He and Stuart seem to decent blokes and I hope they can make the playoffs (but not against us, lol) Preston fans can only dream with him in charge, so good luck!
Problem is that the PNE fan base do expect quite a lot despite having one of the smallest budgets in the league. A thankless job to take imo, you'd have to perform a miracle to get play offs and a par performance gets you relegated.
