He deserves it

Anyone care to elaborate on this story for those of us who cannot access the main site whilst at work?

i'm still not convinved about him to be honest, looks like he has the ability to beat a man but we've only seen it is patches. The lack of a regular starting place hasn't helped no doubt, i hope he is given a few consecutive starts in the run up to xmas.

I agree he certainly deserves more games.

I do ask that people copy and paste things... but do they listen?

Do they buggery...

David Carney is hoping for an extended run in the team to show what he can do.

The Australian midfielder, who played the majority of Tuesday's win over Ipswich Town, says there is more to come as his match sharpness improves.

"It was good to get a start, especially almost 90 minutes, which is what I needed," confirmed Carney, who is likely to boost his match fitness further during the international week when the Socceroos face Nigeria in London.

"It was fast and furious on Tuesday and it was good for me, working on my match fitness - a couple more games and I should be flying.

"When I came here I just wanted to play but I've had a few niggling injuries and now I'm just glad to get a chance."

Of the team in general, Carney added: "It was a good win on Tuesday night and we are looking to put a few more together. We are only five points off the play-off teams - two or three wins and we could be up amongst it.

"The lads are confident and it's a very long season but we know that Stoke will be a massive game, three points are be vital."

The only problem I can see with Carney is he looks like a rabbit in headlights sometimes when he gets the ball and there's no immediate option on.

Using firefox is the easiest option :D Or..... crappy ie you have to be quick.

Im not sure if any of you are aware of this but afew months ago Carney started for the Socceroos against Argentina and he was put on Lionel Messi. Carney had a great game and saved a certain goal by Messi will a great tackle. He is highly regarded in Australia so i hope he can find a way onto your first 11.

yeah man, he played a blinder saturday against stoke, and well when we got hammered by gunners lol, i think he should be in the startin 11, problem is, now we are buildin a team thats hard to choose lol

You think? I thought he was one of our worse performers on Saturday.

jeeeeeeesus man, how do you figure? lol

He was always down the wing and back in defence when we most needed him, granted he didnt take one oppertunity, but he made up for it with the chances he caused.

I only recall one decent ball from him all game.

He was forever passing to opposition and pulling out of challenges, and don't even get me started on his miss.

was it really bad, just looked like a tight angle from my view, so i wasn't arsed

Hmmm, I don't understand why he side footed it when he could have just slammed it home. It's not like it was on his weak foot. It's one of them, that because of where he aimed for, had it gone in it would have been classed as a quality placed goal. But as it stands it was a poor weak effort.

I've been impressed with Carney from what I have seen, so don't think I'm bad mouthing him, it's just it was my opinion he played awful against Stoke.

He has definately been hit and miss so far but i have seen enough promise for him to keep his place. Let us not forget that he is an overseas player still adapting to the English game, people are too quick to dismiss players that don't make an immidiate impact and often those players go on to do really well elsewhere when given time to establish themselves.

I remember that Bergkamp and Pires were both had disappointing starts when they joined Arsenal and look what happened there. Same goes for players like Krankjaer and Benjani at pompy and even the greats like Ronaldo, Henry and Cantona took a while to settle.

Obviously i don't expect Carney to reach the dizzy heights of some of the stars i have mentioned but my point is that it can take a while for overseas players to find their feet over here.

Just to clarify, I'm not saying for one moment we should drop him, just think he had a shocker against Stoke.

Perhaps this is the wrong kind of game we should be playing him in.

My post wasn't aimed at you Robbie, i actually thought that carney was avergare at best against Stoke and i have been surprised at some of the glowing reports that others have shared with me.

I was basically saying that while i am not yet convinved that he will be a success; i hope he is given the chance to adapt before an ultimate decision is made.

I suppose i am alluding to the sales of players like Nade and Fathi before they were given a fair crack of the whip.

I agree with the thread title ... Hes shown creativity even if hes not the most physical player ... Didnt catch the Stoke game so cant conclude but I get the impression he was quite lack lustre ... As for the miss - Needed to be more composed

he was my contender for the ,an of the match, he certainly caused problems, but i cant fault bardsley for his defence, webber for his attack and defence, bennet for his awesome keepin..its hard to chose, but he was in my list

Well Carney should be playing for Australia tomorrow against Nigeria. Giving his recent performances in the Green and Gold i would imagine that he will start but since we have a techniqual director as our coach anything could happen.
