As an addendum to my tourist board rant above ...

The one by the red roof is where we always stay...

I won't call it paradise because, as Don Henley and the late great Glenn Frey might say - call some place paradise ...

By the way, the island in the foreground is Taransay, where the BBC programme Castaway was filmed.

But does it have Wifi?

I agree with you re Shetland. I was there 2 years ago and thought the coastal scenery was spectacular. I'm going to Lewis and Harris so I'm hoping to have the same opinion as you. Not on a bike with a tent though!
I've not been to Shetland or Orkney, but it does look nice I agree. Same as you though, if I do go it won't be on a bike with a tent. I like my luxuries too much! I'd probably do it on a pogo stick with a bin liner.

The cottage does - and the internet access is very strong on the island - one of those community satellite internet set ups.

Phone signal can be dodgy in a lot of places, but improving over the years.
I remember about 25 years ago my kids going to the top of the hill and standing on a sheep pen wall overlooking the sea with their arms in the air, trying to send texts back to their mates! Better than that now though!

Ruined it for me now! Is nowhere safe from t'interweb?

To see as many ancient sites as possible. I'm a bit of an archaeology freak. :D
There's one in S6 that needs investigating....on many levels....some say it belongs to a long lost ancient tribe of the "bouncy bouncy mahooofsies".
All of a sudden it dissapeared....no one can work out why...your next assignment KN.

If you enjoy hills, beaches, swimming in crystal clear ice-cold sea and a bit of rain you’ll fall in love with Harris - we also know people who have a wet holiday and will never go back!

Enjoy - Harris is True Magic

Thanks for all the information. I'm not so keen on the swimming, but walking and wildlife will occupy most of our time there. As for wet weather, having lived in Orkney, I am fully prepared for the possibility of horizontal rain ;)
