Have we been too overconfident?

Well I have, and now I think we should forget about promotion now, I don't think we'll finish higher than 20th. :(

 Dont give up hope yet! We are only 4 games in so far, I think they will need a bit longer yet to settle, new manager / players etc.

Come Christmas I have every confidence (or blind faith??) of a top 6 place. ;)

need to be in top half by christamas, if not new manager please who can bring players in in january.

I think we have been massively over confident considering the huge changes that have taken place since our relegation.

It is always tough to bounce back from relegation but the manner in which we were relegated made it all the more likely that our 'hangover' would be substancial this season.

Add in the introduction of a new managerial team following a period of stability spanning 7 + years and the signs should have been there for all to see.

Whilst many draw comparisons to Sunderland last season, we seem to forget about the significant number of teams relegated from the premiership that have lapsed into championship under-achievement for many years.

I haven't seen enough this season to suggest that promotion via the top two places or the play-offs is on the cards; the only positive so far for me has been that James Beatie looks to be different class.

I'm fed up.

jonny you soft twat, stevie wonder could manage us and we wouldnt finish 20th mind you he isnt is he bryan fucking robson is,but still were not gonna finish 20th

If he had played 42 games and we were near the bottom then it would be a failure but its not

42 GAMES TO GO
42 Wins. happy days

How do you work that out based on a handfull of games?

It was never going to be an easy season, anyone would think you thought we had a devine right to win every week.

I expected Scunny to be a difficult game, but thought we'd have the quality to do something. We aren't just going to steamroller every team we play, nor are teams just going to lay down and let us win.

4 games in and we get booing after a few mins, its pathetic and only going to make individuals performances worse.

The team themselves seem to be far to overconfident. To me they look like they think they have won every game before it's kicked off.

They need a kick up the chuffing arse.

cast your minds back to febuary/march of promotion season with everyone getting agitated and booing because result weren't coming, when we got behind the team properly the results came good again - thats what we need, not that complete arse gravy that opened this thread! we can't expect to win every game in a league that is undoubtedly getting stronger every season, we will get better but we need to get back behind the mighty blades........and maybe a new defender lol :)

UTB

PS.....it really could be worse.....lets all laugh at wednesdays....

I agree. The thing is, people see the name 'Scunthorpe United' and confuse it with 'Cannon Fodder'.

Let's be fair about it, they won their Division fair and square, and deserve their place where we are; just as we do for having come back down.

Had we been playing the scabs (they don't even deserve a capital letter), would people be baying the way they have been this evening? I doubt it.

At the start of the season, I've no doubt many people looked at the rixture list for "easy wins" like Scunny. The past two league games I thought would be a pasting from West Brom, and a victory over Scunny, for three points out of six. We got them, just not the way I anticipated, so I don't think all is lost by any means.

I don't expect any team to come to bramall lane and paste us, a win against West Brom was exatcly what i expected.

Yesterday i expected us to win but i knew it would be a battle and to go down without a fight is the reason that i'm so annoyed.

I think that poeple roll out the cliches of football too often: "We thought we only had to turn up, we've no divine right to win games, etc"

The fact is that we are not playing well and we lost to inferior opposition; i doubt it will be the last time that happens this season.

Play Offs is the best im hoping for now.

Although look at Sunderland last season at the bottom for a while and finished champions.

Anything can happen.

Patience, my fellow blades. It will take time to get the players from being in a mindset of Warnock to ones who play passing football. Of course everyone is disappointed about yesterday, but be fair here, it was set up for us to lose yesterday.

Everyone says we have the same midfield that did it before so we should be fine. Last time in the Championship we had a kid called Jags and until he is replaced in midfield we will be in trouble. We have some hope when Carney and Hendrie are available, but till then??????????
