The season finishes next Saturday for me. The players yesterday were playing like it'd already finished.

The marketing department are going to have to work hard to sell the "excitement" of the play offs to us.

They're going to need a fucking miracle to sell it to me, or rather to my wife. Mrs SV will not take the idea of our weekend away in Leyburn finishing early so I can go and spunk £150+ away watching United be shit at Wembley again in any way shape or form.

So I will not be going if we manage to fluke our way to the final. I will go to the semi at the Lane, but that's all.

What made me laugh yesterday was all those who'd not travelled talking about how they'd be at Wembley regardless and how Morgs would sort it.

Due to finances (I think my Wife and I are classed as the 'squeezed' middle) away games have been off the menu for me this season. My Wife bought me a season ticket last week due to her having a decent month on her bonus. So as per Linz I won't be going to any games after next Saturday, I doubt I would if I could afford it!

There was only 21,183 at the Lane against Stevenage and I can't see it being higher than that this season.

I knew it was around there. We had 23k recently, I think there's an appetite. I know fans are annoyed and may have other plans, but plans sometimes change when a trip to see your team lift a trophy at Wembley is on offer.

We've travelled in our thousands to see non-games this season, I think the pull of a final at Wembley will be too strong for most, if not all.

Does a relegation season definitely mean the rebuilding process has to stop? How could we approach a season which was likely to end in failure in a way that would benefit the club in the longer term?

We have to get the extra turnover from the Championship if at all possible, don't we? With the likely make up of that section next season, you'd have to think we could average 22k and the extra TV money would make a huge difference.

The expectations of the fans would be crucial - would people accept certain relegation if they could see a bigger plan?

Forget Pommpey's match report, that is possibly the most heart-wrenching post I have ever seen on here - the fact we would have to see a season in the Championship as a nailed-on relegation season to use it to build to come back again in 2 years time. We used to say that about the PL didn't we?

Think the alternative would be to take the weds approach of huge amounts of loans, a fairly scattergun approach to permanent transfers and hope to stay up before almost starting from scratch again the season after. That's what we've been doing recently though and it either doesn't work or it hasn't for us.

The lack of long term strategy have been mentioned a few times on here. Judging by the replies, most fans aren't bothered about it. A lot of people constantly applaud the signings of 30+ year olds, as long as they've played for big clubs before.

Post Warnock, our managers have been too scared, uninterested in, or just unable to build a developing side. The expectation of immediate success is probably the main reason and I doubt that would change if we somehow got promotion this year.

In response to the original thread, I'm completely unenthused by the thought of another play-off. I'll watch it on Sky and likely drink copious amounts to keep it interesting, but will not be spending my money on travel and tickets.

I didn't go to Portsmouth yesterday, in fact I haven't been to an away game all season, but Linz I'm not one of those you referred to who will "definitely be at Wembley"! I have just renewed my season ticket, so would prefer my investment to be in watching Championship football, but Preston will definitely be the last game I attend this season.

I said I wouldn't go to Wembley last time, but deep down knew I would if we got there. This time I'm not even bothering with the semis. I am certain of this.

The end to our season has been catastrophic, barring a miracle. Our players haven't under performed, they just aren't very good, and no amount of "passion" or "running through brick walls" will make them good enough in my opinion, with the exception of one or two. For me, this makes the decision to get rid of a manager, who had made us so hard to beat, with so few games left absolutely ridiculous in my eyes. Especially when you replace him with somebody of Morgan's "experience".

The football was pretty dull, but being so successful away from home meant we had a chance to scrape our way up. Why we couldn't just wait until the end of the season, I'll never understand, but hey, the timing of managerial sackings has never been Mr. McCabe's strong point, has it?

The way I see it is, if we win, and I know it's a bit early on a Sunday morning to have drunk enough to suggest something so outlandish, then I'll be happy because of that, but if we lose, as expected, I'll have saved myself a good couple of hundred quid and a shit fucking long journey home.

In answer to the OP, it's funny as I was in my local yesterday p.m. watching results come in on Sky (both my beloved teams were miles away....losing ), and a bunch of Bantams came in after securing their PO place - smiling, buzzing, well chuffed, whatever you wanna call it, they were happy and VERY optimistic...

Oddly, I felt the exact opposite and told em so, which they couldn't really get their heads round (well, they are City fans after all). I just told em it's the Blades way and continued to drown me sorrows...
