I said at the time we only signed him out of desperation and we got him cos nobody else wanted him. I don't like being right, just wish we had used the fecking wages on someone who wasn't totally clapped out and just wanting a payday.

A mate of mine (I know) was talking to Jamie Hoyland during the Wilson era, and he insisted that Stephenson was responsible for transfers and Wilson would have "little say".

I'm guessing Lee Carsley supplied the connection. I suppose it is academic now, but whoever has been ultimately responsible for recruitment over the last 3 years has done a terrible job, hopefully the Clough brothers now have more autonomy in this area now.

I'm not sure this is recognised by the club, though you're right. There was an article on the main site not long ago, lauding Stephenson for the work he does, and Westlake was provided as an example of this working!

Agree PeteBlade, a sorry day when King was considered the answer. He lived on past 'glories', sold everyone a false hope, and took a good wage in return, so another fibbing scam artist that left a stain on SUFC. Never mind mate, not Nigel's fault, and you can bet he'll be looking at a player's character as well as their talent when he signs them. Hi PeteBlade, hope so too. I noted that Nigel said we'd only get loans in January, and that the serious wheeling and dealing would happen in the summer. I can see that picking up a decent forward at this time of year might be difficult, but I guess we just have to rely on Cloughie's judgement to make sure we retain our place in this division. For what it's worth, we'll need wholesale surgery during the summer if we're to make a concerted effort for promotion next season. Can't see much happening if we keep the bulk of this team over the next 12 months, but again, NC needs room to do his job and I hope we can bring in far better talent than we currently have.
