Hartlepool boss Mick Wadwoirth has expressed his anger at Hartlepool being handed away games for both their first and last fixture , he says its only fair that you should have at least one of these fixtures at home .

Someone should show him our fixtures for the past 3 seasons

Agree. Surely someone from our club should be having words too.

Isn't this Utd's doing tho?

I've read on BM that we request to play away on St. Leger day and consequently, this automatically throws up the scenario of first and last games being both away from home.

I don't know like, but if that is absolutely correct but could be the answer

"It's United who in the past few seasons have requested an away fixture on the day of the St Leger (and I'm still not actually sure why). Because of this, to fit in with the fixture schedule, it means we end up playing away on the first and last days.

So no, it's not a coincidence. It's down to SUFC."

I think the St Leger should request to be held when United aren't at home. Bah.

:)

I'm sorry that must be bollocks.

The logical extension of that is that, for United, there are only 2 scenarios:

Away on St Ledger Day = 1st and last games Away
Home on St Ledger Day = 1st and last games at Home

to be fair though we did have a couple of seasons on the bounce with home on 1st and last games 05/06 (leicester & palace) 06/07 (liverpool & wigan) then opened at home against colchester 07/08.

agree its about time that happened again but personally im happy that 2 of our first 3 league games are at home. a draw at oldham and 4/6 points from brentford/walsall could be the start we badly need if we're to pick up some momentum. compare this to preston who are 'lucky' enough to have a home game 1st v colchester but then tricky away games at scunny and chesterfield.

I'd rather open with our three.

Doesn't Wadsworth realise it clashes with a race meeting at Sedgefield?

it is because we mirror donny rovers fixture list and they are away on st ledger day.. apparently:fatbastard:

From what I read last, this is correct.
You get paired with a team, ours is Donny.

However, it doesn't explain the away game for both first and last of the season

Well if someone at SUFC is responsible for this continually requesting away for the first and resulting last game he/she should be sacked.
With SUFC on a cut at all costs these bumper away fixtures which could mean 6 very difficult points to gain on the road .
Loss of home revenue and possible promotion or relegation points played in front of bumper away crowds.
It just doesn't make sense that the club would want to lose two bumper crowds and finish away from home when on the last day 1 point can mean so much.

The question was asked at the AGM the year before last. I don't recall exactly what the response was, but I think there was some acknowledgment that there was some truth in it. Sorry I can't be certain or clearer.

A mate of mine e-mailed the FA about our first and last day fixtures, and apparently wendy always ask to be away when the anniversary of the Hillsboro disaster comes around, which generally gives them the last day at home. Dont know what the excuse is for the opening day fixtures are though! So much for random computer selections.

They don't appear to be paying much attention then, seeing as these are the Wednesday fixtures from the last few seasons closest to the anniversary of the disaster:

2006 - H v Norwich on Sat 15th
2007 - A v WBA on Fri 13th
2008 - H v Plymouth on Mon 14th
2009 - A v QPR on Mon 13th
2010 - H v United on Sun 18th
2011 - H v Hartlepool on Sat 16th

Unless United only started requesting this in 2008 this must be bollocks as we played at home when the St Leger was run in 2006 and 2007.
