One of my work colleges is a die hard Geordie fan, everybody has a cross to bear, &, he's adamant that Harry & George have signed a pre-contracts to join them in the summer. Apparently its come from a reliable source that works at NUFC. I thought a pre-contract was only available to any player that's out of contract in the summer. Has anybody else heard this & is that right regarding pre-contracts

I'd "lurk" a bit if I you were you and get used to the site before deciding what to do. You'll get used to the occasional acerbic comment and get to know the humour and irony (ok and sarcasm) that abounds!

You and I must be a similar age as I started watching SUFC in 1959 when I was 9.

Personally wouldn't care about HM being moved on if Newcastle personally.
Long would be at least 2-3 season too early, and no top division side is going to move for a rookie keeper at the moment still unproven even at our level.

HM's reading of the game has improved recently, and he has good games however I don't think he's a going to be a top player. If we've pulled the wool over their eyes and other teams with deep pockets think he's the next big thing and want to make £3-4 Million bids, we should take advantage of their stupidity. Bring these kids through is all well and good, but the skill is in knowing what each is worth and how far they can go. Selling someone who isn't top draw, at the right time, allowing you to keep others is all part of the game.
He just ain't that good, and I think TK is a better prospect, technically superior, quicker, better reader of the game.

Disagree massively with that , Maguire will go on to be a top top player ,for a lad of his age to have played so many games at centre half with average team mates and poor goalkeepers behind him ,is testament to both his abilityand his temperament. How you cant rate him is beyond me.

I think Harry reads the game very well defensively and his distribution is excellent. But for me it's his lack of pace which will hold him back, perhaps also his size, seems like he could be a little less tank and more athletic, but he does alright, so cant complain too much there.

However, the biggest issue I have is his concentration and decision making, he seems to often switch off, but recovers well. John terry has allowed us to think this is ok, but it's not. His decision making, for me, particularly in his distribution is often ignored because he launches a 40yd ball into feet. But for me, that shouldn't be his option every time. He should look elsewhere. We seem to play better when he gives it simple to KMac, or to the wings.

Finally it's worth a comment, not a major concern, but discipline is questionable. He needs to rise above it.

I wouldn't want to sell him, but if the right offer came in which would allow him to progress and have a chance of the big time I wouldn't hold him back. He's here until the end of the season and injury free hopefully! He's a big part of the promotion push

Maguire is a good League 1 defender - at times very good but needs to improve his consistency, even at this level never mind the Premiership. Personally I think Collins has been our best defender over the last 18 months.

Long was excellent at youth level but has struggled in the first team. He's still young so hopefully will improve.

I'd be amazed if either were in the Premiership next season.

I think Maguire is too slow / immobile to make it at the top. I agree with FB. He'll be a good championship player, but I doubt any higher. I'll be very happy to be proved wrong.

Before signing off completely I would like to explain why I got riled by your comments. Last year I lost a very close friend in a road accident. He was also a life long blade of the same age as me. Over the years we travelled all over supporting the lads. Plenty of laughs & few scraps. I opened a Facebook page and people were putting goods comments about him. I dropped the bollock by ending mine with "once a blade always a blade" some bastard must have seen that & started posting all sort of trash. That is called Trolling. In the end his was wife was getting extremely upset so I had to contact Facebook & had the page removed. If you read the papers this Trolling is happening all the time. That's why I hate being called a Troll.
In answer to where the rumour started all I have been told that source works in the ground at NUFC.
