Well, that's August out of the way and nobody can really complain about how it's all gone. However...

This is the bare minimum I expected from DW and this division. We'll know a lot more by the end of October when we'll have actually played teams who will be 'there or thereabouts' in May - Charlton, MK, Hudders and - with their fucking luck - Wendy.

The teams we've played so far are nothing. I expect us to do to this division what Newcastle did to the Championship - boss it. So far, the signs aren't good. 2 goals will be enough to see off the majority of teams in Div. 3 but, as we saw again today, it only needs a fluke and 2 points are gone, as at Tranmere.

We need another striker. Cressy can't be expected to do it all, Porter is God-awful, Boggy is lazy and Slew is just too raw. One thing DW could do is try to get Ched's 'head' right while we wait for the trial (which could be months off, and he's going nowhere). Surely he would make hay in this pub league?

Yeah good so far. Can't complain, though haven't seen us play yet myself - next weekend will be my first game of the season, so I'm NOW really looking forward to it. Taken me a long time to get up for the season.

Unbeaten, couldn't ask for more, although as grafikhaus says, it seems like we need a striker which the oppo will be scared to play against, not work horses, a proper tall, strong, quick lad. Not easy to find but we need him all the same

Five games unbeaten, three clean sheets, looks easy doesn't it? However the bigger teams in the league are waiting for us over the next 8 or 9 games. This will be the stern test and we can't really say that we're on a promotion run until we have these out of the way and are still top two or three. (Its better than we all feared anyway, but now we are close to the top I guess we are all revising our expectations upwards)

We have settled into a formation, we're playing quite well for long periods of the games, and players who didn't do it last season are giving much better accounts of themselves (Cressy, Collins, even Simmo). But I have this nagging doubt that we are still a bit fragile and lacking depth in a few key places. The question now is are the other teams good enough to exploit that. The Catch 22 is that to give us the depth and bolster our chances with new signings will inevitably see Monty or Quinn go by Wednesday (perhaps, just perhaps Ched, if his case is thrown out on Tuesday). Will it be the baby going out with the bathwater, or killing the favourite son to let the rest of the family survive?

In answer to the OP. Happy but not content. Much work to do still...

Today was my first game of the season, and although it has been a good start I think it could go either way. I think we look nervous at the back at times, after Monty went off today we lost it in the midfield and we looked vulnerable there after. Up top we haven't got a poacher, a Peschisolido type player, someone to worry defences and play on the defensive line looking to run onto a loose ball. Slew does a lot of running, but at times it is pointless and as pointed out above Cresswell won't be able to keep up this form all season and Porter looks lacking fitness. I really hope McCabe lets Danny sign some reinforcements before Wednesday. We need cover at the back and a poacher up front.

Still hopeful we can carry this form on, but it's going to be a tough ask!

Happy so far, 13 from 15 is great and far more than I expected. However I think the next months matches are going to be very tough and we have a lot of work to do if we want a similar record this time in 31 days time. Yeovil could easily have come away with a point today-we never killed them off, and we created very little-it was like the first half v Walsall but for the whole game. Still, a wins a win, think we may have a bit of a reality check in September though.

some people are hard to please-13 from 15.
a fantastic start playing a new system and its working-bring on the so called `bigger teams`-bigger teams than us in this division?fuck off-they will be shitting themselves playing us-let the good times roll-we are the biggest team in this division-no fear blades.
no fear.
FUCK EM.........

I'm more than pleased with our start, I just think we need to step up a gear next month.

when you review August sheffield united‎ have played 5 matches & sheffield united‎ has won 4 & drawn 1, & we are joint top it just 2 goals stopping us but really should have got 5 wins in 5 & sheffield united‎ have only played well in 2 1/2 league games so we know we can play better. it just makes me wonder why southampton, wednesday & leeds have made such a dogs dinner of league 1 as it seems like a cake walk for blades.

also im right in thinking that the last time sheffield united‎ topped a league table was during the liverpool match in 2006

but also i wont get carried away until october finished as i would be delious if we were top by october 31 & still in JPT

I want us to win the euro cup. I want us to be prem champs but we got relegated. in fact i wanted us to at least score at wembley when we were last there....... were league 1. Like it or not. Had to many managers and got fooked financially. Lets face it things are pretty grim............................... But were unbeaten in 5 joint top and we jave a a manager thats seen this division and above before. From all accounts were playing better football than in the last 5 years and the piggies are looking up at us still. GREAT START BRING EM ON AND UTB.

Nice to see your avatar has changed Soton.
Good to see you yesterday with Foxy. Linz & keenzy
Poor match but another 3 points in the bag.
We lost midfield after Monty was stretchered off.
McA didnt get hold of it but its worrying that we seem to be taking the foot off the gas once we get in front.
Flynn looks too lightweight
Maguire looked very solid, Collins was very steady, Quinn best player on the park
