When BBD came on, Hamer went central didn't he? I think we've seen some green shoots RE having Hamer central recently

Didn’t Hamer player centrally against Norwich, with McCallum on the left wing and O’Hare move from his normal central position to being out on the right wing.

When that team was picked I thought, it’s the 1st time Wilder is playing Hamer centrally, probably in preparation of when BBD joins.

Thought Hamer had a really good game against Norwich but that’s mainly because being played centrally he was much more involved than usual.

Not being disrespectful but Hamer is left sided as he has been played there by Wilder who has this daft idea of playing people on the wrong side so that they can come inside and shoot.
Hamer offers so much more in a central position. Hopefully with BBD going left Hamer will revert to a central role where he offers so much more

And therein lies the problem of us constantly recycling the ball. There is nobody in that line up out wide who can go past a man so they all pass it sideways or backwards.

Neither BBD or OHare have the pace or ability to skin a full back and play a ball in to Cannon. I'm not at all sure what BBDs actually position is, he looks more like an old fashioned CF to me, he's certainly not a wide player but that's where Wilder plays him.

It wasn't a coincidence that we looked our most dangerous going forward when Rak Sakyi was flying. If we r going to play Souza and Choudury in the middle we need pace and flair outside and I think getting RS back to his early season form could be a game changer for us.

Do you know how daft it sounds to call inverted wingers daft and to suggest it's some strange idea Wilder has come up with?

Half the people on this forum must not watch any other football besides United whilst ignoring our opposition. Surprised we're not having, "what's Wilder doing with this one striker up front thing?"

The daft thing is though, most wingers play on the side of their weaker foot, yeah so they can cut inside, but that also makes them very adaptable. Inverted wingers don't need to inverted all the time, swap them over every 20min. Keep the opposition guessing.

Part of me agrees with this. And presumably he will now be shifted inside if Diaz is deemed match-fit to start.

At the same time, though, Hamer currently being joint top scorer with 6, and joint top assister with 5, does suggest we have actually got a fair amount out of him.

Of course they don't need to be inverted all the time, but most of them are for most clubs under most managers. It's not some daft woke conspiracy Wilder has bought into or constructed himself.

Rak-Sayki came through Palace as an inverted winger, went on loan to Charlton in league one and played exclusively as an inverted winger, went back to Palace and played in their senior team as an inverted winger, but our fans are baffled why he's not playing on the left and blaming Wilder! 🤣

BBD? Inverted for Blackburn, inverted for Southampton, inverted for us. We were after Mikey Johnston in the summer, inverted for Celtic, inverted for West Brom. Linked with Liam Millar, inverted for Preston, inverted for Hull. Etc.

Things changed in our favour when Leicester realised we were interested in Charles. Having that public interest in another player has played into our hands and Leicester will have been concerned that the deal was going south since we looked elsewhere...

The sad part about this is that we've missed several weeks bringing Choudhury up to fitness.

I wasn't moaning at Wilder. He's brought these players in (as he likes to say) "position specific".
I think in a perfect world Wilder wants two Egans in the back 4, and 2 Baldocks on the left and right. I think what Burrows offers is a bit of a bonus. Then, he'd be fine with two holding midfielders. 2 BBD type inverted wingers, a magician in-between them both, and a target man.
Playing chalk on their boots wingers (when your two midfielders are deep) isolates your striker and leaves your Hamer/O'hare player being over run or forced backwards. But, if we move to 442, or Choudhury/Vini gets replaced by a ball carrying CM then I'd like to see our wingers get wider. *That said, not only are our wingers already inverted ones by design, other than Moore our strikers are also winger type front men as well.

Being on the bench for a Prem side is a different type of fitness to missing out through injury.
You'll be rusty (like BBD was) but when tenacity is your style and you've trained week in and week out since the start of the season, he'll only take 90min or 2 to get upto speed.

Yeah sure, he'd be up to match speed quickly, but as we know, bringing players in and pushing them into sat / tues 90 mins then its the intensity anmd recovery which will be the issue potentionally, this has impacted Tom Davies and Souza
 
Must be the ultimate “played well against us so sign him up” pick. FWIW think he’ll slot into this side very well
