Meanwhile while we are pass, pass, pass opposition have reversed 3 double decker busses into defensive position. Then they shout ”READY” and United can start passing to forwards

This is so frustrating to watch. We constantly allow the opposition to regroup and organise themselves making our job 10x harder.

We could attack quickly (without hitting it down the feckin channels) and have a group of dangerous attacking players going at 4-5 defenders/midfielders, or turn back, play a few slow passes, and then go against 10 players behind the ball.

While other teams will occasionally stick 4 or 5 goals past poor opposition we'll focus on getting 1 or 2 and being solid. This becomes a huge problem when we're not solid as we'll always struggle to outscore other teams with these tactics.

I agree, and having watched a few Leeds and Burnley games, the speed that they also are back defending when possession is turned over is incredible.

Contrast that with our players trotting back we lose the ball and its very different.

Hopefully Souza and Choudhery can change that.

Yep CW has a good record of signing ball carriers. Unfortunately he has an even better record of 'coaching' it out of them.

O'Hare is a great example

So full of flair and creativity at Coventry, then comes here and immediately morphs into a workhorse number 10 who offers minimal attacking threat

We have ball carriers in Hamer, O'Hare, Brooks, Rak-Sakyi and BBD, but Wilder's "tactics" don't allow it as we play, pass, pass, sideways pass, back pass, didn't we keep possession well boring ineffective football that suffocates any creativity that these players have and make us predictable and easy to defend against.

have to say i agree with everything youve said in that post i was a massive fan of wilder first time round and wasnt against him totally when he came back but for me hes styfling our more creative players with these negative tactics and its starting to concern me just dont like the type of football we are playing just now for a start we need new tactics where we can get 2 strikers up front weve addressed the lack of strikers situation now and got 4 strikers who will get goals in this league play 2 up top with hamer in behind and souza and choudray as the midfield pivots utb ftp

have to say ive been totally underwelmed with o'hare how hes kept his place week in week out is beyond me

Always impressed by people's ability to separate out exactly what drives what happens during a game in terms of whether it's due to instructions from the manager versus the decisions the players are making versus the circumstances of the game.

For what it's worth, during the Cup game v Cardiff when you could hear every word, Wilder was screaming at the players to "fucking pass it fucking forwards".

It's for his work rate and defensive contributions. Which is the most important thing for a Chris Wilder number 10

When did Wilder take this turn? It was never this defensive in his first spell, even after the 3-3 at Villa which seemed to be the catalyst for a change in approach

Souza and Choudhury would work very well together with Hamer or Davies as the ball carrier in front of them.

Ultimately we need options. Souza, Choudhury, Hamer, Davies, Peck, O'Hare and Shacks gives us plenty of combinations for a midfield pairing or trio.

Who knows. I’m certainly no happy clapper or a big CW fan after his previous departure. However we’ve certainly done well after last season.

Yes , but you see , that winger was probably on his natural flank , not stubbornly inverted by CW coz he's swallowed the "modern game" textbook.
It's like Alan Woodward has been erased from our history along with all his successors on our RW.

It's these last 3 games where we've really needed the squad depth we haven't had all season, as well as 1 or 2 similar runs of games earlier in the season.

In 6 days we've played pretty much the same starting 11 and subs for each game, with a few exceptions as we haven't had the depth to give certain players (like Davies and Peck) a much needed rest.

If we had the squad depth that we will have post JTW (Cannon, BBD, Choudhury, JJK, new CB) we would have been able to manage these last 3 games a lot easier and probably would have played better in the 1st half against Swansea and the game against Hull, as we wouldn't have been forced to play Burrows at CM and an out of form Gilchrist continuing to start.

I wonder if that's what delayed the deal earlier, I can imagine Leicester who need money would've wanted an obligation (Southampton were said to have wanted the same for BBD) whereas we just wanted the option.
