Outgoing? Hamer

Please can we stop with this nonsense about Burrows replacing Hamer on the left wing. Burrows never has been and never will be a left winger. It’s a completely different position from left back.
Could be wrong but I'm sure I read on here that Peterborough used to play him more as a winger than a fullback.

I do worry about where out creation will come from when Gus goes but I just looked back at what I believe must will percieve was our "purple patch" last season, which was this block of 10 games....

Do you know how many of these games Gus started? The answer is 4 games and 2 of them are the 2 defeats at WBA and Wrexham.

Food for thought!
Not exactly murderers row of opponents there....

He did play there a few times and in cm for Peterborough

He might not be the next Giggs but no reason he can’t play there

I looked at his peterboro starts beginning of last season and vast majority of his games were at left back in a 4. When they played 3 at back he played central midfield more often than left Wing back. Don’t recall any as a left winger

I would love for us to have two wings with tricky wingers instead of Hamer who is undoubtedly talented but not a pacey winger. We are, according to Wilder, already in for a Hamer back up so if he does go that's two wide men needed

I really hope he stays and will be sad to see him go, the lad is infectious to have around the place, has star quality and also brings a bit of needle to his game. But I suspect that this only a matter of time now, sadly

TC Sabella Ndiaye Hamer you say they come and go but elite get you off your seats that’s 4 in 50 years. Sod that I say keep him. 5 million is nowt McGuiness was 4 and he’s dogshit.
If he was elite pal, he would not have stayed with us. He's good but not elite. No way, the facts back that up I'm afraid. UTB.

Hamer was way below standards last year and still had the most assists in the division. He'd be a huge loss, but I'm not sure what the ambition is for this season.

If the reality is, we're not going to be anywhere near it (which is what you'd expect given the budget constraints), then maybe it's best to cash in and invest in a younger prospect with more resale value on a longer contract.

£8m would be a reasonable figure for him in the circumstances.

I agree with the logic, 8m would be a good deal imo, can't help but feel 5m would be more likely given contract length

His last season at P'Boro, he was almost exclusively played at LB. But prior to that season, he was all over the place. LW, RW, AM, CM. He's got playing time in all of those positions.

We obviously signed him as a full back, but his crossing ability is such that combined with his defensive weaknesses, he could be played further forward and directed to play crosses into the box.

That may well not be a desired plan for CW, but it's still an option we have.

Like people have said, I don't see the point of letting him go for 5-6mil. Should be talking 10mil to even entertain.

I remember seeing he's happy to see his contract out, maybe even extend as his son has really settled into his school. That may well be complete bollocks, but we know he won't force a move.

Only thing that makes me wonder is it could be his last chance to get that premier league taste. I wouldn't have been surprised if he did leave but I thought it would be back in his homeland.

He's been really good for us and is the one

10 million!!
Last year of his deal I think 3.5 - 5 mill is the most we could hope for in the real world 😊

United scored 40 goals in the 2,500 minutes Hamer played last season. He scored or assisted 17 of them
Can't deny he's our most creative player . However even if we keep him , in a years time we'll most likely still be in championship and have to replace him without the £5m or so from a transfer .

He's a £15m player. You can't replace him with that anyway. Just keep him and hope lots of things fall your way.

Lose him and underestimate just how influential him and Brooks were in creating chances and space for others last season, and 40 or less goals scored might be a realstic outcome

Which also means that with Hamer on the pitch we scored every 62.5 minutes. Without him, we scored every 63.2 minutes.

Could it be that when he’s playing, we’re overly reliant on him?

Also; we signed him from Coventry when he had 1 year left on his contract. That shouldn’t be used as an excuse to accept less than he’s worth (c£8-10m plus add ons).

Certainly could be. But now that Brooks is gone as well, it's difficult to see who opposition teams would really worry about, or bother sending multiple defenders to cover.

Exactly. It's a misleading stat when you remove the impact of the Brooks/Seriki double act.

If/when we replace him perhaps we find someone who not only creates, even if not at that number, but stops our lbs being so exposed too? This idea that he's irreplaceable isn't true as shown by how we did in games without him BUT it has to be done well.
