Agreed, its without doubt a 'football downgrade'. Whether it makes sense financially or not is dependent on the fee but we lose our most talented footballer and we are bringing in the likes of Jairo and possibly Phillips amd or BBD as midfield replacements

What do we got to a match to watch? I go to support the team but also see a bit of exciting football and Hamer is up there with the likes of TC, Alex Sabella, Glynn Hodges, Ndiaye and David Brookes at getting me out of my seat. So whatever the reason there cant be one Blade who wouldn't be saddened if this goes through....especially after losing our other player who can beat a man to Norwich.
 



If Gus goes i question where's the creatvity is coming from.
I doubt we find a replacement who costs us the same as we sell Gus for,who can provide similar goals and assists.
Against the Millers he put Chong in and created 3 more good chances in the first half.
Keep him and tell Cov to do one,and let him run his contract down.

Get that, I really do. But because we can never appear to get the rest of the line up right we end up shoe-horning those luxury players in and fucking up the balance of the team.

Don't get me wrong, I love Gus and dearly want him to stay but since he signed we have played him for his, "moment of brilliance" at the expense of others and team balance.

Loads of us on here have been crying out to see Gus in the middle, pinging pinpoint passes to the flanks and arriving light in the box but since he signed, no Manager has really known what to do with him.

Square fucking pegs, square fucking holes......basics....

Say the money is right as Hamer will be on a fair whack too he has to go as we don't have the financial clout we once did. One option would be to play O'Hare in behind Bamford and Cannon with Donovan/Chong on the RW and on the left you could even have Burrows/One, Burrows has shown going forwards he has got assists and goals in him and with McCallum at LB that would make the defence more solid.

TC Sabella Ndiaye Hamer you say they come and go but elite get you off your seats that’s 4 in 50 years. Sod that I say keep him. 5 million is nowt McGuiness was 4 and he’s dogshit.

Any team that replaces Hamer on the pitch with Cannon on the pitch is much, much, much worse

The responsibility should be spread across the team, rather than having us depend almost exclusively on a single player to generate all of our offensive output.

Having a star player lead the charge going forward can work (see Iliman for a recent example that worked for us), but it's not the only path to success.

If Hamer does leave as is being suggested at present, we need to course-correct for that loss, and set up as a side where goals, and (more importantly in Hamer's case) assists are more evenly spread across the side. Players such as Chong, who will be a likely candidate for a starting berth in a wide position, will need to raise their game from a creative standpoint. More importantly, the central midfielders absolutely need to do more on this front. Combined, Peck, K. Phillips, Soumaré, T. Davies, Riedewald, Arblaster, Matos and Rothwell produced 7 assists in the league, barely half of what Hamer achieved on his own. Granted, some of that is due to the roles they are expected to play, but you look back to the assist Peck produced for BBD in the 24/25 season (vs Middlesbrough I think?), as an example of how those players can contribute more than they did last season.

It takes more than one player to make a team.
 
I like Hamer but if he goes for a few million and his wages go with him then fair enough.

He's not fit enough , has poor discipline , expensive to keep and wont sign a new contract

Lovely footballer but looking after his own intrests no probs with that but so should the club.

Always expected him and Peck to go this summer and still do.
 
I expect money will talk say Coventry offer him 50-60pw for a 2 year deal. Adds to financial security.

agree with all of that if hamer wont sign a new contract under our terms let him go he obviously wants to go back to coventry only thing i would say is 5m is not enough even in his last year i think 10m would be nearer the mark

His value is always going to be debatable.
Turning down £5m and keeping him effectively costs the club £6.5m for one year.

You have to ask if he's worth keeping.

Hamer absolutely hates playing with his back to goal and being harried by the opposition up his arse, that is why he naturally drifts out wide or comes deep to take the ball of the CB's toes so that when he receives the ball he knows all the play is in front of him. The only way Hamer can play in the middle is in a deep lying position and then he's shit at defending when needed.

Can’t argue with that but it depends on the formation we are looking at, if 1 or 2 up front. I think Burrows can replace Hamer on the left and have a few that can replace the AM role, Cannon can only really play in a front 2 otherwise no point having him on the pitch.

There is no point having him on the pitch though

The drop off from Hamer to Burrows in creativity would be huge. Gus doesn't dribble a lot but he can create space for a shot or cross on his own very well. Burrows has to be fed the ball in a good situation, something United would struggle to do because the only player they have who regularly does that is Hamer......

Yes,it's not just relying on one player,and others need to step up,but it's difficult to see anyone step in off the left and ping an accurate 30 yard ball first time to create a chance...I'm not sure we have that,maybe Arblaster could do it,maybe Rothwell.
He's also the one of the few players since Brooks has gone who can run us up the pitch a few yards and carry the ball,maybe Femi and Donavon apart.
What were his stats last season 18 assists/8 goals something like that?
 
If we sell for over £6m I cant see how the club can be blamed in any way.
He's going to a club he loves, for one last go at the Prem.
Yeah it sucks, and yes the value is lower than he is worth but we've offered him extensions in the past but the lower we finish in the pyramid the less likely he was to sign them.

We'll not let anyone run their contract down again. Not under the Americans. It's a terrible business decision and the same people that moan that loan deals are too short term, would also keep him and let him go for free next season. Its crazy.

Get what you can, get the new guy in as quick as we did Gus when Sander left

I do worry about where out creation will come from when Gus goes but I just looked back at what I believe must will percieve was our "purple patch" last season, which was this block of 10 games....

Do you know how many of these games Gus started? The answer is 4 games and 2 of them are the 2 defeats at WBA and Wrexham.
