The way he’s let his fitness deteriorate since joining us has been a disgrace. I wish we’d seen him in peak condition. Always baffled me, a player with that talent should be as fit as possible and he could play much higher! It’s the reason no one else ever signed him from us.

The enormity of SUFC's current situation has kicked in. Not blaming the manager for the financial pressure the club is under but it is clearly affecting him. His response to the Hamer question should have been a robust if our valuation isnt met he is staying.

The current failed recruitment structure is being held together with sticking plaster costing the club money. The owners seem oblivious to the damage this is doing. Experienced skilled negotiators to move out the dross and get deals over the line are required. The club would seem to have only a one man band plate spinner in Bettis doing the negotiations with his back up Schieber as gopher.

The only outgoing in recent years where the club significantly benefited was Ramsdale. His sale was allegedly negotiated by third parties from Jordan brought in by PA.

We are going into the last day of the window again where a lack of capable recruitment resources risks burdening the club with more dross. Leaving the existing dross still on the books. Players in the last year of their contracts will be left in limbo with little evidence there is a willingness to initiate contract extension talks. The fact the manager admits pro active contract renegotiation isnt happening at the club speaks volumes.

If ever there was a case for SUFC needing an experienced Director of Football it is now.

Or simply new or competent owners.

Tbh, im not too fussed if Hamer has gone. Nice player, gifted, but was also a big part of the shite season last season and didnt pull up any trees. Let us not forget he was part of the shit show and was also going tbrough the motions last season. Callum O'Hare was a far better player for us. Also if he goes for £5.5m then at least we havent lost him for nothing and we have saved probably about £30 per week in wages. A young quick winger please as his replacement and most will soon be moving on from our frend Gus.

We dont have a good team we finished 13th last season with this lot plus others. We are bang average. Look at other chsmpionship sides boro wolves southampton burnley streets ahead of us we are weaker than last season .. rinse and repeat.

In a nutshell, I think the manager picks the team and does the interviews basically. The DOF does everything else regarding the operations of running the club, dealing with contracts etc etc.

I may be wrong, but that's my understanding.

A DoF doesn't need to have played the game if he has a team around him that's competent and can be trusted.

One of the main benefits of the DoF structure is to take emotion out of the decision making process and focus on what's good for the club in the long run, rather than signing a player cause you owe the agent a favour or you think a player is a good lad.

• Player analytics highlight where the team performs well and where the team has gaps.
• Recruitment / Scouting look for players with the required characteristics that fill that gap.
• The long list is shared with the first team coaching staff and manager and a short list drawn up from the favourites.
• Short list is presented to the DoF to negotiate the purchases.

Player contracts/options are incredibly complicated, this is why you want a commercial expert rather than a football expert doing it.

I like how he mentioned getting the best out of players like Cooper, Burrows, Seriki, Chong and others whilst seemingly forgetting he’s worked with these players already for the best part of a season now.

It sounds to me like:

A - CW knows he’s got what he’s got to work with and doesn’t know how to do that

B - We’re putting all our eggs into the Souttar basket, the Hamer money will help make that happen, so we can pay probably over the odds and pray he doesn’t get injured again

C - The owners have allocated money elsewhere instead of transfers to ensure the longevity of the club. They’ve probably looked at the money spent last summer (including Wilders signings) and tightened the purse strings.

Fun season incoming.

I think fundamentally our owners aren’t football people, so they rely on other people to advise, eg Bord, Wilder, Bettis, but equally none of those advisors have the required knowledge to grow a football club.

Erm. It’s plain to understand that he’s stating there is no backing from the board and he has to work with the shite they accumulated last year as well as the players that have suffered setbacks with injuries. It’s not hard to understand.

Because, despite all evidence to the opposite, Wilder sees himself as a top tier manager and has become obsessed with big names like Phillips & Souttar. He’d see players like Cleary as beneath him.

He’s stated he wants experience and that the squad last year had very little experience to manage games to a conclusion. It’s not that hard to I understand.

The Wendy were constantly complaining that they played with kids all season when the reality is that our squad was younger on average than theirs.
