We are yes. When we made the payment, it was spread out through his contract so e.g. if we bought him for 10 million on a 4-year contract, we would give them 2.5 million a year. Now he is the last year we owe them that final year.
The offer accepted was 15m with a sell on clause of 15%. There's one last payment due soon of 3.75m.

Thanks for Gus Back, done you over a barrel aswell with the fee.
Enjoy Bolton away.
Enjoy your moment in the sun. I think we did you at the time with the fee for Gus too. So it's swings and roundabouts.
Fee ain't agreed yet but he goes for nowt next summer which is why it's not at least what we paid you.

We ain't been to Bolton away for a few years, you haven't been to most PL clubs away for 25 years.
Enjoy it, if you can... we might be seeing you again in 12 months time.

I can’t tell you something that hasn’t happened.

I can tell you who has left with one year or less left on their deal, for a far lower price. None of which we ever really replaced.

Ndiaye
Berge
Anel
Bogle
And now, Hamer.

We also let one of our most expensive signings ever, Oli McBurnie, walk away for zero.
Cracking post. All under Bettis reign….. he is the one constant for this shit show!

what teams did we play against?

Hes unfit yes i agree, but he has always been a bit agressive. Thats what gives him that edge. He has a bit of fight in him!

Yeah great shout! lets get a winger on loan from a premier league team to develop him and then he goes back at the end of the season. Pay his wages and we get no returns whatsoever!

As in the premiership season 23/24? Anel Ahmedhodžić? Vinícius Souza? If we didn't have Hamer, we would have been a laughingstock and finished bottom rivaling derby for their points total

As I've said before deluded pal.
If you call petulance, ill discipline and snide no need for fouls: aggression I agree with you. Unfortunately the guy behaves like a petulant school boy who we turn a blind eye to as he can be a brilliant footballer, but surely so much better if he did not pick up stupid bookings and giving the ball away in stupid areas

They're doing the billy big bollocks tact of "Buying him still for squad depth and to come off the bench"
If and when it happens Hamer wouldn't be 1st choice in midfield. We've just spent nearly 50m on 2 midfielders. 1 of them is getting announced any minute. His best position is CM/AM. It's our strongest position.

I'm not saying he isn't good enough. He would have to wait for his chance and earn a starting position.

Wilder stated this morning that the wage bill when we achieved 92 points was the fourth highest in the league, it is currently 10th highest

Hamer hasn't gone yet. We made substantial money on all of them except for Berge and McBurnie. What is it that you propose the club do, to make people sign contracts, they don't want to sign?
We could and in some cases, should have made substantially more.

As Bladesman outlined, making a call sooner would help the club plan to properly replace and give the club leverage to sell at a higher price. We have very limited negotiating power in the final year which is why they all leave for relatively smaller amounts.

I get we can’t win them all, but that’s a pretty harrowing list of failures over the last 3 years.

Hamer is defiantly not playing on Sunday.
Was good while it lasted and at least, we have got a fee for him.

One of the better players in recent times! Will be missed and i would welcome him back if the opportunity ever came about!

Great football player and a good lad! always made time for the fans which will be remembered!
Exactly why we would be happy to see him back. Always gave 100% and a firm favourite of ours. We were.in control of the playoff final until he got injured. His fee paid for nearly half our present squad.

I would support strictly adhering to a 2 year rule with contracts

Don't care who the player is. Nobody can be treated as irreplaceable, because none of them are

If they enter the last 2 years, don't want to renew, and have significant transfer value, then sell

The return on investment since 2019 has been disgraceful and can never happen again

Timing player sales is a crucial skill, and not all that difficult either

Exactly, not sure we are firm enough on this. This all needs to be done in a summer window as well not mid season.

You raised the point about it being a lot.

I’m saying it’s a lot to us, but to the people who matter in this argument, the players, it seemingly isn’t enough.

Another poster made the comment that we pay shit wages, we have a full squad so obviously what we're paying those players is enough.

Nothing wrong with that interview, as honest as the day is long. I am mates with others who have season tickets elsewhere (Forest, Peterborough, Notts County, and a load in non-league) and all of these clubs (plus others I hear on phone-ins) are in the same position: waiting for movement further up the food chain before players to purchase and then loans become available. You can do your business early if you are awash with cash; we're not and will just have to wait our turn, frustrating as it is.

There is a bit of a backfire on this though. For example, we made it too obvious with Berge that we wanted to offload him before he got to the last year of his contract. We handed leverage to other clubs who were happy to sit and wait for him to get cheaper.

It just needs to be an unwritten internal rule that before the final 2 years of any player deal, it's either sign an extension or leave. There has been no agent leverage working out here by letting a player get to the final year, its never forced us as a club into offering much better terms.

With Cov having a bid rejected for not meeting valuations you can only assume that is in the millions but ultimately he is also one of the highest paid players here, it might be only for a season but cash and some salary reduction rather than a free is better for us.
Totally agree, but people say sell him now.
We could sell him now if we give him away we are trying to negotiate a decent fee and that takes time.
For all we know Coventry have offered £2m and we are weighing up whether we accept or sit tight in the hope they increase their offer

It's going to be great being in the Prem for the first time in 25 years. But are we going to enjoy it?

I either want us to be a mid table side most of the time or I wouldn’t be unhappy to be back in the Championship. Before we got relegated from the Prem we were the 4th longest serving club in the top flight. Liverpool were there just a couple of years longer. But it was a relegation battle most seasons which wasn't fun. Had some great times on our way back from L2.

Exactly. The management of it is poor given it’s a repeating pattern for top players.

And if we hoped Leeds were going to give us the same price as 12 months ago then that commercial naivety is telling.
Its easy to say we should have sold last summer now knowing what we do.Reality is we had just missed out on promotion and had intentions of going again. Until we self sabotaged ourselves I think we could have too
