It’s blindingly obvious that we don’t have any money.

The PL money has stopped. We set fire to the best part of 20 million last summer on crap like mcguinness, zaterstrom, matos etc etc. who are already going tk be shipped out for cents on the dollar.

When you add the money wasted on Cannon its no surprise we aren’t being funded.

I like chris as a manager but he talks about ‘Not putting the club at risk’. What was rhe point in the business last jan - we were miles off getting close the the play offs.

We dont fritter away that money. Maybe we can offer brooks a contract worth his potential.

A DoF doesn't need to have played the game if he has a team around him that's competent and can be trusted.

One of the main benefits of the DoF structure is to take emotion out of the decision making process and focus on what's good for the club in the long run, rather than signing a player cause you owe the agent a favour or you think a player is a good lad.

• Player analytics highlight where the team performs well and where the team has gaps.
• Recruitment / Scouting look for players with the required characteristics that fill that gap.
• The long list is shared with the first team coaching staff and manager and a short list drawn up from the favourites.
• Short list is presented to the DoF to negotiate the purchases.

Player contracts/options are incredibly complicated, this is why you want a commercial expert rather than a football expert doing it.

How do you get players to sign contracts when they don't want to? It happens to far bigger clubs than United.

By not paying poor wages and leaving negotiations until the end when the balance of power sits with the player.

It does happen at other clubs, but let’s not pretend we aren’t repeat offenders here for it happening to our top talent.

Genuinely think we’ll be better off without him, I’ve said it for years. He’s unfit, undisciplined and gives the ball away in dangerous areas. People ignore this because he can score the occasional great goal or provide a good pass. At the end of the day, we now know where we stand. We knew it already, as punters (lol) but we've had it spelt out now in black and white. We aren't competing for fees, we aren't going to be big spenders, we largely go with what we've got.

I just wish we would have acted with this realism from the get go. Stop posturing with bids for Souttar or suggesting you'll spaff away funds on Phillips. Spend within your means, plan accordingly, and start a rebuilding. I don't mind intriguing signings for decent prices, over busted flushes and expensive top end players. At least it adds a bit of interest to see how the squad develops.

I like how he mentioned getting the best out of players like Cooper, Burrows, Seriki, Chong and others whilst seemingly forgetting he’s worked with these players already for the best part of a season now.

It sounds to me like:

A - CW knows he’s got what he’s got to work with and doesn’t know how to do that

B - We’re putting all our eggs into the Souttar basket, the Hamer money will help make that happen, so we can pay probably over the odds and pray he doesn’t get injured again

C - The owners have allocated money elsewhere instead of transfers to ensure the longevity of the club. They’ve probably looked at the money spent last summer (including Wilders signings) and tightened the purse strings.

Fun season incoming.

I think fundamentally our owners aren’t football people, so they rely on other people to advise, eg Bord, Wilder, Bettis, but equally none of those advisors have the required knowledge to grow a football club.
