I Hear you my issue is how much of the £5m would be reinvested in new players. Hamer goes how do we replace with better or on par?
Maybe we replace with different, as opposed to better or the same?
Different a la Lewis Dobbin (and yes, I know he's gone elsewhere), perhaps?

Hamer money = Souttar money. The quicker they both get done the better.
Then we have 3 more loan spaces to fill? At the end of the window there might be some smaller deals in and out too.
I think that is the best I am hoping for now.
How do we replace Hamer though? We already need cover on the LW, we would then need cover and a starter

BBD? A random prem youth?

Smacks of the Ndiaye and Berge sales close to the start of the prem season this

It'll be BBD, and Wilder will be singing his name from the rooftops as if we'd just signed Yamal

We seem to continually make a rod for our back.

Arguably our 3 best players of the last 5 years have left for relative peanuts as we’ve allowed their contracts to run down to less than a year, selling them all on the dawn of a new season with no replacements in place.

This pre-season really has been pretty similar to the dreadful one we had before our last PL embarrassment.

But Chris. It seems the better players, you know, the ones with a bit of flair and skill, don’t want to play for you.
I'm sure Gus would want to leave whoever the manager was, he's too good for us and is in a position to pick up one more big contract before he retires. Why would he sign a new contract at a club that looks like midtable fodder?

Indeed in terms of selling 3 of our best players for less than their worth.

I'd argue it was more frustrating losing Berge and N'Diaye as we had just been promoted but Berge had been constantly told be his national boss to leave and saw the lack of activity coming in. And N'Diaye very, very nearly signed a new deal only for Marseille to give him the ultimatum of "Now or never".

With Hamer in this instance he's at least played 2 seasons back down with us. And so it makes alot of sense from his point of view.

How do you get players to sign contracts when they don't want to? It happens to far bigger clubs than United.

BBD as Hamer replacement would be very underwhelming to say the least. His first stint seems like nothing more than a purple patch in retrospect and his second stint was completely forgettable.

That mustn’t be allowed. Now we’re a standard Champ club, any large fee should be for a player who can accrue value.

This is why Norwich took Brooks.

The presser suggests were broke. Suggests the owners are about as much use as a cock flavoured lolly pop. Suggests that gus is gone and probably weve been outbid for souttar. And Suggests wilder is on the brink of losing it

Sell gus
Use funds to boost souttar

Just do it ffs. Owners far too slow and disinterested I suspect helmy is the root cause of this as never seen

What’s this presser from Wilder, just seen on Reddit.

“It was the same with Brooks.”

The Hamer situation is totally different to that with Brooks. Hamer is approaching the end of his career and wants/needs to get the best deal he can for him and his family. Brooks is in the early(ish) stage of his career which he wants to progress and the truly depressing thing about his departure is that he clearly couldn’t see his future benefiting by staying at Bramall Lane. He’d been with us since he was a young kid, he loved the club and the fans, and he’d surely have been “open to contract talks” if he’d felt any optimism about where we were going. But he wasn’t open to talks. And you think back to his comments in the short-lived Selles era about appreciating the change in coaching methods which the arrival of Selles had brought about.

Wilder’s comment shows a worrying (and, I’m sorry to say, typical) lack of self-awareness on his part. He’s become a significant part of the problem.
