CONFIRMED Hamer joins Coventry

See, like Natalie Imbruglia, I'm torn.

1. I want him to stay, he's our best player and a joy to watch. If we were arguably in with a shout of promotion, I'd say keep at all costs, roll the dice and risk him leaving for free.

2. We need the money to reinvest, milk the best possible deal we can for his contract length and help the financial health of the club.

3. Fuck it, refuse to deal with Coventry, string them along, then fuck them and they nasty rash fans over. Why?

This needs to be sorted ASAP so we can reinvest the money. Don't want to go into the season where he starts the first week then leaves as although I think CW will have his targets; it could be that a few would have already moved to another club and we end up with a 35-year-old.

Same with Peck. Ideally, we want the best possible deal, but if we know there going, get them gone so were not scrambling for a signing come transfer deadline day.
 
It’s not about accepting any offer just to try and get someone off the wage bill, it’s about accepting a fair offer so we can attempt to replace or improve other areas of the squad.

Absolutely no point in accepting anything less than we need.

Scenario 1 - Say we accepted £5 million, great a bit of dosh, but that almost guarantees the sale of peck or multiple players because we’d still have a deficit of around 15 - 20 million to find, potentially leaving us with an ever more threadbare squad.

Scenario 2 - Take £15 million with his wages gone and the brooks money added in we’re in a position where we probably don’t need to save much more with creative accounting and operational decisions.

Scenario 3 - Stick to our guns on the valuation, Coventry don’t cough up, we keep a player who despite “dropping off” had 17 goal contributions placing him in the top ten in the league (6th best midfielder) playing for a mid table side and see where we are in January.
 
The way I look at it, Gus has a year left on his contract, we can hold on to him and hope he signs a new one if not he goes on a free, but if Coventry want him that bad make sure they pay top price for him but make sure Coventry have to work hard for his signature.

I’d even go so far as to say we have no obligation to reach a fair value. We’re not sponsored by Friends Reunited. I hope IF they get him it’s at a very unfair value to them and they end up paying over the odds to prise him away. If they want him so much then make them pay. It’s not the make a wish foundation. We’re not here as the facilitators to create a nice story narrative for Coventry.

We all know we can’t replace him directly. It will take a change of system IF he goes.

I hope he stays. If you imagine that Hull and Coventry may be the only two to take him at that level, then in 12 month’s time, there is every chance they will be back at this level anyway. Who os to say that even at the end of his contract that the next batch of promoted teams will even fancy him?

Must be a set of circumstances where we look at a new deal if the window closes and he’s still here.

It’s not as if at 30 he will be able to command a huge signing on fee and let’s be honest, little gets made of it but players can also get a decent signing on fee just for renewing their deal.

I think Souttar leaves simply because it makes no sense for a defender who performed well enough at the WC to have to play third tier, especially when he wasn’t really part of the relegated team who you could say should “own” the ‘R’.

However I do see Hamer’s situation as different. He’s very good but it’s not as if PL is his accepted level.
 
The only way I'd accept Hamer going is if we got £8-£10m and invested a majority into a young left winger on a long term contract.

But for that reason and not being able to trust the club to do so, I am very much against letting him go.

Dont agree, he was getting all irate in a friendly ffs, its not in his nature, hes super competitive and hed need to prove he's worthy of a big salary when he goes on a free
 



Either sell him or don't. But do it today. Or 3 weeks ago.

We've got no replacements or options in for attacking midfield or left wing.
 
What’s the plan when we don’t have any decent players to sell to cover the annual shortfall?

We sell Hamer & Peck and we’ve then got Seriki, Cooper, Arblaster and Burrows worth any more than a £1m each.
 
It would be a silly thing to down tools or not be arsed. However you look at it he’s playing for a contract this season, whether it’s here or elsewhere. Underperforming purposely isn’t going help him secure a wage increase.

As for player values we have no idea what players are going to be worth, peck two seasons on is proof of that, if it wasn’t for arblasters injury he may have never got the chance.

I said that other day. If he wants PL football again, he has 3 choices/chances:

  1. Hull
  2. Coventry
  3. United
He'd be better off going to Netherlands or Serie A if he wants to play at the top end of a top flight, because he's not going to be a top-10 PL player
 
Hamer is in that weird spot where he's too talented for the Championship, but not physically gifted enough for the Premier League.
So in England he has the choice between being a big fish in the Championship or being a squad player at best in the Premier League.
