I'll answer that, and have a think about my suggestion:

What if we went up? Well, obviously this squad as it stands would be torn a new arsehole even by the lesser teams above us. It would need radical strengthening in all areas, or Saturday's penising by Gillingham would seem like a decent afternoon out in Kent.

This obviously involves investment, doesn't it? McCabe doesn't like investing in the team much as we have seen. Whilst cabbages buy up the season tickets before we have kicked a fucking football for the new season based upon empty optimism in Positive Nige and all the assumed stardust he can sprinkle on our squad of losers, McCabe is happy. He can shove a lot of cash the way of a new Desso pitch, like we don't fucking need centre backs at all and our midfield is strong and agile and we are booting goals in for fun.

So it suits him to underplay the squad, as long as there are 15k+ through the turnstiles and this years kit is flying off the shelves.

Big city, small town club.

That's why.

We lost around four million in the year ended June 2014. Approx five million in each of the preceding two years. Yeo staying in L1 deliberately makes huge financial sense for the board .

Well I feel like a cabbage

Here you go then...

Yup. We possibly offset that with player sales.

Going up would mean that us pesky supporters might want even better players, Sean. Heaven forbid.

Think it was well spoken by someone who has seen how many of his 122 appearance compared to yourself who has probably seen them all!! Not bothered to read rest of thread.
I'm going for 1 of his 122, which is all that's needed to preach endlessly on any topic, it seems.

Season ticket holders are "cabbages" ? Am I reading this right ?

Seems like the board see it that way.

Buy a season ticket! Yes - join the mighty Blades on their 2015-16 campaign toward promotion to the Championship! For those of you who tore up your ticket after Swindon and said you'd never part with hundreds of pounds again to see us fuck up and fail and substandard players put in shit performances, look! We have a brand new manager! Down with Negative - up with Positive!

*sound of Sheffield internet overheating and cash rolling into the company's bank account*

Ooops. We reluctantly sold the reluctant Jamie Murphy, our best player. Reluctantly. See you at the game on Saturday everyone!

I can't describe it any other way. Sorry. It's not as much a slap in the fact of the faithful, but one of those bullseyed toe-ends right in the potatoes that grounds itself on your pubic bone and sends both testicles left and right in a bizarre dance of vomit-coaxing, seariing pain.

For females reading, that hurts. A lot.

Fuck the board. Up the Blades.

Fifteen million in three years from player sales ? You haven't forgotten the six and a half million from the FA Cup run and the two mill plus from the exploits last season?

I know we do lots of undiscloseds P but the neck end of fifteen million? Did Juve buy Diego then?

Who needs company accounts that tell you what we lose every season when you can just make the numbers up to go along, eh? :)

You've got to remember that the money from hot dogs and those double Mars Bars go into a seperate till which is never declared. As does the multi million pound fees we received for Jordan Stewart, Andy Taylor and James Harper!

Well I feel like a cabbage for buying a season ticket again.

Now that we have been shafted again, for the umpteenth time and have the Board laughing all the way to the bank,it's time for a bit of honesty

Put up the notice on the doors for all to see the true nature of the bastards.

"To all our supporters. "FUCK O FF W E 'VE GOT YER MONEY."

Despite large quantities of Barolo I'm already regretting that post as in time, someone will class it as fact from " a very very good source" :(((

Those clappers who "had it on good authority" that Murphy was happy and settled in Sheffield with his family blah blah blah might now realise that not one professional footballer in this whole corrupt game is loyal to a club no matter how much they blub/shout/articulate their love for a club.

They are all looking for the next deal to secure their next pay day and line their own pockets. The quicker people get over the feelings that we are different to any other club in the world the better. We hold no more appeal than a team like Chesterfield, in fact if Chesterfield offered a player more money than we could I am pretty certain a player would join them instead.

Pompey,

With respect you're an idiot. Open your eyes and smell the coffee.
Murphy is talented but he's no comparison to Deane, Maguire etc.
For both his 2 seasons he was non description before Xmas but I agree excellent after Xmas.
Even Keith Edwards said we've bought a dud as he was so poor in his first few months.
He's poor at crossing for a winger, lacks physicality and let's his head drop when we're struggling.

I've no doubt that Adams will end up a far better player than Murphy.

We're strong in attacking midfield but weak in defence so logic suggest
Sell a saleable asset in the position which we have strength in depth.

Murphy wanted to leave to increase his salary, flair play to him
But if we invest wisely then it could be a great piece of business.
Remember we now have (on paper) the best manager in league 1.

Or just becaus he's at United do you think Adkins becomes a no hoped overnight?
The pessimism of some Blades is like a black cloud over the club and negative outlook
can become a self fulfilling prophesy.

Because selling our best player isn't something I would imagine being much in the team manager's hands. This is 'board level' and the phone call has come in, there seems to have been no strong haggling and doors shut in the face of BHA and then that's it - Murphy is gone.

And so it was with Blackman, McDonald (with the trigger) and Maguire.

What frustrates me the most is this Foxy. Let's do a 'finger in the air on key player value over the past few seasons.

Blackman = £500k
McDonald = £350k
Maguire = £2.5m
Murphy = £1.5m (we are led to believe)

Are you telling me that Brayford, Done, Sharp are the equivalent of nearly five million quid?

Something just doesn't add up.

Oh, hang on. Desso pitch!

pommpey
Why is everyone so short sighted witth regards to the Desso pitch and why is it a stick to beat the board with?
This wasn't a short term decision, our pitch was poor and not conducive to good football, Clough was very critical of it. The boardc an either continue relaying the surface, which also isn't cheap, or they can invest in Desso. Longer term they have probably saved money and given the players a surface that encourages good football. Is this not a good thing?
Oh no, board looks long-term, they're cunts. Board doesn't look long-term, they're cunts

You've surprised me of late Brownie. For someone who's always seemed to "get it", you' seem to have "lost it" (I mean sight of what matters, not the plot).

You've made some excellent posts about the crack that makes football. Since when did it become all about the politics?

UTB

I remember you after the Blackman sale. You seem to be very calm about this one.

The only thing I have to say about this deal is that it is predictable. We are following the same formula of rolling over to agents and selling our best players, and it will have the same result.

With this squad and these injuries and this board, we will not be going up this season.

Consequently, I can't regard his sale with the same dismay as Currie, Deane, Fjortoft, etc etc and at over £2M, I think it's fantastic business.

UTB

Murphy is talented but he's no comparison to Deane, Maguire etc.

Fair points, but we're not comparing JM's abilities with all the other 'big names' we've sold. Without exception, all those players left but we had other talent left in the side (even when McDonald left, we still had Maguire, Murphy etc.) Given our injury list, this sale has left us pretty much bereft as a team - no goalie, ineffective and lightweight defence/midfield and little discernable attacking threat.

With what's left of the transfer window, NA may surprise us and use the money wisely (and I don't mean 4 or 5 lightweights), but I'm not holding my breath.

The pessimism of some Blades is like a black cloud over the club and negative outlook
can become a self fulfilling prophesy.

Agreed. All I can say is it's not unreasonable to think we've been here before (selling good players) but everything surrounding this sale: the manager the board, the ambition this sale, make me think it's different.

Let's see the optimists pour some sunshine on our best player (and really, only source of goal threat).

The sooner you guys wake up and realise this board doesn't want our team out of this division, the better. All this talk of 'well, he wasn't that good ... " riddle-me-this:

So, who goes out wide left now to draw in two players to negate the threat? Which player is now as good as Murphy to run at the opposition? Why have we fucking sold him? 'If he wants to go, nowt we can do.' Bollocks. He signed a fucking new contract last year. And you daft twats are already believing the shit being fed out to you like paper off a fucking bog roll. 'Undisclosed?' Two million? Two and a half? C'mon McCabe - out with it you plank. How much did our best player go for and how much did you actually spend on that fucking pitch? How much are you making availabe to our new manager now he has had his first taste of what you bastards do periodically to this club?

It's like the South Stand and Tony Currie going up the road for peanuts never fucking happened, did it?

Jesus. I am depressed. Deane, Fjortoft, Quinn, Jagielka, Brown, Borbokis, Blackman, S Quinn, McDonald, Maguire but to name a few. What, if ever, came the other way but for substandard players? Christ, we had to almost burn down Bramall Lane to get the daft bellends to buy something with (some of the) the two and ahalf fro Maguire and that wasn't a centre back.

Fuck the board. Good luck Jamie. You were my best player in the past two seasons.

Yes spot on .............. I respectfully questioned Jim Phipps about the ambition of the board on FB after the Gillingham debacle guess what 30mins later I was defriended that's how much the board care about the clubs fans ....................... well they can all fuck right off. the best place for my ST will be in Jim's arse crack.

How is this "different"? Regardless of how great they're telling us its going to be, the reality is the board have sold our best player. The "future" is now one step further away, and harder to cement, given Murphy was one of those we all thought would hold his own in the Champo.
I'm yet to see or believe how this is "different"; it appears to be same owd bit with promises of gallons of free beer tomorrow, not just a few barrels.

The key word in that first sentence is "if" - and the reason so many Blades are pessimistic is that we don't invest wisely. Were Sharp, Woolford and Sammon wise investments? Were Coutts, Holt and Alcock wise investments? Were Brandy and JCR wise investments? Even Brayford - I know everyone loves him, but did we really need an over-priced fullback when we were crying out for a centre half?

Hope springs eternal, for sure, but the constant unthinking blind faith shown by many is, IMHO, just as damaging to the prospects of Sheffield United as the overt pessimism of others. But this time it'll be different, right? Yeah, course it will...

You're dead right Rev, I was angry after that sale. You see I don't blindly clap along to everything the club does.

But there are clear differences between then and now. That was a period of continual sales. We sold our only player who could score a goal. I predicted we wouldn't score many from then on, and we didn't. Slipping from top position to "nowhere".

This time we've been acquiring players for a while (too many of the wrong ones thanks to Clough) but we are covered in that position. We've got time before the window closes and I fully expect we will. If we don't, I'll be joining in the hysteria. Others will continue it no matter what.

It's different in the ways described.

As I see it the Prince arrived at the club with the aim of taking us into Division 1 - which is where the money is. And Phipps has stated that the money will be reinvested in the first team.

Unless I'm missing something aren't the owners losing millions while we are out of the top flight? If nothing else it's in their interests especially the Prince to get us there. But that may be a separate thread.
