What if he's thinking "I hope I've done the right thing in sanctioning the sale pre-match, we'd better put in the performance I think we can" ?

Do we then want rid of him as well as the board? or do we give him time to see if it was the right thing to do?
Nobody is suggesting not allowing him the time so don't see your point on this one.

Evidently...

My point was essentially, "what if new Nige 'reluctantly' agreed with the sale"?

Me neither.

Adkins will join the gathering litany of unfortunates lured into Bramall Lane on shit promises - or in some cases abject abeyance to the board's instructions.

Adkins must be thinking, "I have a massive derby tomorrow against a side renowned for upsetting the apple cart after a slapping last week and a struggle midweek and now my best player is gone, and I have a sackful of injuries as well. Why did I take this fucking job?"

Answer "for the money".

No i'm talking about your comment on some fans supposedly not allowing him the time because so far I haven't seen one call for Adkins to be sacked.

why dont we move the shit on then instead of our better players?

At the end of the day who ever we sell is a third division player even the better ones.

They need to earn being called second division players by dragging us out of this division.

Can't believe how bad we have got, that all hell is breaking loose over the sale of an average winger. We apparently have got £2m for him and Wednesday sold Antonio (proven in Championship) for £1.5m last season. I think it's a decent deal personally. We've sold a lot of better players than Murphy!

There were a few abusing him and telling him to fuck off within the first 10 minutes on Saturday.

My point was in response to pommpey 's about the board, and Nigel's current thoughts - if we so vehemently disagree with the decision and think the board should go, then why does the manager get off if agreeing with the decision?

We don't know if he agreed or not do we? Was it in Adkins control even at all?

We know the board had some control over the situation because Jim said so in his tweet.

Because selling our best player isn't something I would imagine being much in the team manager's hands. This is 'board level' and the phone call has come in, there seems to have been no strong haggling and doors shut in the face of BHA and then that's it - Murphy is gone.

And so it was with Blackman, McDonald (with the trigger) and Maguire.

What frustrates me the most is this Foxy. Let's do a 'finger in the air on key player value over the past few seasons.

Blackman = £500k
McDonald = £350k
Maguire = £2.5m
Murphy = £1.5m (we are led to believe)

Are you telling me that Brayford, Done, Sharp are the equivalent of nearly five million quid?

Something just doesn't add up.

Oh, hang on. Desso pitch!

That's good of them / you. Of course, as you've stated you're really disappointed that he hasn't offloaded all the dead wood in the first few months, and decided that in wanting to assess our current squad it has destroyed our season.

So, how many more defeats has he got? Two? Three?

Did the rest of the squad sign for free?

Playing devils advocate, I'd suggest Brayford is worth more than Maguire, Done more than Blackman.

We've also signed far more than the players you've mentioned, had to pay players and staff off and having recruited our bigger signings from above, will have paid them in all likelihood more than the ones leaving.

Oh, hang on. Desso pitch!

Has anyone said we can't make a signing because of the Desso pitch?

How many players have we signed since we booked in the pitch?

What makes you think that because I have an opinion on the way things are going and mistakes that have been made that i'm automatically only going to give him 3 games before I start calling for him to be sacked?

An that's not a dig Pomp, just my view!
ah goo on, have a dig ;)

If taking it on trust what has been said by the club then it sounds like the written transfer request was put in after he'd just gone through all the pre-season games, and after him playing in the Gillingham game. So if I was in Adkins position my call would be fuck it, let him go.

Or he might be thinking: I've got a few promotions on my CV, a few quid in the bank, I'm getting to know the squad in competitive games, I've got The Beard, Matt Done and others to return, I've done it before, I'll do it again. I'm up for this.

Oddly, I had an inkling this was about to happen.

I just saw it on facebook and yelled out, "NO FUCKING WAY!" much to the startlement of my missus.

I just can't see how people are being so sanguine about this. It's a fucking disastrous day for United.

Just when you think a day can't get any worse the lads moaning about the weather piss wet through working in the rain the star player is sold!
Ok tomorrow meet the lads 12 o'clock , match, out after until completely bolloxed

Devils advocate again ,if you were a manager and another team was interested in your ,Macdonald , Murphy ,Maguire and offered decent money you would still want that player as he is obviously good. If said player then says I would rather play for someone else for more money ,do you want to keep a disinterested half arsed player who doesn't want to play or do you take the money and buy someone who does ?

Sorry but I am sick of being told we aren't going to sell and then we do. Another season being sabotaged by a finance decision. We will be lucky to reach the playoffs and I hope we don't implode and go down because right now that seems just as likely. I'll always be a Unitedite but right now I am royally pissed off, though not surprised. I wish they would stop lying to us.

To be perfectly honest, I think there were far too many games where Murphy was disinterested and half arsed, even before anyone came in for him. We need players who are strong, passionate and can be relied upon to give everything for the cause, week in week out and for me Murphy is not that kind of player. Time will tell if he is a success at Brighton, but I think League one is about his level.

Consequently, I can't regard his sale with the same dismay as Currie, Deane, Fjortoft, etc etc and at over £2M, I think it's fantastic business.

Think it was well spoken by someone who has seen how many of his 122 appearance compared to yourself who has probably seen them all!! Not bothered to read rest of thread.

McCabe doesn't like investing in the team much as we have seen. Whilst cabbages buy up the season tickets before we have kicked a fucking football for the new season based upon empty optimism in Positive Nige and all the assumed stardust he can sprinkle on our squad of losers, McCabe is happy.

Season ticket holders are "cabbages" ? Am I reading this right ?

Well I feel like a cabbage for buying a season ticket again.
You've surprised me of late Brownie. For someone who's always seemed to "get it", you' seem to have "lost it" (I mean sight of what matters, not the plot).

You've made some excellent posts about the crack that makes football. Since when did it become all about the politics?
