Feel like I'm.watching someone I love or something beautiful slowly die and I'm helpless to stop it

If we hadn't done so well and the last few years been so joyous and exhilarating I probably wouldn't feel this way

I can understand everyone's reactions ,we aren't in the stadium doing our bit and are having to watch this unfold in front of us in the worst possible circumstances in the midst of a global pandemic and all the shit that entails to not being allowed in the stadium and watching ( win lose or draw )/the abomination that is sport without spectators .like a reanimated family pet dragging its self round the house

Fuck this year and fuck the football gods why they have chose to single us out after all we've done for the beautiful game I don't know but the anxiety and stress I'm going through watching us at the moment is unbearable and comparable to the major traumatic events in my life

It's only a game, there are far more important things in life beyond Sheffield United. (I do expect people to tell me otherwise but ya know..)

I’m just hoping the side do something / anything to stop this cycle. It’s sucking the joy out of every weekend.

it’s been months since I looked forward to a match. Months since I’ve looked forward to match of the day to see what pundits were saying about it. Ive not watched once this season.

it’s been months since I expected anything other than another defeat, since I went into the weekend excited to see us play, not fearing the worst.

I miss what they brought over the last 4 years because it’s been abject so far and I honestly can’t see it changing this season

Posted something very similar yesterday.
It's wretched.

Way I console myself is that whilst I enjoyed last season I also really enjoy being one of the better and bigger teams in the Championship. It’d be lovely to have some success at PL level but that isn’t particularly realistic and we’ll always be chasing those teams that can go out and splash the cash. Of course the PL is better and we’d all genuinely rather see us playing there every year but the excitement factor and match day experience is just as good for me in the Champ. So yeah, be a shitter if we go down but life goes on and we’ll still enjoy football at either tier.

I have the memories of those 5 months from August to January last season when we were one of the best sides in the country, will always be grateful to CWAK for that, it will go down in Blades history alongside the start that the John Harris side made in their first season back in the top flight in the early 70s, my dad always told me about that being one of the most exciting times to be a Blades fan and we can say we experienced something similar, however briefly.

Yesterday was particularly difficult for me. The Winter months are underpinned by Matchday. Getting out and about, meeting your mates, venturing far and wide in pursuit of your shared passion. On a day like yesterday the fog, dark, cold and drizzle wouldn't even register, if anything, wrapping up and spending the day outdoors in defiance is part of the fun, and certainly part of the mechanisms that keep us going during the days of travelling to and from work in the dark. Instead? Morrisons and M and S for my weekend entertainment.

I often make a case for Summer football is Scotland ever want to prosper, the counter argument is how depressing Winter is up there without Football. I understood this for the first time yesterday.

Nigel Adkins?

I was thinking this the other day, about football away days, hardly had any last season because the ticket allocations were so low. At least back in the Championship we had the chance to get away have a day out.

Keep your chin up son, times are shit I know, break a few rules and go n see your family and friends if it's that upsetting at the minute..

But remember, the celebrations, the head scratching when we were walking it through the championship, a league that the pigs told us we couldnt believe how good it was. Stick with the gaffer, stick with your gut instinct.. Its not an easy division this is the best league in the world and we're in it.. Focus on that..

You summed up my feelings perfectly. To think only a few months ago we were looking at being 2 divs higher and light years ahead of our delightful cheating neighbours to the distinct possibility that we will start next season on level terms just adds to the depressive feeling of it all.

On the plus side, if we did go down then no more VAR!

I think having to watch every game on a TV screen at home just makes it worse. I appreciate quite a few will do that regularly and I do for those 7 or 8 away games I don't go to.

I just think being at the game and having the opportunity to dissect the performance over a few drinks afterwards somehow helps more in situations like this.

Unfortunately Covid seems to have amplified the darker side of the game with opportunism trying to be taken by the big players.

I've found it more difficult to watch football in general in recent months and I was craving the opportunity before last season restarted.

It goes deeper than our shocking start but I do think we've all been brought down to earth to varying degrees.

I was trying to preach perspective in the summer by saying 17th would be success this season. I did expect a tougher campaign for us but not once did I foresee this start.

I think many of us had started to feel we'd turned a corner as a club recently and were starting to move away from the perennial long term failings of SUFC.

All of a sudden the United of old is back in your face and the realisation that any remote success for us is very fleeting and limited.

We have no divine right to anything but we don't seem to be able to even match what your Burnleys and Brightons and Palaces do let alone other similar sized clubs have achieved over the decades.

My hope now is that we can do something akin to a Burnley or West Brom and come pretty much straight back.

It would very much go against the grain for us but the potential is there if the Prince keeps his cool, which he has done so far.

Absolutely this. For the first time ever in my lifetime supporting blades, I want to press a fast forward button to get to the end of the season and start a Championship campaign with crowds, passion and without whining gits like Klopp (what a dick he turns out to be). Love this team and management and, like all of us, finding it unbearable to watch us transition from unplayable to unwatchable in just a few short months.

My reflections are:
  • Chris Wilder has clearly been abducted by aliens and replaced by some genial, clueless doppelgänger (it doesn't fool me - he will eventually claw his way out of the spaceship and return, snarling and spitting to the fray)
  • Sander Berge looks like a ballerina who has unwittingly joined a hip-hop crew. All poise and balance but completely out of sync with his homies
  • McBurnie continues to leave it all out there on the pitch. Sadly, someone has to clear up the stinking mess at the end of each game with a bucket and shovel
  • Oli Norwood is like a comic strip character who has had his magic boots nicked but the storyline going on far too long
  • JOC's magic hat was clearly bloody useless when the brick was aimed at his leg
  • Rambo can't decide if he's in Rambo 1 as a fit & virile force or Rambo Last Blood where he spends too much time reflecting on the darkness in men's souls as the ball trickles past him
It's all too much for me. Always and forever a Blade and want us to stick by Wilder even in the event of relegation but please, let it all be over soon.

I know where you're coming from. I've been watching Blades home & away for 45 years & seen relegations/promotions along the way. Whether it's good times or bad the experience has been shared with others, best mates, mates, family.
Good Times are made even more magical celebrating in the pub, on the coach & always with me best mates. Similarly, bad times are never spent 'crying' on your own & usually with others, gallon of ale & putting the world to rights.
Having already spent many years suffering with mental issues, this appalling lockdown has hurt me personally in so many ways. Living with a 12 year old daughter means meaningful conversation is at a premium, frankly apart from loving each other to bits, we aint got nowt in common. When football resumed initially the powers that be said it had to happen & it would help those suffering with mental health problems!!!!!!!
REALLY .. I MEAN REALLY????
End of last season made things worse & this season is just making things worse x 1000.
If we are to be relegated, I want to have me mate at my side not sat alone in me house. I want to hear him moaning on the coach or in the Bessemar or both.
F##kin hate this horrible, depressing situation. Spent a fortnight before lockdown desperately trying to get 2 tickets for Newcastle, got them on the Thursday & rest is history.

F##K THIS F##KIN W@NK CO-VED & 5HITTY LOCKDOWN.

Is that just for COVID reasons? Even if not, we'll have better subs than many!

No idea, I just saw a championship game the other day when they just kept making subs and the commentator mentioned it.

Add to that Pullis will be pushing for promotion, it's possible that in a years time or so they will be light years ahead of us! perish the thought!!

I've kind of accepted our lot the last few weeks. No point getting angry about it.

We are what we are as a club.

A 2nd tier outfit.

I stupidly thought after last season we had cracked it. Our Sheffield United would go on and establish ourselves as a EPL club for years to come. Heck we may even get to Europe I felt. God how deluded I was.

We have had one season where we dreamed of something else...Our club was relevant, respected at the top level but poof it has lasted barely a moment. Even the Bassett teams stayed up for 4 seasons. This was meant to be different. We played good football, even spending money. This time it would be a new United.

We were thinking positive and not little old plucky United...muck o' nettles.

How stupid we were?

The sad part is the amazing run under Wilder and his affection for the club and the great era looks like it could be tainted with us being the worst Premier League team ever and one of the worst top flight teams for 90 years. Hope it somehow changes but looking bleak and us going in the record books for the wrong reasons.

I hoped Wilder would go as he going to a top club or back even England. This way could be a horrible way for it all to end and as great as the 4 years were before ..this year as it stands will be how much of Wilder and SUFC are remembered.

Maybe I should expect better and should not settle for what we are. Yet, this time I am not going to be fooled again. I am accepting us for what we are. A champ (old 2nd div team) who occasionally has the odd season in the 3rd or 1st tier.

Maybe this is a negative way of thinking but without huge investment we are not even capable of doing a Burnley or a Stoke at the moment.

I'm not going to get worked up one way or the other. Despite what I said above abput the legacy being tainted I have had a great 4 years and never thought that would happen 6/7 years ago when stuck in League One.

Maybe the club needs to take stock and properly rebuild with a new Academy/Training ground and seeking further investment so we can come back to this league stronger next time. The trouble with this adventure was it was all about Wilder and him getting the best out of a system and individuals who let's be honest have never played and mist never will play at this level again if we go down. We need some substance to us if we are ever going to do better than 1 or 2 seasons and out or like Wolves and Leicester major investment.

Above may seem negative but how I feel this morning and yes I know we are not down but the reality is we have one foot in the champ (not on the gap between teams bit the fact we can't score, let alone win and now play better teams in the lead up to Xmas).

If we can't or won't compete with our wage structure then we may just as well accept that we realistically are no more than a top half Championship club, offering maybe a brief flirtation with the rich boys in the Premiership.
All is not lost yet though, plenty of points to play for so who knows what will happen. It's just as every dreary weekend goes by we leave ourselves with a steeper hill to climb.
