used to pick it up after every game at the news agents at the top of Lydgate Lane...
married the girl serving behind the counter, and we're still together 30 years later with 3 more Blades
shame t'interweb weren't around 30 years ago, I'd be single & rich ;)

Just seen last nights Star and they had a big article on the Green UN. Part of it included 4 four front page headlines from past editions. Out of the all the headlines they had to pick from over the years two of them were Blades Down and Hagan sent of at Lane. One of the others was Hirst Class return. I know we can get a bit paranoid at times over their apparent Wednesday bias but things like this does make you wonder.

Early 1980's and I was living in Manchester, not far from Maine road and the pub was full of City and United fans, most of them hooligans. I sat in the middle of this lot reading t'Green 'Un. One of them asked for a read and he sniggered and showed his mate the column on the front page titled "The Big Six" ie all the local teams who were all in the 3rd or 4th division at the time. Did I blush or what

In them days the Blades would have been in the Big Six for Footy Hoolies though , you should have had them on their toes before it got on-top init

they didn't "wanna know"

I can't agree that it's had its day and been overtaken by modern technology.

Mind, I still go to Central League games with a transistor radio and look out for the bloke on the Pavilion putting the scores up. :D

It's sad to see it go really, although it's had it's day with the Internet taking over.
I used to run down the local shop as a kid to get one if my Dad hadn't already got one.
It would be more enjoyable obviously if United had won,and if it was a City double with A Blades win and Pigs loss then happy days.
I used to look at the headline on the front, then straight to the back page to study the tables with all the local sides highlighted in bold print. Then it would be to the Blades pages and the letters page to read the latest sparring between Blades and pigs about the usual things we all used to argue about.
It was good also for the local leagues, although when I used to look for a report on Sheffield Club,it would seem to stop at half time...what happened in the second half....did the reporter take off to the pub or downed tools at 4 pm..and no league table for NCEL.
Used to like reading the 25 years ago page when it got to the '70's..and reading about TC and Woody and then Wendy would have been beaten again in the third tier in front of 8 thousand at the Rustbucket.
I think i remember reading that Woody used to have one sent out to the States.I've not bought one for a few years now,but it brings back good memories of being a young kid running down to the shop.

should have gone back when we were in the prem and city were in league one

used to love it but its long had its day and the star is such a shadow of its former self, i cant see that lasting much longer either, nor do i care!

in my youth the green un was the internet, it was the fastest way to get scores tables and reports

but like gas street lighters and ladies bustle frame welders their day is done

blades bury bury and currie too hot for liverpool remain in the memory bank though

Currie and Reece were the scorers in the 2-1 win at Anfield in April 1968 and there was a Curry and Rice headline but forgot what it was
