fantastic result today with ten men....great effort to the end.
I look above us in the table and I don't see anybody to fear including Bristol....the only thing that will cost us the season is ourselves.
WE MUST get a striker in this week as it is key to momentum......whilst I, like most blades, long for the goals of Evans..I can't really see him getting signed now with all the fuss.
To the board - we have a great chance this season don't fuck it up (please!)

"Consistency needed"....??

In the league we've won 4 games out of the last 5 and only conceded 1 goal. Looks pretty consistent to me. Performances have also been consistent - we've just not had the finishing touch.

If it wasn't for stupid fans overreacting to the irrelevant JPT loss and 0-0 draw against Crewe in the Cup, then there wouldn't really be any question of consistency.

Take out the first two game of the season and we have averaged over 2 points a game - again pretty consistent and if we keep that up we'll get 88 points this season which should be enough for automatic promotion.

All the nonsense and abuse thrown at Clough so far this season is a disgrace. He could be the best manager we'll ever have if the board back him and fans show an ounce of patience.

Unfortunately, the first two games of the season count. As do the defeats to Swindon, Chesterfield and Barnsley.

Some very good points made there.

JPT - just a different type of midfield - NC knew he could have played a team to win - he rested a few.
Crewe last week - we were fantastic in our ability to keep the ball.
First two games - we all know NC was making a point that HE was the boss.
Chesterfield away - the ref won them that game - CH SHOULD have gone.
Barnsley - good control - never deserved to lose.

We have two forwards, and are trying to bring someone in.

3 Home games to come against tricky opposition - a good test - 7 points and we are cooking on gas - 9 points and it's asking the question of who goes u pwith us.

Keep the faith.

Of course they count - which means we have some credit in the bank then - although think we used some of that up today, but still plenty left.

yes they do count, that's what a season of 46 games is, you win some, you lose some, you draw some - and if over the course of the season you can come somewhere near averaging 2 points a game then you'll be in with a good shout of promotion.

The OP was asking for some consistency, and I would say since the 19th of August we've been pretty consistent, especially during the last 5 league games, even 6 if you count the Orient game performance.

AND we haven't even hit top form yet.

All in all we're ticking along nicely and as Clough said if we can be in touching distance by January we'll have a real chance.

What we don't need is fans constantly trying to find anything they can to beat Clough with, come up with stupid nick names for him, ring up Radio Sheffield and question whether he should be in the job etc. after everything he has done for this club in just 12 months.

Keep it up Cloughie, and well done on a win full of character today.

Shows how piss poor this league is this season, we've not been consistent, not had a recognised striker in or on form for a year plus handling all the off field crap and we can still go joint second.

If we don't pull the stops out, sort the Ched crap out and get out of this poxy league this time round we never will

its worth repeating Nigels had to rebuild from scratch , you cant win every game with what is a new squad

Bristol City swindon and Preston all had more stable squads , carrying on from last season , we re up there 1 win behind them with a completely new squad feeling its way into the league, We lost a very tight game to bristol , if wed won that wed be joint top now , so we arent far away
Needs some tweeks , course it does , but we are in it, and 3 home games up coming to build on

Of course they do. In the next 32 games plenty of wins and defeats will count, including those for global titans Bristelona and Bayern Preston.

Do you not think our 9 wins count Nuddy or are you all about the moan?

A big well done to Nigel and the Wizards today. Dominated huge percentage of the game, came through a bit of adversity, and won with ten men in a local derby.

This team and this manager have character in plenty. We are very well placed and still an improving work-in-progress. There are good times ahead, whatever the NBWs might say (or not say - they tend to disappear don't they?).

What I like about football, and that means ALL football is as a season progresses, you can see teams "grow" into a season.

We are doing just that - getting stronger, dominating possession, defence is looking more sound now

I take my hat off to Rotherham last season as they did just the same, started slowly got into the top six, won home games and didn't lose away much..........except to our KIDS. Just to remind amny lurking toytown fans " We're playing our kids, We're playing our kids....you must be so crap, we're playing our kids" !! - seriously, well done last season RUFC.

we took a step backward in midweek v Walsall, but accept we can't play the "A" team each week. What we are showing is our proper A team is probably better than anything in this division.

We should push on from here and finish top of the tree..............slight reservation, this is not the scenario from my 47 years of watching United, but hey - why not?

I have a serious negative to moan about.

No football league show tonight, on which we must have surely been a featured match

Bastards!

Agreed, that is the beauty of football and more the reason not to sack managers frequently. It takes time to build a team, build cohesion, find out what players compliment each other all over the field - especially with a lot of new players.

Even the greatest managers need time. In the 1992-1993 season Manchester United were in 10th place after 15 games with just 21 points, hadn't won in 7 games, been knocked out of Europe, knocked out of the League Cup. It was Fergie's 6th year in charge. If this was today he would have been sacked, hounded out of the club on social media and fans would be calling him every name under the sun. Instead, he signs an inspiring forward, loses just two more games all season and wins the Premier League for the firs time and the rest is history.

Now I'm not saying we're Man United, or Clough is Fergie, but its amazing what a bit of patience, forward planning and good recruitment can do.

If we'd had lost today, we'd have been down in 9th. Ten points off Bristol City at the top, and ten points off the relegation places. We could have potentially been 13 points off the top if we'd lost and Bristol had won. What a difference a win makes.

Looking at the table tonight, automatic promotion is definitely on.

Im starting to fear for Coventry , after a decent start they are falling apart and a point off bottom 4 . and Orient just keep losing , I had them in 10 clubs , now its 8 clubs after 6 spots

Cloughies got a good side here, they play well together, they create numerous opportunities, but we're lacking severely in the box. Jamie Murphy is our key man at the moment but he is prone to a knock or two. Give young Adams a try, we need fresh blood .. we need goals !

Scougall, Wallace, Flynn, and Baxter will all return more goals as the season unfolds. So will Higdon and McNulty. So will Murphy.

We still need a striker though. Too early for Diego.

Porter was a bad re-signing, dare I say now that Clough is top man again.

Couldn't agree more Borbokisfreekick. Especially about the nonsense spoken about Clough. I really should start to save all the extraordinarily spiteful comments made about our manager. It's not a case of him not being able to look after himself, but these comments have no basis other than we've lost a game. Think about it, Sheffield United losing a game, unheard of! So every time we lose a game the gremlins come out and try to dissect Clough, but instead of considered, rational commentary, what we have are outbursts riddled with bile and aggression. I'm all for criticism, I sometimes wonder about the tactics employed by our management team, but what I realise with Clough is that we have a manager who not simply puts a shift in, but whose appreciation of what it'll take for this club to move forward is exactly what we've been missing.

By all means cast doubt on my views. We're in a first rate position, and that's with 30 games left to play. All the negatives I've read repeat the same line over and over, yet here we are, exactly where we need to be, we've not even entered the December programme, and we're in the top six. Yes, I'd like to see a proven goalscorer, but I guess for reasons outside of my awareness, it's just not happened yet. Just think for a moment, why wouldn't this club, under the managership of Nigel Clough, wish to remain in this division any longer than is necessary? This week has revealed gaping holes in the quality of decision making at the club. That's not Clough's fault, so please don't include him in any criticism you hand out.

Given the lack of apparent quality that seems to exist within our board of directors (you doubt me? There are meant to be canny businessmen involved in the running of this club who have shown a singular lack of nous about the whole Ched Evans affair. They say they felt overwhelmed by the deluge of media criticism. Perhaps they've become used to living in sleepy old Division One for far too long, maybe it's this that has blunted their edge. Maybe it's they who need to question just how relevant their skillsets are for a club who are meant to be ambitious. Do they have the desire to make signings that will impact on this club's ambitions? Or are their personal agendas satisfied by sitting in the directors box, necking a few G&T's on matchday, and basking in the glow of being a director of this club. If that's the extent of their ambition then I suggest we hold a cull, get rid of the hangers on, and replace them with people who can advance this club to where it belongs.
