Great corner!

Think it was probably mine too, was it the first season of the kop in its current form?
Yes it will have been, 91-92. Went to a few home games the season before too, including the last game stood on the kop, but this was my first proper one

Year before I was born but this is class 😍😍

We did this loads.

I'd imagine this wasn't the first time, more like the 20th or 30th.

It didn't always result in a goal, but it often got us into dangerous positions - and it always amazed me how the opposition played like they had never seen it.

We did something very similar against Norwich away in the FAC, a couple of years earlier, also under Harry.
We did it v Wolves to get promoted out of div 3. Harry will never get the credit he deserves from his time in management because it didn't suit the red top mantra that his teams were merely long ball hoof merchants and nowt more.

There was much more to it than that both on and off the field. The set up pieces I believe were largely Geoff Taylors remit.

His use of diet, sports science and sports psychology were unheard of in this country at the time.

My favourite on the pitch example was v Wendy away in the 3 - 1 battering when Simon Tracey threw the ball like Peter Schmichal to the full backs who then had acres of space as Wednesday were fully expecting the big kick from Tracey. That led to at least one goal that game. Wednesday scored via a deflected free kick and we're lucky to get that.

Yeah same here, had been to a few on the South stand, stood on the kop once or twice and stood in the John Street a few times, then when the kop opened we got season tickets, been there ever since with a few years hiatus when I started working on Saturdays

Can’t remember it but it was my first season as a ST holder having been to a couple of games the season before.

Bassett was well ahead of his time in many ways.

One other thing Bassett introduced for corners that I had never seen before: all of the players standing in a line, and then splitting apart as the corner came over. Loads of teams do this now. I always wonder whether Bassett "invented" it.

The West Ham corner routine in the clip was the first home game of the season, and the first time the seated Kop was open. I was stood on the John Street terrace (cheap student tickets!).

And 91/92 was still our best full season in the top flight in last 40 years. 19/20 could have been if wed played a full season and not glorified training matches.

12 minutes in

What a match. Great highlights. What was Brian Gayle doing in the last minute. He made some right howlers that lad.
Jostein Flew?

Thanks for that, I haven't seen a lot of the goals back from that year since United decided in their wisdom not to release a VHS season review. It always rankled that there was a gap in my collection

I got my youth team to practice it, but the other players hadn't seen it on tv and didn't grasp how brilliant it could be. We couldn't get it right in training and I don't think we ever tried it in a match.
