Left winger at Plymouth. Has 6 goals to his name already this season and just been named in the FL team of the week. Skilful, a long throw and free kick specialist.

Could he be the Jamie Murphy replacement?

Just been reading a few news reports about him. Sounds a really exciting talent based on his performances this season. And only on a one year deal, so would come cheap.

But, on the downside, seems to have had a very patchy career after offering loads of promise as a young player.

Who knows though? - maybe he's taken off at Plymouth (under an understanding manager who's getting the best out of him) - he's certainly scoring goals now like never before.

Tbh, these sorts of players - performing at consisrently high levels in Divisions 3 & 4 - are just the sorts I'd hope we're keeping tabs on. We should be signing more from our own division & the division below, & fewer faded, disillusioned players taking a step down.

Carey can play on the left or right side of midfield or as a striker. He is very direct at the full backs, a free kick and long throw specialist and his crossing has been described as "unbelievable".[10] While at St Mirren, Carey was used as a left back and as a wing back on the left side.[65]

Yep, he's one I'd like us to go for. Left sided, attacking midfielder but versatile, productive in terms of goals and assists, decent age. Out of contract too. Also might want to move further north being from Scotland.

I know Carey's been mentioned before by our fans as a possible signing but he's just had a great season for Plymouth and can play left mid/wing back, which would be good competition for Laferty as well as behind the forwards. On a free this summer, since he's out of contract, what do people think?

Personally I'd always thought that although he sounds decent it was always going to be a step up that maybe he wouldn't adjust too but with him been able to play a few positions and with it been a free, and at 27 a good age where if he does well we might be able to keep him (as opposed to younger when he will have moire suitors), then maybe its worth a gamble.

He could've easily left them last summer but was loyal and stayed to get them promoted, and he's done that. Fair play to him.

He's had his third excellent season in a row, and I doubt there's a better player in L2.

He should probably be looking at the Championship now at his age, but I'm not sure we should go for him. Great left foot, versatile, productive... but I'm not sure he would play regularly.

Aye, that's my understanding but I think we need to get that position nailed on for next season and someone of Maddison's quality is required. Carey would be the cheap option but his versatility to play left mid or even left wing back that appeals as it means we can have a tighter and smaller squad.

He can play more than on the wing mate - see above posts. Duffy had played mainly on the wing until we played him behind the front two.

I suggested him for the last couple of seasons along with the likes of Marshall. Same questions about whether he'd still be a good signing at championship level.
