Player Suggestion Graham Carey

my only worry is you seem to be talking as if he would be a handy squad player in midfield. I want to see some quality players brought in good enough to be in the first team all the time, not jack of all trades, master of none!

He's not a jack of all trades master of none to be fair. He has played as a winger at Plymouth but as I said re Duffy I'm sure he is equally adaptable to play behind the front two. Its been a few season's since he's played left back or left wing but he is left footed and we do need squad players too we can't afford a team of £1m plus players and maybe Carey will turn out to be a million plus signing.

You could stick Done anywhere and he do you a job, but do you still want him next season. We need a few quality players, we don't know what money is going to be made available. The Prince and Macabe might want to go for it while the club is all as one. We will have to wait and see.

It wouldn't be a normal day without another attacking midfielder being linked.

Rumours in Plymouth that Carey is on his way to us. Forum chatter for the most part, so nothing to get excited about just yet...

I like Carey. Good if true but as you say early days.

Very tempting free transfer.

But would it be right to sign him if we're also signing Holmes?

Both can play centrally and wide, but neither are that quick and if we didn't sign any other wide options we'd be lacking in that department a bit. We'd certainly solve the set piece taker problem though.

And would it make sense to sign O'Shea if we were signing Carey? And also keep Duffy and Carruthers?

We look like potentially gathering a large number of attacking midfielders.

I can't see Holmes and another attacking mid coming. Carey seems a great free to me but I like Holmes too. I'd still take Maddison over both though!

I reckon money might scupper Maddison, especially with the other two available....

Carey is available on a free transfer every pre season as the Plymouth boss only gives out 1 year contracts as they work to a very tight budget. So nothing new on that score.

Doubt this one will happen as I just don't see him being good enough for the championship. Carey is a decent lower league level player and we've moved on.

Holmes on the other hand would be an 'elementary' signing to my mind and would solve many a case of stubborn defences next season.

14 goals 16 assists this season, can take a set piece, free transfer, wages probably not to high, sounds like a risk worth taking.

Anyone know if this website is reliable? Wilder did say he wanted two wingers, if so that means we might be signing three players from League two which is heroic and the type that are hungry and have succeeded at their clubs. That's Enda Stevens, Nathan Thomas and Carey, 4 if you say Ched currently plays for a now League 2 club!

Signing a left sided winger in Thomas can only make this less likely.

But there's a possibility that if we're thinking about spending on Oztumer just for the central role, we could choose to take Carey on a free instead. Then maybe put the money towards a right winger.

Do you think Wilder could be signing Thomas to play Duffys role Ricky not seen him live but bits on YouTube he looks two footed pops up on both sides tricky has an eye for a pass pace scores goals he struggled with injuries for the second half of the season otherwise Hartlepool probably wouldn't be relegated.

I think Thomas is more of an out and out winger and second striker rather than someone who can be influential in Duffy's position.

Maybe he could play there in the future but there's no way Wilder will have him in mind as our first choice in that 10 position, it would be a massive ask of a young kid from Hartlepool. He will have primarily been signed as a wide option - probably the same role Chapman had.

I'm certain that our business isn't yet completed as far as central attacking midfield options go. I'm thinking now that Carey might be an alternative to O'Shea. Being on a free transfer it's more feasible that he'd be an alternative option than someone like Oztumer who'd cost a decent fee.

Plymouth fans still reckon that he's moving to 'a Sheffield club'.

Also said that he was a target had we not got Nathan Thomas. Seems a weird one for Wednesday, so all a bit odd.

So in the space of a few days the Pigs are interested not only in Holmes but also Carey?! I thought that Leagues One and Two were the Pub leagues, or has something changed?!

Just heard from a Plymouth supporting mate that we are on the verge of signing Carey. I can't say i know anything about him (other than what's on the www).

Will be an alternative to Holmes. I don't think we'd sign them both as Carey doesn't play on the right.

This has been rumoured at Plymouth for weeks but then it went really quiet. I'd be pleased with this if true. Wilder did say he wanted two wingers so Carey and Thomas could be these which means we still have a space for an attacking mid which could be Holmes. Or Holmes is one of the wingers and we want Carey or Thomas behind the front two etc. Either way, signing Carey might not be the end of interest in Holmes.

Gagey just posted this move is on!!
