Goran Slavkovski in on loan

I would be very surprised if this kid sees much first team action and i'm definately in the 'no more srtikers' camp.

This smacks of a PR exercise to me.

I'm confused about the "no more strikers" business.

We've got 5 strikers on the books at the minute...

Beattie - Class, always looks like scoring.
Sharp - Hasn't scored a goal and has missed some good chances.
Shelton - Never going to be good enough.
Hulse - Missing too many chances, can't blame match fitness now.
Stead - Arguably the best striker we have, his movement, first touch, and finishing are all impressive.

So from that, I would say bringing in another striker is needed, I hope he can do well and bag a few goals for us because Inter don't seem to want to get rid of him.

From the Star...

GORAN Slavkovski, Sheffield United's latest addition, will become one of the most sought-after strikers on the planet, according to Internazionale manager Roberto Mancini.
Slavkovski, whose arrival has paved the way for Danny Webber to join Crystal Palace, will initially complete a loan agreement with Bryan Robson's side before signing a permanent contract in the summer.

And The Star understands that the 18-year-old could be the first of several promising young talents to make the journey from the Serie A champions to South Yorkshire after a United representative travelled to Milan last month to cement a relationship which first blossomed when Mancini's side played a friendly with Sheffield FC at Bramall Lane in November.

Slavkovski, who had also been courted by Middlesbrough, will miss tomorrow's Championship fixture at Colchester because of a minor injury.

But Robson hopes he could be declared fit by the time United face his former club in the FA Cup fifth round later this month.

Despite being a relative unknown in England, Slavkovski enjoys a formidable reputation in Italy after becoming the youngest player to make a first-team appearance for Inter.

Mancini predicts that the Swedish-born Macedonian has the potential to become the "world's best player".

But reluctantly he sanctioned his departure because he believes that he is better suited to the British game.

United have agreed to pay Inter a loan fee and are understood to have already struck a deal involving a sell-on clause rather than another payment at the end of the season.

Palace expect to unveil Webber at a press conference next Thursday and the move is expected to become permanent when the season ends.

Webber going to Palace? I hope that isn't true.

As for this player, I've never heard of him so can't comment, and will not do so until I see him play. I'd like to say I trust Robbo's Judgement but......

:| Are you serious?

:| Are you serious?

I can see Daz's point with this to be honest. I don't see Shelton much as a striker if I'm honest, his shooting his poor and he isn't very good at staying onside, his runs off the ball is poor.

But boy can he run at players. I think he should be tried in another position, perhaps in an attacking midfield role, or even on a wing where he has the freedom to do a bit of damage.

:| Are you serious?

Yes I'm 100% serious.

He's not good enough to be a striker, he's not intelligent enough, doesn't know when or where to make a run, he's got blinkers on which was proved on Tuesday night on about 4 occassions, his finishing is quite poor and his passing is too inaccurate.

He's lightning quick and can't half run at players, but as a striker - not good enough.

Whilst I agree with your assessment of Shelton, I have to take exception on your overall point here.

First of all, to suggest that a player can be back to full match fitness in a single month following a double leg fracture and a 6 month lay-off is a very naïve. Rob Hulse has done fantastically well to return to first team action so quickly but I would suggest that it will be another couple of months before he is fully match fit. I agree he has missed a lot of chances lately and not looked the player from last season but you have to give him the benefit of the doubt and I am confident that he will start firing on all cylinders for the run in.

Sharp has scored a lot of goals at league 1 level and whilst the goals haven’t come this season, I would argue that his clear cut chances can be counted on a single hand. It is frustrating that he hasn’t scored but I still believe he can be a success and until he starts missing 4 or 5 chances a game I refuse to change my opinion.

Stead is an all round solid player and should have played more this season, he never lets us down and I’m hopeful he will get a run in the side.

Beatties goal record speaks for itself, especially when you consider the fact that we are creating very little and confidence is on the floor.

Webber is more then capable at this level.

So, whilst the strikers are not scoring at this moment in time; I put it to you that this is not down to a lack of ability but has more to do with the lack of chances and confidence that is effecting the team this season. I would also suggest that ANY striker would struggle to score goals for us with the way we are playing at the moment.

We have 5 players that are each capable of scoring 15 goals at this level and so bringing in another one, when our midfield continues to under-perform, is very disappointing in my eyes.

Shelton - Never going to be good enough.

With Beattie coming back from injury I'd like to see Shelton go out on loan somewhere so he can get some proper match practice in.

I also hope it's not true about Webber. We all know what he can do at this level and it's only really because of injury that he hasn't had more chances to play.

I agree that Hulse has done very well to get back to where he is now, but surely if he's not match fit yet he shouldn't be playing? After all, if he's not going to be ready for another 2 months then another striking option is the answer until we can be sure Hulse is back to being 100%. He needed more time in the reserves in my opinion, or even just easing him back in with sub appearances rather than continuous starts like he has had lately. Reading back I can understand what I said sounded harsher on him than it was meant to be.

Sharp has scored alot in lower level, but to me the way he's being asked to play for us he is out of his depth. He's a box player, but he's not being used that way and when he does get a chance they are not the type of chances he thrives on, but another striker with different abilities could probably have taken them, ie. Stead. Again, I can see it does seem quite harsh what I said, I didn't really go into enough detail as to what I meant. I do have the belief he can do well for us but until he is used correctly I can't see him scoring.

I do think we needed another midfielder aswell, so I am disappointed not to see one arriving but I've no complaints at signing a striker at this precise moment when we have alot of players that are unfit or out of form. It also gives the players out of form another incentive to get back and prove themselves to the manager aswell.

Hopefully, we will use the loan system to bring in a creative midfielder in the next few weeks because there's no doubt we're crying out for one, but only time will tell.

so as I understand it, we have him on loan till the end of the season, then he will move on a free transfer, but obviously inter have a sell on clause included in the free transfer?

Crikey, didn't realise it was set to become permanent! Good work Mr Robson
Looking forward to seeing this kid play, although no doubt some fans will get on his back if he doesn't score a hat-trick on his debut

I agree with pretty much everything that you have said and if it is true that Webber is moving on I suppose I can see some logic behind the signing of this kid; my problem is that yet again the midfield has not been suitably tended to despite it being acknowledged as the problem area.

People will say that Speed and Martin have arrived and both are good players but a creative force through the centre of the park is still missing and Speed is a stop-gap solution at best. It is also widely acknowledged that the type of midfielder that we need is not readily available; the flurry of transfer activity during the widow at other clubs has seen potential targets move elsewhere (Norris, Buzaky, Da Silva) and so what was slim pickings before is even worse now.

I also question the logic of the inter manager letting a player go for nothing that has the potential to become the best player in the world; sounds like spin to me.

Im looking forward to see him play for us. Sounds promising.

Only a hatrick I expect him to have scored that mant in the first 10 Minutes he's on the pitch and just as many every 10 minutes afterwards

Completely agree to be honest.

I am however not disputing he has potential as I don't know the type of player he is. But it would seem rather foolish allowing him to go for a nominal loan fee and free transfer if he is going to be the worlds best.

I'm not one to judge players before seeing them play so i am by no means writing this player off; but i have seen enough overseas players come and fail to know not to get my hopes up just yet.

I'm not having his name put on me shirt! It'll cost an arm and a leg.

It probably won't fit on my shirt :D
Last season i wanted Montgomery on my shirt but it wouldn't fit so i had Monty put on it instead :D :D

It's not that it wouldn't fit, it's that we know you'd rather spend the money down the pub....:drunk::D

"I agree that Hulse has done very well to get back to where he is now, but surely if he's not match fit yet he shouldn't be playing?"

Is this not down to the manager then? or is it the crouds fault for not giving support :D:D:D

If he's being let to us then coming on a free, described as going to be one of the best in the world, why are they letting him go, why arnt teams like man utd, barca etc sniffing round him?

Hope he dosent dive alot coming from italy! :D:D
