I will keep this short as I don't want to come across like I am just after "likes" or attention.
My grandad Ken passed away Saturday morning, quietly, hopefully with no pain, in his sleep. He was the first person who took me to a game, the first person to get me a season ticket and even with all the help from my dad probably the reason I'm a blade today.
He was a lovely old bloke, other than the Germans he liked everyone. Funny, daft, extremely caring and loving and above all else a colossal yoo-ni-tedite -as he would say.
He would have loved the game on Sunday and while I wish he could have seen us get promoted this season I'm sure he saw some fantastic games in his life time.
My favorite memory is when I bugged him to let me run on the pitch, as the fans held Alan Kelly in the air after our penalty shoot out win against Coventry.
United fillied an even bigger hole in his life when my nan died around 15 years ago, although we've probably declined as a team since then having united in his life gave him purpose and something to look forward to every Saturday.
This isn't a sad post although it is still really raw.
Its a pointless thankyou on a forum he wouldnt even understand but it's something I wanted to do.
Night grandad (and like we finished every phone call, text, birthday card and sometimes even conversation)
UP THE BLADES!

Rip Ken

It's the funny thing about football, yeah it's a sport, but, it's so much more to so many.
I see countless older people at matches, they tell the stories of it being the highlight of their week, the only time some of them get any meaningful human contact and possibly the only bit of happiness they have.
Obviously this wasn't the case for Ken as he had a loving family around him, but it really makes you think!
We are united, we are a family, and as it's "Christmas", just think on when your next sat in your seat watching the wizards getting another 3 points!, you might be sat next to one of these people, and just take the time to speak to them, they are after all the same as you and me, they're blades!
RIP KEN!
Sorry for your loss, but congratulations on your memories!

R.I.P. Ken and God bless you and your family. Stay strong for them and when the time is right for you all, talk about your Grandad and think back on all the happy times you've shared together. They never really leave you.

If the internet had been invented ,I could have wrote that almost word for word 45 years ago. Nice one UTB

Family ties with an added, strong red and white one is something many of us have. My Dad is another cut from the same cloth as your Grandad. He rarely gets to a game now due to age and health, but we talk after every game and he will give me his opinion on any highlights he's seen. I know already this will leave a big hole when he's not with us anymore, but also many memories and a legacy now with my kids.

Condolences on your loss, treasure the memories.

On the flip side of that, I bet your glad he didn't have to witness David Weir's time at the lane!
Condolences for your grandfather though, rip.

My Grandad introduced me to SUFC, taking me to reserve games at first, to get used to the noise and the crowds. If it wasn't for him I might have missed TC, Woody, and the other greats that we still talk about today.

Lovely tribute from you to your Grandad pal.

UTB.

Everybody called Ken is a top Blade - even if it's not your real name ;)

My Grandad and Grandma used to take me to the Lane when I was a nipper - holding onto the White railings on the Jonn Street terrace to watch the mighty Blades. He died 38 years ago.

Anyway, RIP Ken

There's not enough Ken's in the World

Bless you Ken, and all Grandads and Dads who pass down their love of this wonderful football club. Managers, players and Chairmen come and go but only the supporters stay; they are the lifeblood of the club, together with the history and the ground that goes with it. If there isn't yet a brick in the wall at the Lane with Ken's name on it I hope there soon will be one. My Grandad was born in 1889 and travelled on a "sharrer" to the Wembley final in 1925. My Dad was 6 and very disappointed he wasn't allowed to go with him. He's now 97 and barely able to see but was thrilled to watch the Blades victory on Sky this Sunday. If we get what we richly deserve come the next time we meet Chesterfield there'll be tears of joy in the eyes of me, my Dad and my son, and I promise to tip my hat to both my Grandad and to Ken in thanks for the precious memories they bring to us. As for my Grandson, at 6 years old he wears an Owls badge in alliance with his Mum....... but we all know what can happen when lads start playing football with Dad don't we?

Really sorry about your loss.

I lost both grandads years ago but they were both Wednesdayites so no shared memories there. My paternal grandad used to rib me about United and as a kid it bloody hurt.

Miss the old buggers though.
