Sorry to hear that.
It reminded me of my Grandad, a staunch supporter of the S6 unclean until he gave in to me being a Blade and buying us both season tickets for many years up in the Lane end before it was designated for away fans.
I doubt I could ever do the reverse....for anybody!

I will keep this short as I don't want to come across like I am just after "likes" or attention.
My grandad Ken passed away Saturday morning, quietly, hopefully with no pain, in his sleep. He was the first person who took me to a game, the first person to get me a season ticket and even with all the help from my dad probably the reason I'm a blade today.
He was a lovely old bloke, other than the Germans he liked everyone. Funny, daft, extremely caring and loving and above all else a colossal yoo-ni-tedite -as he would say.
He would have loved the game on Sunday and while I wish he could have seen us get promoted this season I'm sure he saw some fantastic games in his life time.
My favorite memory is when I bugged him to let me run on the pitch, as the fans held Alan Kelly in the air after our penalty shoot out win against Coventry.
United fillied an even bigger hole in his life when my nan died around 15 years ago, although we've probably declined as a team since then having united in his life gave him purpose and something to look forward to every Saturday.
This isn't a sad post although it is still really raw.
Its a pointless thankyou on a forum he wouldnt even understand but it's something I wanted to do.
Night grandad (and like we finished every phone call, text, birthday card and sometimes even conversation)
UP THE BLADES!
Sorry for your loss mate, I am of an age when we realise that life is too short and we won't be around for ever.I hope that I am leaving some happy memories behind for my kids and grandkids like your grandad did. While ever you and your family think of him ,he will never be far away. Good luck

Hope he's up there giving a right earful to the footballing god's.

R.I.P

He will have been in the stand reserved for Blades fans watching with other past Blades.

RIP GD

Us Blades are made of stern stuff, something that nobody will ever knock out of us no matter how hard they try. It will get better FTPE, that I have no doubt, until then stay strong, safe and above all keep the spirits as high as they possibly can. Now I know this might be hard and I didn't even know the fella but i'm pretty sure he'd be wanting you to do exactly that, he seemed a top bloke just from that one post.

R.I.P. Granddad Blade Ken.

My Dad, My Grandad both great Blades God Bless Em. Both would of loved yesterdays game. That is a top post FTPE keep your chin up Son. RIP your Grandad UP THE BLADES

Really sorry for your loss, sad news.

RIP

A beautiful tribute FTPE. Your Grandad did a great job showing you the way. UTB.

RIP Ken.

Sorry for you loss pal.

It was my Grandad who got me in to being a Blade more than most. It was also thanks to him that i nearly got knocked unconscious at 8 year old after he told me to duck under the turnstile at Bramall Lane and it swang round and hit me flush in the side of the head at a pre-season friendly v Seville, and he was the bloke who used to be able to spend hours waxing lyrical about Jimmy Hagan. Miss the old bugger.

Keep remembering your Grandad mate - sounds like he was a gem of a bloke.

And a true Blade.

RIP.

RIP Ken.

Sounds like you'll always have a nice positive memory whenever you are prompted to think about him.

Thinking of you and your family at this sad time.

It reminds me of when my Grandad passed away too. He was in hospital. It sounded like he'd have to have his leg amputated. I'd been to see him on the Saturday afternoon and at the same time listened to the United match vs Leeds on his crackly bedside radio. I was only about ten. I said to him I think we've scored Grandad. Mel Eves! He smiled. It was the last time I saw him. He didn't have to have his leg done.

RIP Grandads xx

This from Blade56.

It's always very sad when any Blade passes away and the last two years or so have been especially distressing due to the unexpected passing of some great Unitedites who have died well before their time.

FTPE - Your tribute to your Grandad is wonderful and moving, I'm sure he'd be proud of you for writing that and sharing your thoughts with us all.

Also as touching is the response from the members on here. I know from first hand experience of how their messages of support helped me during a dark time last year. Great people.

God bless Ken and Up the Blades.

I will wrap this thread up now but I agree with you 100%. I've had condolences come in left right and center but none have been as touching as the ones from all the Blades on here. In a way it felt even more meaningful that I don't know most of you but we all share the same bond. It really makes the club feel like an extended family.
Thankyou from the bottom of my heart. I've never been so proud to be a Blade.

Up at Hutcliffe Wood burying my grandad today too. Another Blade. Already reached the point where there's more funerals than weddings.
So sorry for both your losses. It never comes easy. U.T.B.
