I suspect you've been playing a bit too much Football Manager sunshine. Out of interest, did you spot any CBs currently playing in the Angolan league while you were on there that Utd should perhaps be scouting?
don't play football manager as i said its speculation never said it was true

I would like an experienced keeper to sign as back up to Moore...

Reasons being if Moore gets injured you dont want to throw a young player in at the deep end.

Also an older keeper with his last year or so up for grabs should be tempted to come here & play second fiddle & secure a coaching position. ( and help coach Moore)

Shay Given or someone of his class would be a good shout.

I genuinely don't get why people think we should sign Shay Given. He's 41 years old and, apart from a few games, where he's hardly covered himself in glory, has barely played in the last two seasons. It's a no from me.

I see it a little different but get your point, but depends of you're looking for someone to compete for number one. I think we should be looking for a backup doesn't play hardly at all but can help bring on Moore. He's an international team mate of stearman and I think he would be good for the dressing room.

given he's fallen out of favour and hasn't played in their first team for a bit i wouldn't mind Adam Federici from bournemouth did well at Reading a few years ago

Federici is good shout. 32 years old, established professional. Only got a couple of games in the cup last season - Bournemouth have 4 keepers in their main squad and another 5 in the U23s!

I would rather us go with a good young goalkeeper up and coming to buy or on loan.

We can always use the emergency loan system and get an experienced goalkeeper on loan if required.

Wrong....we need someone who can push Moore and keep him on his toes. ..he didn't have that last year, especially after Rammers left and he looked a bit complacent at times. Don't forget he wasn't deemed good enough by Championship Cardiff....just because we won the League at a canter doesn't give everyone a free pass...Moore for me is a capable keeper but he's nowt special and really needs pushing to stay at the top of his game...because that is exactly where he will need to be.

Whilst I agree with your point, I believe an experienced keeper would do that. The problem with signing competition is that whoever isn't playing will suffer and probably be unhappy. If you sign a 30+ experienced keeper, you generally get someone that can step in with a pair of safe hands and one who wouldn't be out of place as your no.1.

Some good league 1 keepers have moved for free this year.

Etheridge
Smith
Daniels

Can't help feel like we could have had a look at some of these to solve the keeper issue give ramsdale went in jan. Unless there is a definite upgrade on Moore we are after?

Wonder if Bentley will be available at Brentford now Daniels has gone there - seem to remember him being fairly highly rated.

Maybe we won't bother. We can get a back up, some old keeper who's almost past it but that could then stop us getting and emergency loan if Moore was injured. Potentially, we could get a better keeper on emergency loan.

Another alternative would be (if these rules still apply) getting a young keeper on loan but letting him continue to play for his parent club's u23s. He can warm our bench on match days but still keep playing regularly.

Bentley cost Brentford £750k. I'm sure he's worth a lot more now.

Wouldn't we hold the player's registration and therefore he wouldn't be allowed to play for his parent club's U23s? I genuinely don't know to be honest.

A young keeper on loan would need to be either our No. 1 or your idea of the parent club U23s. No Premier League club in their right mind would loan out a keeper to play U23s for us and warm our bench.

This is from last season. As I said, I don't know if it still applies.

  • Clubs are permitted to sign a goalkeeper on a seven-day ‘emergency loan’ basis if they do not have a senior goalkeeper that has made five first-team apps
  • Clubs will be able to recall a goalkeeper at 24 hours’ notice from a loan at another club if they are unable to field two fit goalkeepers in their 18-man matchday squad.
  • A player registered on a standard loan may continue to play non-first team football for his parent club during the term of his loan period.

Don't we have the tequirement to have one recent home grown lad in the matchday squad?

If not Eastwood, then who?

i doubt any of our players on that wage and i reckon 30k is the standard wage at preston, if we can convince him to sign as back up we should be able to convince him to drop to about 15/20k a week he is 33 and might not get many/if any other offers, purely speculation

Surely you're joking. Lindegaard was on 10k a week with us and that's the top of our pay scale. Most players are supposedly on 5-8k.

Lindegaard was terrible and there is a reason why he's spent most of his career sat on the bench.

He's not joking - he's deadly serious. Just shows how way out of touch with reality some fans are.

Danny Ward has gone back to Liverpool after a great season with Huddersfield but will only be 3rd or 4th choice, would be a great signing if we could somehow find the money to pay his wages for 12 months.

How about Andy Warrington- ex Rotherham keeper. Similar age and would be cheaper?

I'm sure I read somewhere that he was likely to be completing with Mignolet now. Bogdan is off to Forest and Karius is been dire.

Having played a major part in winning promotion for the Terriers, I can't see him been happy in a Championship reserve team potentially playing no games all season.

The only way we'd get him would be to offer the starting berth ahead of Moore.

Which I don't think would be fair on Moore. Deserves a chance in the championship.

Dropping him for a loan player would be stupid IMO. If we can sign better on a permanent it's a no brainer but I'd only use the loan option if he looks shit in our early games.
