I’ve just been watching the highlights of the 1974 match with Everton and and it brought back to me how good the goalkeepers kits looked back in the day. Proper club colours apart from the obvious change of shirt but how good did they look.
Can anyone remember why and when we changed to the garish kits of today? I’d love to see a return to proper team kits for goalies.
I can remember there being a choice of green, blue and sometimes just occasionally, red shirts and yellow for international duties. Our keepers always seemed to wear green shirts but I think Sprake at leeds wore a blue one regularly but they were always with the proper team shorts and socks.
I‘m guessing it’s a commercial thing to flog more socks and shorts to the kids.
