Watching the Wolves v WBA game and they don’t seem arsed about the new rules. I wonder if anyone will call them out on it?
I'm old enough to remember when footballers hugging and whatever was felt to be effete nonsense only practised by Latin Americans, Spaniards and the odd Italian. Whilst I wouldn't want to return to those days, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect extremely highly paid and visible people to show perhaps a bit of restraint. I don't expect footballers to be role models but neither do I want them to effectively put 2 fingers up at those of us who are keeping to the rules just because they seem to be allowed to. I feel the same about politicians and their hangers on who break the rules.Load of nonsense for show.
Pandering, nothing else.
If people can't see that it's a pointless gesture based on the rest of the game, then I give up.
The argument that the rest of society can't hug or touch really is pathetic frankly. Should those of us who live with family stop hugging or holding hands if out because it sends the wrong message.
I'm absolutely convinced there is now a frightening number of people who have hardly any limits as to what they would happily accept as reasonable in the fight against Covid.
No matter how ridiculous the suggestion people queue up to say things like 'well if it saves a life'
Sorry I find it all unnecessary. Football has been back for around 6 months in total and this has only just become an issue.I'm old enough to remember when footballers hugging and whatever was felt to be effete nonsense only practised by Latin Americans, Spaniards and the odd Italian. When you look at the sacrifices made by many in the past 10 months, including possibly 100,000 dead by the end of January, asking footballers to "rein it in a bit" isn't exactly a lot to ask.
If you think this is a bit extreme, consider the fact that as I type this, nearly 88,000 people in this country have died due to Covid in 10 months. In the almost SIX YEARS of WW2, about 70,000 civilians died in the UK. Over half of those were killed in the various Blitzes in 1940.
Just a thought.
Ok Davalon, I'm quite an objective person and do my best not to rant (not good for my health, mental or physical!). I hug my wife every day too, and I hug my son when I see him (he's in our bubble). I can't hug my daughter, 6 month old grandson (or son-in-law, who's a lovely bloke and not averse to a hug!) because they live 120 miles away and meeting wouldn't be right at the moment. I think that my feelings and emotions for my family and friends should be stronger than the "urge" to hug after a goal is scored, and if I (and millions of others) can put a physical need to hug and be together on hold for a bit (and believe me, I'd rather not), why can't footballers?? Are they "special", entitled, are they just thick??Sorry I find it all unnecessary. Football has been back for around 6 months in total and this has only just become an issue.
The players aren't putting two fingers up to anyone by celebrating, just like I'm not putting two fingers up to vulnerable people by hugging my wife every day.
If it was about safety then the game would be stopped because of the close contact throughout the game.
It's effectively virtue signalling because people have decided it's unfair and upsetting to people who can't look at it objectively. Football is just worried about pressure being put on them to postpone the season.
If it was genuinely to take pressure off the NHS I would support halting the season. But it's not. It's just a pointless gesture for show.

I respect the difficulties people are experiencing. I see it around me every day.Ok Davalon, I'm quite an objective person and do my best not to rant (not good for my health, mental or physical!). I'm not saying that footballers are putting two fingers up at people, but that a lot of people will see them (and some politicians) doing what they do and think "f**k it, the rules don't apply to them so why the f**k should they apply to me?".
This is a complex and difficult situation, and actually it would be good for football to carry on, because it gives loads of us an "outlet" and some limited enjoyment of the game we love, but for it to continue, the players and managers need to have a bit of a look at themselves.
Oh, and I'm a very long way from being a snowflake or "virtue signaller" (I'm not actually sure what one of those is!).
Cheers, UTB.
The attitude towards children during this from a lot of people has disappointed and angered me.I think we may in some ways be on the same side!! I'm not a libertarian, but I worry that when we come out the other side the government may use restrictions in a more overtly political way. I work in children's social care, and the government has already had a bit of a go at some of the safeguards for very vulnerable children and young people. But for now my worry is about the people who won't accept anything now, and think Covid is a bit of a laugh, a conspiracy, or something that only affects people who aren't like them.

Absolutely. Look after yourself mate! The attitude towards children during this from a lot of people has disappointed and angered me.
I've withdrawn from conversing with some friends on social media due to their children can suck it up and stop moaning approach.
Children are often vulnerable and things that happen in that time can cause issues for life. I'm an example of that.
We have a friend who's a child psychiatrist and it's really worrying some of the things she's told us since the middle of last year.
You too.Absolutely. Look after yourself mate!
