Goal celebrations from tomorrow

Run back to the halfway line; bow deeply and exaggeratedly to all four sides of the ground.

All the strikers on the bench take out Uzi's and shoot the scorer.

These are Mad Times. With lots of people having to change the way they are living. I'm supportive of the Football Authorities stance to try to do the right thing & play a small part in the collective effort by emphasising their own "new rules" on goal celebrations. And, I'm also supportive of Wilder's subsequent apologetic & "I get it" approach. It shows leadership & empathy. It helps place the Club & the game in the heart of community & society.

(ps, I've never been a #BigFan of Whataboutery)

got to do hands face space celebration to hammer home the message
put on mask measure out 2 metres and mime washing hands and don't take a knee as its touching a surface

The goal scorer runs to the corner flag to do a Roger Milla style jig (Bash is excused if he scores) while the rest of the team do a no hands hokey cokey around the centre circle

The goal scorer stands still and is circled by the team, meanwhile Spurs kick off and score in an empty goal.

Watching the Wolves v WBA game and they don’t seem arsed about the new rules. I wonder if anyone will call them out on it?

No, the agenda is only to pull Sheffield United, whatever other teams do doesn't matter

Load of nonsense for show.

Pandering, nothing else.

If people can't see that it's a pointless gesture based on the rest of the game, then I give up.

The argument that the rest of society can't hug or touch really is pathetic frankly. Should those of us who live with family stop hugging or holding hands if out because it sends the wrong message.

I'm absolutely convinced there is now a frightening number of people who have hardly any limits as to what they would happily accept as reasonable in the fight against Covid.

No matter how ridiculous the suggestion people queue up to say things like 'well if it saves a life'

On passing the ground this morning on my way into work, as I drove past the back of the Kop where the TV wagons had parked, it was very noticable that a lot of the techincians and engineers were not observing the 2 meter rule or wearing masks......about 11:00 to11:30 am.....stood yakking and supping coffee, they should have and hopefully will be caught on cameras around the ground and on street cams I would have thought.
So much for critising us for goal celebrations.

I'm old enough to remember when footballers hugging and whatever was felt to be effete nonsense only practised by Latin Americans, Spaniards and the odd Italian. Whilst I wouldn't want to return to those days, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect extremely highly paid and visible people to show perhaps a bit of restraint. I don't expect footballers to be role models but neither do I want them to effectively put 2 fingers up at those of us who are keeping to the rules just because they seem to be allowed to. I feel the same about politicians and their hangers on who break the rules.
When you look at the sacrifices made by many in the past 10 months, including possibly 100,000 dead by the end of January, asking footballers to "rein it in a bit" isn't exactly a lot to ask.
If you think this is a bit extreme, consider the fact that as I type this, nearly 88,000 people in this country have died due to Covid in 10 months. In the almost SIX YEARS of WW2, about 70,000 civilians died in the UK. Over half of those were killed in the various Blitzes in 1940.
Just a thought.

Sorry I find it all unnecessary. Football has been back for around 6 months in total and this has only just become an issue.

The players aren't putting two fingers up to anyone by celebrating, just like I'm not putting two fingers up to vulnerable people by hugging my wife every day.

If it was about safety then the game would be stopped because of the close contact throughout the game.

It's effectively virtue signalling because people have decided it's unfair and upsetting to people who can't look at it objectively. Football is just worried about pressure being put on them to postpone the season.

If it was genuinely to take pressure off the NHS I would support halting the season. But it's not. It's just a pointless gesture for show.

Ok Davalon, I'm quite an objective person and do my best not to rant (not good for my health, mental or physical!). I hug my wife every day too, and I hug my son when I see him (he's in our bubble). I can't hug my daughter, 6 month old grandson (or son-in-law, who's a lovely bloke and not averse to a hug!) because they live 120 miles away and meeting wouldn't be right at the moment. I think that my feelings and emotions for my family and friends should be stronger than the "urge" to hug after a goal is scored, and if I (and millions of others) can put a physical need to hug and be together on hold for a bit (and believe me, I'd rather not), why can't footballers?? Are they "special", entitled, are they just thick??
I'm not saying that footballers are putting two fingers up at people, but that a lot of people will see them (and some politicians) doing what they do and think "f**k it, the rules don't apply to them so why the f**k should they apply to me?".
This is a complex and difficult situation, and actually it would be good for football to carry on, because it gives loads of us an "outlet" and some limited enjoyment of the game we love, but for it to continue, the players and managers need to have a bit of a look at themselves.
Oh, and I'm a very long way from being a snowflake or "virtue signaller" (I'm not actually sure what one of those is!).
Cheers, UTB.

I respect the difficulties people are experiencing. I see it around me every day.

I just don't understand why this has been made a big deal. Football is continuing due to the testing and protocols in place and players are in close proximity throughout a game breathing heavily on each other.

The game continuing does give some entertainment but it's sterile enough without taking something away for show rather than for a meaningful reason.

I haven't watched Eastenders properly for years but I've caught parts of two episodes recently. It's meant to be present day and they're mentioning the situation yet life is carrying on as normal. No masks, pubs and cafes open, people mixing with one another. Surely that must irritate some too even though it's fictional drama.

Where do we draw the line doing things for show rather than for a meaningful reason.

We're at the stage now where so many people will accept any changes or restrictions whether they're meaningful or have any impact on health or not.

I'm all for short term measures to alleviate the strain on the NHS and reduce Covid cases but I find it worrying how so many people are happy to accept anything now if it's dressed up as fighting Covid.

I think we may in some ways be on the same side!! I'm not a libertarian, but I worry that when we come out the other side the government may use restrictions in a more overtly political way. I work in children's social care, and the government has already had a bit of a go at some of the safeguards for very vulnerable children and young people. But for now my worry is about the people who won't accept anything now, and think Covid is a bit of a laugh, a conspiracy, or something that only affects people who aren't like them.

The attitude towards children during this from a lot of people has disappointed and angered me.

I've withdrawn from conversing with some friends on social media due to their children can suck it up and stop moaning approach.

Children are often vulnerable and things that happen in that time can cause issues for life. I'm an example of that.

We have a friend who's a child psychiatrist and it's really worrying some of the things she's told us since the middle of last year.

Obviously the afore mentioned goal scorer should run to the centre spot arms aloft, while the rest of the team take a knee and, bow their heads whilst shouting "Guess which muppets got to get the first round in tonight".
No problem........ :tumbleweed:

Absolutely. Look after yourself mate!

If goal celebrations are a problem then so is tackling, running alongside a player, going up for headers, giving instructions on the pitch and shouting team mates names.
It's bleeding ridiculous, and suspiciously only became a problem once we got our first win.
Proving and distributing their hatred of us under the false banner of trying to be responsible that only a fucking idiot can agree with when you look at what happens during the actual game.
Fucking out and out wankers the lot of them.,
