In our case, why the chuff would we want that?

However, i like speed. He talks a good game, and he's worked with far better players in his career than Blackwell has. I say give him a go.

He has been here long enough for us to see that he has no impact.

If he can have an impact he should have stood up to Blackie and made a difference, no balls if he has, missed the opportunity.

Took us to the cleaners as a player, he knew he was a yard short when he took his money as a player. Has no feelings for the club, only time I heard him been enthusiastic was when Newcastle were coming and that was about Newcastle.

Blades fans have raved about a couple of assistants/coaches in recent years. Kevin Blackwell and Stuart McCall - the men who made Warnock look good we were told. Neither has a had a great start to their management career.

Speed would be a huge gamble. Either he hasn't been able to influence things this season which is a worry or he's been a big influence which is a bigger worry.

In the unlikely event that McCabe does get rid of KB I wouldn't be surprised if he does go for Speed because he'd be the cheap option. But I hope not.

As someone who sits behind the dug out, Speed usually has a massive role on a match day, particularly as Blackwell has taken to standing as far back in the dug out as possible and not issuing instructions to players. Speed's the one who actually looks bothered, but that's not to say he'd be a successful manager if he took over. He has the passion though.

However, Speed was sat up in the stand yesterday with Morgan.

I'm sorry but Speed hasn't managed before and i don't think it's the correct time to take a gamble. need somebody proven.

3) At the end of the season create a shortlist of potential managers and interview 5 (if we get that many applicants)

Whatever happens then is up to the candidates and the club to get the best man in for the job.

If Speed is the right man then he needs to set his stall out and compete with others for the job. He may not even want the job fulltime...

Speed is the coach his influence hasn't amounted to much,could he be the one that drives them too hard in training causing injuries.

I understand a lot of people's views on this matter, but I do think that we should give Gary Speed the caretaker's job up until the end of the season or for about 3/4 months & get rid of Blackwell. Why not bring McCall back has his number 2 (he knows some of the players), but most of all he knows this club & the most important about what the fans want & what they like to see. Also for those who dismiss this theory about Speed, didn't we give Steve Bruce the job, when he didn't have any managerial experiance, & look at how he is managing now (I know that he is a judas though).

Martinez did well at Swansea and now at Wigan
Nigel Pearsons done a good job at Leicester
You can't dismiss anyone or liken them to Heath just because they have little or no experience

Someone that pays more attention than me might be able to advise, but does Blackie make a point of coming on to the pitch and applauding the fans at the end of the game? Has he ever done this as a regular thing?

What about poaching another manager as an option? Why do we never do this? The point was never more true than after our relegation when we offered the best job in English football outside the premiership - and opted for Bryan Robson, because he was available........
