Girls and football?

Your point stands for other sports (but no one watches e.g. men's triathlon either) but this is concerted attempt by the FA to raise the awareness and over time standard of women's football, not a bad thing, some women can now make a living from football.

What? so she can pay some other woman to do the cooking and cleaning for her? That's hardly fair is it?

Thought I better put one of these in just in case.

Wading into this thread as I am, 5 pages deep and 70-something posts down, being the kind of hard-left, hummus-eating, feminist girlfriend-having modern 2016 late 20's man that I am, I could say a lot to some of the utter sexist garbage spouted in this thread thus far. A lot. But I won't, because A: I'll be here for hours, and B: I'm not gonna change anyone's mind, am I.

The one thing I will say is having the fucking brass neck to claim that women's football is over-exposed while simultaneously being a fan of men's football, (i.e, the most over-exposed, ubiquitous and popular phenomenon in the world) is beyond ridiculous. What's it to you if the girls have their game on the Beeb on a Friday?

Yeah I understand about the FA. They're clearly getting it out there. However my issue is really with the BBC. They need to be less football blinkered and the Gold Coast itu race yesterday was won by a Helen Jenkins beating powerhouse gwen Jorgenson they really should be putting sports like this on which show the class of women rather than mediocrity

Can someone bother to teach you the basics of how to use the forum? Just depositing your general shit in any place you fancy isn't what it was set up for. This forum isn't difficult to use, it would be respectful to all if you did as much.

Seems a lot of people forget womens football has been professional in this country for about 130 years less than the mens game hence, it is not of the quality or evolution. To can it off for that reason is to utterly lack understanding.

What I do object to is it taking centre stage over other sports just because it is PC to do so. The BBC should be taking a long look at the quality of the product on offer because it isn't much better than conference football, in fact ofen worse than. That is a fact and it should be treated as such. If the quality is shit then people will watch it, judge it as shit and switch off. I think this sends the womens game backwards. Also, the cynic in me thinks the BBC is doing this because it doesn't have anything else of quality in any sporting arena to show off. So if this is all you have, then you push it as much as you can.

I think womens football is a great thing, anyone playing football is a great thing. But to pretend it is better than it actually is doesn't do anyone any justice. Sport should be viewed on merit not because it is played by a particular race or gender.

And describing someone posting as 'depositing general shit' is respectful?
Fair do's. Lesson learned.

Agreed. Put it on TV, just don't watch it if you don't want to.

Attitudes towards women are regressing in the world. Pernicious (and overt) subjugation of women is being passed off as a 'difference in culture'. It shouldn't be accepted. Women's sport is one way to challenge that. Good luck to them.

Modern Culture reinforcing the feminist agenda..

It's just another one of them things that nobody really likes but that the PC world tries forcing on you.

"You will enjoy shit women football. You will promote equality. And if you don't you're a sexist pig."
I can think of more appropriate descriptions....

Whether they are rubbish or not at football, everyone should be encouraged to play the sport.

But there seems little need to dress it up as something that warrants the over-promotion it is afforded by the BBC.
Saw no fucking bleating about giggs scholes and fucking fc United of Manchester making it on to our screens twice this fucking winter...quality?

And describing someone posting as 'depositing general shit' is respectful?
Fair do's. Lesson learned.

Your thinly veiled sexism and your propensity to post everything in the Blades section of the site means any respect I may have for you disappears. I think what you posted was shit so I said it. Nothing wrong in that as I see it.

The media are just trying to bridge the gap between men and women football. I'm sorry It just will not happen no matter how PC you are. It's like trying to get a load of blokes to take up ballet. You just have to accept that some sports suit one gender more than the other.
You "have" to accept precisely fuck all. Why should it bother you that people watch women's football on tv?

Perhaps because licence fee money is being shelled out to produce live broadcasts on BBC? Now, for all my negativity towards it, I once again gave it a go this evening before switching over to watch something else equally unmemorable.
Not like watching Nigel's positive men is it? How can anyone imagine it might be?

Sorry if I've offended anyone. It was just a bit of a wind up to get us talking about something other than the usual stuff. ;)
I do agree with Swiss though. There is a disproportionate amount of women's football compared to other women's events.
It's almost like the Beeb are trying to make a point of being seen as a 'hip, with-it corporation appealing to the masses' when a significant proportion of the masses don't really want it.
My main beef with the BBC though, is that they seem to feel the need to shape the morals of our society by pushing issues such as homosexuality in an unbalanced way.
Saying that, my missus watches Neighbours which is becoming increasingly like a soft porn channel!!
And we wonder why much of our beloved UK society is failing.
So society is failing due to women's football on the bbc. I think the surface only needs to be scratched a bit more to see where you are coming from. You mention homosexuality. Why?

Is she so specialised as a goalkeeper that she really can't kick it with both feet, will she have practiced kicking with her wrong foot?

and what was your reading of the preordained demotion of the Belles - it seemed to fly in the face of anything regarded as vaguely goodsportsmanship to me? You have to have some basic fairness in sport otherwise it has no purpose does it?

Yes, I've watched her training sessions and she DOES practice kicking with BOTH feet.

I was involved with Lincoln Ladies, and they, like AFC Wimbledon to MK Dons, were moved to Notts County. That decision and the Doncaster Belles decision was taken solely on financial grounds, i.e. money talks. (At the time, Lincoln Ladies were playing at Sincil Bank, home of Lincoln City, and with Doncaster Belles were the ONLY members of the FA WSL that were playing on a PROPER football pitch, but that was NOT taken into consideration).

I've just ploughed through 6 pages of this and I disagree with a lot of the comments which as someone else has mentioned seems to be thinly veiled sexism (not at all thinly veiled in some instances).

The BBC has screened an England women's Euro international qualifying match on BBC2. Why this is something to be derided and scorned at I do not know. Of course the quality isn't up to the men's game, but we sit through many meaningless England friendlies and don't complain, as well as football right down to league 2 which is light years away from the standard at Premier league, no threads about having to endure the football league show?

The crowd at the match was 10,550 around a thousand above Rotherham's average attendance so clearly something people are wanting to watch. No one complains about Rotherham being on TV (yeh ok).

To somehow then conflate the BBC showing this with 'pushing issues such as homosexuality' frankly boggles my mind?

I enjoyed watching the match and hope England go though to the finals regardless of the standard, which incidentally is getting better year on year. If you want a Blades angle they trained at the academy before the match and one of the coaches Lee Kendall is ex-united.

To those of you that think there is no place for women's football, I suggest you send your wives back into the kitchen whilst you go down the pub for the evening and get smashed. :)

No offence to anyone but really, this is 2016, get a grip.

So where do Notts County Ladies play now?

Mmmm, to be fair, I did take on board what you said about me posting stuff on the wrong board. The rules are quite simple and I flouted them by being a little thoughtless//lazy.
As for posting shit, as I said earlier, it was a simple way to drum up a bit of lively debate. If the resulting 100 plus responses is what a shit thread on a discussion forum is, then yes, it is a shit thread.

So society is failing due to women's football on the bbc. I think the surface only needs to be scratched a bit more to see where you are coming from. You mention homosexuality. Why?

No hello, society isn't failing due to women's football on the BBC. Where on earth did you get that idea from? I do sometimes enjoy posting controversial stuff to get a reaction but that's just me being a little childish. As for seeing what's beneath the surface, feel free to scratch a little more to see what's there. Unless you already have me pre-judged as some kind of homophobe?
You wouldn't be the first!
Truth is, I have my own opinions on all things moral/legal, a lot of which no doubt disagrees with yours, the sexist homophobe? Naaaah, not me.
