Get Egan out. Get a new CB in January

I don’t rate Egan. I think he’s overrated as people see him as one of our leaders and he “pieces” the backline together with him being in the middle. Tonight showed it again, whether he scored or not, another fucking stupid mistake. I also believe he’s prone to many of the over the top balls that teams play over our defence.

Can someone relate? Or totally disagree? This is my opinion and I stand by it. Egan has done fantastically well for us at Sheffield untied but I just feel like it’s time to UPGRADE in the central defender position. Not hating, just stating my opinion.

Makes run of the mill target men look like adriano and has the iq of a fish finger
 
I don’t agree, he’s probably made less mistakes than a player who plays absolutely every minute of every game should do.

Could score more but he’s a centre half who has more touches of the ball than anyone apart from Norwood, he’s allowed the odd stray pass.

He made a mistake. Every player in the team does. He was unfortunate in that the deflection off him then cost us a goal.

When was the last time we conceded a goal that was played over the top of Egan? I can’t recall that there’s been that many but recently but I honestly can’t remember
 
I'm going to disagree with your post, reason is this if I was in the trenches and needed one person by my side that would be him. So solid everyone has a off day, think abouts the season so far

We’ve had one of the best defensive records for years because of Egan. He’s allowed a mistake or two a season
 
Was MOM for us in spite of the mistake. Four fantastic goal saving blocks in this game. He was like a human wall.
He can be done with the ball over the top as can all our options at LCB. This is largely tactical as he plays high and the right and left CB leave a lot of space when they bomb on.
 
Bit harsh to get rid off him. We must all have made the odd mistake in life but he did at least redeem himself
 
Completely agree. Said it before and tonight. Very 1 dimensional player who makes mistakes, gets beaten by simple passes over the top and for me doesn’t read the game well enough. He’s lucky we play with a back 3, JOC made him look better as does Anel now. Fine for championship, but not Premier league.

Who are we selling to finance this upgrade?
 
I thought we looked pretty solid without him against Blackpool tbf, however, its one of the last places that required an upgrade at this moment in time.
 
I like egan but of all our obvious first choice players he's probably the easiest to replace. Not in January and not now mind you.

I’ll ask you then. When was the last time we conceded from a direct ball over the top of Egan?
 
Like all players, Egan has strengths and weaknesses.
So if he's allowed to play to his strengths then he's still an excellent defender.

He seems to play well in the middle of 3 centre backs.
Think if he played in a 4-4-2 being part of 2 centre backs, he's not that good.

He's often great when the defence are regularly under pressure with the opposition putting in loads of crosses.
In the past he's been vulnerable to pace (long ball over the top) when he's stood for long spells on the half way line when we're dominating the opposition.

Let's be honest here.....apart from the odd bad mistake he was generally excellent in the Premier League
and I'm pretty confident that he'll be more than fine playing in the middle of 3 centre backs in the PL.

Always prone to a ball over the top makes mistakes which are becoming more frequent his last two games had been a shambles so a fair question.
