Mostly managed to compose myself so far, but after a few beers last night I ended up bawling my eyes out. It's very hard to explain to non football supporting friends or even some that do support other clubs if they don't have the same connection.

I've no doubt a lot on here will feel the same and have maybe had a similar experience, but I hope it helps to know that you're not alone
It is really strange. I am sure people I know are struggling to understand why I am so upset about someone I did not know pesonally or never met. It is a measure of the man that his passing has affected so many people so deeply and profoundly. For me, I think it is all about how George represented me and all the rest of us. The fact that he was so young makes it much worse. Chris Wilder called him a culture carrier and I think that is right. He was such an integral part of that amazing team that got us back to the Premier League and beyond. What made that team so special was their togetherness and their connection with the supporters. George was so influential in all of that. When you read comments from MK Dons and Oxford United fans you can tell he did that there too. For us he just wasn't part of a good team but one of what Dean Henderson ( I think it was) called a band of brothers when he left. I have supported the Blades since the 1960s. I loved the teams from the early 70s and the Bassett era. They made me proud of my club. George was part of a team that was possibly even better and even more loved. I think it is also his qualities as a human being and not just a footballer that makes his passing so sad. Starman - absolutely!

I've just seen a FB post from a Leeds forum wondering how Bogle is going to get through the game next Friday as he was close to George. I would say, how are OUR team going to get through next Friday?😔
That's my worries, a game we need to win but what state are our players going to be in. It's going to be a tough night 😢

I’d hope they’ll play like George would. No compromise, no quarter asked or given, and a victory at the end.

I wanted to edit this and make it fit for Furious.
Spent a day thinking this.
Then I thought no, that would be wrong.
So in respect of John Gillespie Magee I shall call it "High Flight Down the Wing".

That 19-20 pre lock down team was basically:

Henderson

Baldock
Basham
Egan
O'Connell
Stevens

Lundstrum
Norwood
Fleck

Mousset
McGoldrick

With the exception of Henderson and (possibly) Lundstrum, for every player in that team, it was the absolute peak of their careers. At no other point would they get anywhere near a Champions League challenging team. For 7 great months a United team came together perfectly. I've never seen anything like it.

For his huge part in that, George will.never be forgotten. RIP.

we’d have done it, theyd have deserved it. But Covid.

That was as sombre as I ever recall seeing the Lane. Granted, it's not match day, but the place was busy with a steady stream of folk coming and going and it was almost eerily quiet and just incredibly, incredibly sad. Our club is a family and this family is hurting, for one of our own and their immediate family. I still can't muster the words, but by 'eck our George, you were loved. Go well, lad.

good post Kozzy . we are hurting .. UTB .. RIP GB2 x

Disagree. No.2 is too iconic a number to retire, it deprives future generations from wearing it. George can be remembered permanently in many other ways around the ground and by the club.
there are always 2 sides to the coin and i fully understand what you are saying
