Genuine Question

No, they didn't. I'm not having that one. Just because it rhymes doesn't mean they started it. Everyone knows that Bob Booker got it first, just after he discovered the South Pole and penicillin.

Why is it? How many of them are older than 25?

I'm 27 by the way, I'm still only a kid myself.

Since when does being 25 or under make you a kid?

There's plenty over 18 in the singing section, but even if there weren't, why would it be so bad that it's full of younger supporters? I find this whole argument very bizarre.

Linz was having a go at GC88 for categorising the fans yet has done the same thing in calling the singing section 'kids' then saying the people who disagree with it are all older ones- both generalisations and both untrue.

These posts are very disheartening to see.

You'll find that I modified it myself by adding the words "generally". We can have another poll if you want?

But then, I am used to people not actually reading what's written and making stuff up to suit their own agenda...

Just like I club baby seals and invented Fanta. FACT!

United back these chants so if you don't you are against united.

It is impossible to disagree with the statement I made.

I can't argue with your statement, because it is impossible. So it follows that if I try, I will be wrong. You are therefore saying I am wrong and that you are right.

Are you a total spesh-head?

I don't like having it as goal celebration music but it is a good melody for a chant a chant such as the Rooney one.

So by your own logic you are therefore against United.

No.

I could tell you the right mentality to have but havent.

No you couldn't. You can't tell the thousands who support United the "right mentality to have" anymore than you can tell the sun not to rise. How dare you tell other fans how to support their club, and what mentality to have? To each their own. Just because it differs from yours doesn't make it wrong, and believing otherwise is a short step away from believing yourself to be either Napoleon or a giraffe. Which is it to be? Big leggy herbivore or short-arsed Frenchman?

It's not a case of making stuff up. I'm sorry but it's clear you've assumed that the majority of the singing section are under 18s (which I wouldn't say is the case), and like you said, you think most of the older Blades don't agree with it. That's probably not true to be honest, there were loads on forums after the match applauding the efforts of the singing section, and a few people during the match itself.

Since when does being 25 or under make you a kid?

It's just my opinion. There are Blades fans at the Lane in their 70s and older. I am a relative kid.

...why would it be so bad that it's full of younger supporters? I find this whole argument very bizarre.

So I do, I never made that argument. I simply said "these kids are starting to annoy me", referring to the few people who have posted on here telling me how to be a proper fan. You picked out the "kids" bit for special examination, pal.

No because I accept why they play it and I think it's chosen by someone fairly low down at the club.

But you don't back it, just as I don't back blades singing Dale Cavese.

Where is the difference? You said "United back these chants so if you don't you are against united."

The poll about the greasy chip butty song is meaningless anyway.

Like I've said, what's the problem with that? Why 25, and why does being under 25 not make you a proper supporter? Because you seem to be writing off the lads in there like they don't matter. Your being quite hypocritical to be honest!

No.

I'm going to embolden this bit so you actually might read it.

I have said all along that it's each to their own. Do what you like. Have an orgy if you want to. Nobody is trying to stop you.

However, people have said that they think it's daft, the "songs" are crap and you're going off like you invented support. But still. Nobody is trying to stop you.

You're the ones trying to strong-arm your views on others. Most of the people on this thread are experienced enough in life to know that you will never find anyone who completely agrees with you.

You're trying to win people over and you are doing the exact opposite because, and as I said earlier I am trying to be tactful, the advocates of this section are being very abrasive. Who started this? Well, I can certainly see where the first dummy came from!

The poll about the greasy chip butty song is meaningless anyway.

This is my new favourite post ever.

But you don't back it, just as I don't back blades singing Dale Cavese.

Where is the difference? You said "United back these chants so if you don't you are against united."

Was it the operations director who spoke about the cavese chant - someone who is a big part of the club.

The tom hark song is just played by the dj.

The poll about the greasy chip butty song is meaningless anyway.

Surely it's as representive as your research that allows you to "confirm" the origins? even though you don't seem to be sure yourself.

I'm still a bit confused on this one:

Foxy said:
How does this relate badly to us stealing songs that others are also stealing and are already famously linked with(and even named after) other European clubs?

Ah, but surely the operations director is "prawn sarnie".

He sits on the comfy seats and everything.

That's surely like Darth Vader telling the Jedi to keep up the good work?

It's his career so isn't "prawn sarnie" - it's clear he understands more than some fans.

Some fans, namely me, are getting a little tired of this tooing and froing.

Can we leave it at: you do what you want and feel free to think we're boring old sods, prawn sarnie and whatever else you want to call us. Frankly, I've been called worse.

And you leave it at: we'll do what we want, go about supporting the club as we have done for years and look on with some mirth at the unspecified, un-gendered group of like-minded individuals who think random Italian noise is FTW!

Never the twain shall meet... thank god.

No.

I can't believe I'm the one being accused of spitting a dummy here. I don't care where the bloody GCB song came from and basically said that- but this is a different debate.

You've come across as very patronising from post 1 of this thread and very dismissive towards the members of the singing section and their efforts. I'm just putting my point of view across and I'm genuinely disappointed to read that fellow Blades wouldn't have anything but support for this idea.

I also don't understand why you're saying other people think they invented support, because to me I don't think anybody is coming across like that. I'm not strong-arming my views on anybody, quite the contrary if anything. Am I not allowed to ask why you disapprove of the singing section?

Obviously I know everybody's not going to agree on everything here- but to imply it's just the older generation (who happen to agree with you here) that understand this is yet again, patronising.

So the GCB is Rotherham's.

That would be something a club like them would be extremely proud of, no disrespect intended.

So why on earth don't they sing it now?

It's his career so isn't "prawn sarnie" - it's clear he understands more than some fans.

I take it you've performed the same in depth analysis of the rest of the fans labeled "sarnie"?

Can I just make a bit of a plea please? hello readers from Blades Mad, If you'd be awfully kind, could you please actually try reading and digesting what people say before slagging us off?

There have been plenty of digs at this forum as a whole in recent times and I don't think a single one of them has actually matched any opinion of any member of this site

I'm not going to spell out for the 400th time my opinion of the singing section or the songs, as it was rendered utterly pointless when GC88 first decided to proclaim to the world that he could confirm "S24SU don't support united and slag anyone off that do".

We are all Blades and I speak for no-one other than myself when I say I'm NOT trying to stop anyone doing anything and am merely giving my own opinion on my matchday experiences and ratings of songs.

If you bother to read, I've said multiple times best of luck to anyone trying to improve the atmosphere and even offered pointers as to how I think the idea could be grown and encourage others to join, to mainly be abused or lied about ;)

Cheers.

Am I not allowed to ask why you disapprove of the singing section?

Aren't most people indifferent? Pretty sure most people aren't against it. I personally don't give a fig either way about having a singing section, but I do strongly dislike people coming on message boards and telling me I'm not a proper fan, or telling me what I should or shouldn't be doing.

This discussion is still going in circles, I see.

I think they have other 'anthems'.

Different songs mean more to different clubs.

I can't believe I'm the one being accused of spitting a dummy here.

Did I even say you?

Erm... nope.

If you actually read the thread, it was samcunliff. Again, you jump to assumptions.

You've come across as very patronising from post 1 of this thread and very dismissive towards the members of the singing section and their efforts. I'm just putting my point of view across and I'm genuinely disappointed to read that fellow Blades wouldn't have anything but support for this idea.

Everyone has the right to their own opinion and, as I have said before, you aren't going to change it by posting as you have in this thread. I'm not trying to change your minds. You're all set on this singing and dancing business. Go for it.

And as you've referred to me as "ignorant", "hypocritical" and now "patronising" I don't think it's remiss of me to say that you're annoying the tits off me. And that's without you being stood there twirling a bit of wool at me chanting non-verbal noises at me akin to those of a baby who cannot yet speak.

I also don't understand why you're saying other people think they invented support, because to me I don't think anybody is coming across like that. I'm not strong-arming my views on anybody, quite the contrary if anything. Am I not allowed to ask why you disapprove of the singing section?

Of course you are, just like I'm allowed to say that if the advocates in this thread are anything to go by, I would have to repeat myself ten times whilst trying to have a conversation with them because they are too cloth-eared to actually listen to what is being said. Probably best I'm nothing to do with the singing section because my patience, while expansive, does have an upper limit.

Obviously I know everybody's not going to agree on everything here- but to imply it's just the older generation (who happen to agree with you here) that understand this is yet again, patronising.

Just a point, I don't think you understand the meaning of the word "patronising".

Well you did say you wrote a nasty response and the 'kids' () were winding you up- so I presumed by that you weren't keen on the idea.

Some on here have said they don't like the idea and don't want to be told how to support the team, they're not being told or forced to do anything but there's definitely 'anti-singing section' feelings on here.

But if it was their 'invention' and had relevance to their club or their town, surely they'd sing it like we do?

No, there's an anti-being pestered to fuck about 'singing' wanky Italian 'songs' feeling on here.

No one has said anything about the singing section being bad.
