Who is the bloke talking on the video?

A lad and fellow Blade I played footy with on the local field when growing up, took his own life this week. I’ve not seen him for years, but reading various posts online by his close friends, nobody had any idea he was struggling.

Blokes need to start talking more when they’re struggling, there’s always someone willing to listen and help the best they can and plenty of professionals out there you can go to in confidence.

Speaking as someone who has been where he was, very recently, the reminder of his death today really got me in the feels. It's hard, because I was (and still semi-am) in a place where I don't want to live any more, but then it's hard to reconcile that with being sad about the waste of Speedo's life and what it continues to mean to his friends and family.
I can empathise with some of that mate, many of us struggle and take each day as it comes. It's all we can do🙏.
Keep on keeping on buddy.👍

Still chokes me up thinking about speedo. The photo of his dad with speedos lads, crying his eyes out, just horrible.

I know people referred to Berge as a Rolls Royce player, but Speed is the only Rolls Royce I've seen play for Sheffield United. He was pure class. Everytime he got the ball he seemed to be in acres of space and had all the time in the world to decide what to do with it and rarely gave the ball away. He was a pleasure to watch and I always considered it a privilege that he chose to end his playing career at Sheffield United.

The thing I always think said the most about Gary Speed was that he was universally liked by everyone. No fans had a bad word to say about him. Manchester United fans didn't hate him. Sunderland fans didn't hate him. Blackburn fans didn't hate him. Liverpool fans didn't hate him. Wednesday fans didn't hate him.

I always felt sorry for Robbie Savage on the day Speed died. That interview he did was tough to watch. Craig Bellamy too.

It's not really the racism that annoys me it's just a really small town near Middlesbrough and they haven't had much interaction with others apart from whites, but whenever I come to Sheffield I notice the difference I stayed with my uncle up pitsmoor and some of the abuse white people got around there was unreal,it's the fact I have no one in my life and coming on here sometimes brightens my day.
Just keep going mate that's all you can do (i did) and sometimes there is light at the end of the tunnel. Keep posting as well because believe it or not people really do care. If I lived nearer we could have a small gathering of Blades once a month or something which would be good just for a coffee and chat. Any other Blades up near this fella?

im back in Sheffield now brother

He wasn't with us for the most prominent years of his career, and he rightly left us for an important opportunity for him. That said, this one hit me hard at the time and still shakes me a little each passing year. I'm not fully sure why. It's the vulnerability of it all, the silent suffering perhaps. The fact he was one of life's good guys, from all who spoke of him.
