Guys, hard to believe that it's a year ago today that Speedo died. Incredibly sad for his family and all those who knew him.

All of us will never forget where we were or what we were doing that Sunday lunchtime when we heard the terrible news.

RIP Speedo, a legend at all the clubs that you played for, you will always be a legend for the Club that you managed.

It's 4am (insomnia strikes again) and "Gary Speed RIP" is currently a top trend on Twitter.

RIP Speedo

Was at Man Airport waiting to board to Dubai, very sad day

I was in a cafe near Birmingham when I spotted the news on a TV screen.

Whilst it was shocking news and a tragedy for his family and friends, I don't think he will "always be a legend for the club he managed". He wasn't even our manager when he died.

I look at him as a legend for services to football, but had a connection with the Blades during that time.

He was a legend for us as a player.

At 38 (i think??) he was still quality. Great bloke and a legend throughout football. I don't think his comment meant that he was a legendary manager

Not a SUFC legend in my opinion. But a cracking player from my generation. Remember him being part of a very good Leeds team that won the league (Cantona, McAllister etc), a decent Newcastle outfit that narrowly missed out on the FA cup (including bossing the game at Old Trafford when we played them), proving he could cut the mustard still in the twilight of his career at Bolton and of course still looking great at 38 with us in the 2nd tier. Remember him for being a box to box, super fit midfielder with real ability on the ball, but also the way he could rise like a salmon to head the ball and was always a threat at set pieces.

It was shocking news at the time. Can't believe it was a year go.

His death was a great tragedy and he was still a very good player when he came to us, but I think calling him a legend for us as a player is probably stretching it a bit. Stuart McCall's contribution as a player was far greater, but noone has ever described him as a legend.

Steve McCall is definately legendary status. He and Michael Brown formed THE best midfield partnership of my time

Whilst it was a very sad loss, the saddest thing is that he chose to leave his children fatherless just a month before Christmas. Not that doing it at any other time would make it any easier for them.

A bit harsh. I don't think people who commit suicide are thinking rationally when they kill themselves, probably just overwhelmed with despair.

RIP Gary. It's hard to believe its a year ago. Sad loss to football, and a tragic loss to his family and friends. Depression (if that's what it was) doesn't care for success, status, wealth or anything for that matter. Just hope those close to him can take some small comfort from the high regard he was held in. You don't come across that many people in football who achieve so much without a bad word said against them.
