The rumour persists he is not adverse to the concept of getting a sleeping giant back on its feet and to me he is not a bad choice as a candidate, so was pleased to hear he is due for a chat .True he has the biggest nose in football but his other attributes outweigh that.

I have been keeping a check on the bookies odds on sky bet. Wilder was favourite until last week when Robinson shortened and he was odds on yesterday. Today he is evens. But the main change today was that Roy Keane who was never on the bookies list even as an outsider has appeared at 7/1. This would suggest he is due for a chat.

Rest assured, McCabe is aiming so low, he will shoot himself in the foot ..... again

I think Gareth would be a good appointment/ Many would disagree of course but i think given a good crack at it. He would get us back up there.

Didn't Southgate get Boro relegated while bringing through a brilliant crop of kids? McCabe will be seeing one aspect of that CV...

In truth I'd be fairly sure we can't afford him anyway.

I'm sure Southgate can sit with 'good' players and give them a game plan that they can deliver.
His demeanour seems to give this impression.

Whether this can work with Div3 players frightens me.

I put a tenner on Southgate when he was 33/1 a few weeks ago... But I still don't want him

I cannot think of one positive thing to say aboiut the possible appointment of Southgate.

Wasted lots of cash, got relegated and has a poor win record. He comes across as a pussy when sat at the side of Roy Keane, and would want significant wad to tempt him away from telling everyone about how it should be done on Sky, despite the fact he couldn't do it himself.

On the wankness scale, he would rate just below Bryan Robson.

I see Garry Johnson's Yeovil are looking good today. All for about a seventh of our budget

The same thing happened to Bobby Charlton at Preston. He found it frustrating that the players couldnt do the same things as he could do. Once at training, he gathered the players to the touchline at the pitch, he told a player to go to the other side of the pitch. He told the watching players to do the same pass as he was demonstrating. He delivered an inch perfect pass to the player at the other side of the pitch. The watching players were looking at each other as if they were saying "Crickey, I cannot play a pass like that"

If Southgate's appointed that's at least 3 fans who won't be returning. McCabe needs to be certified if he picks him.

I wonder sometimes that we still think we are a prize club to work for.

Fact 1: Third Divison
Fact 2: We have to reduce the wage bill
Fact 3: Fans who get twitchy after a couple of bad results

What type of manager do we all think we will get?

Its going to be an expirenced manager who failed at aprevious club but still has potential or a manager who has done well but has no experiance of promotion from the third to the championship.

Every manager whos names have been mentioned so far all have thier + & - just need to get behind the next one for the next 2 or 3 years. None of this calling for heads after a few bad games.

God know what some of you would have done to Harry when we went 17 games without a win in the prem. :(

Not all of our fans are like that. I remember this board being full of people saying how well we'd played and how rosy the future looked after we'd been hammered 4-0 at home by Scunthorpe in the season we were relegated. where some saw the green shoots of recovery, I saw it as a humiliating defeat to a relegation rival and after that weekend, with the fans apparently lapping that sort of display up, I knew we were doomed.

Then again this season, the 2-2 home draw to Brentford. People were tripping over themselves rejoicing the return of 'entertainment' to the Lane, I just thought we'd once again shown signs of bottling it and had in fact pissed away our last chance for Automatic.

I suppose it still boils down to the same thing as your original premise - We're far worse than most of our fans recognise.

Harry was a hero, he could have gone 18 wi' no trouble.

Southgate has been a TV pundit in recent times. I wonder how many games outside the Premiership he has watched during this time. We need someone with lower league experience to unearth the hidden gems.

If Mr Southgate was to be employed by Sheffield United, I guarantee within the first couple of weeks of the season we wouldn't be able to move for posts about his choice of clothing.

Some good points there, but there's a big difference. It was widely accepted that Bassett was polishing a turd, and it's now widely accepted that we flush cash down the toilet for fun. It's very difficult to feel positive when you can think that you could run things better yourself, and actually probably be correct.
