I was thinking (dangerous) - with the future of our strikers personally i think Beattie , Stead and Sharp will make it as strikers at the club - i think Shelton to get regular team football may have to adapt to the wing and use his pace that way - Webber is going to be hit and miss either midfield/ striker - Horse i am not sure about i think if young Jordan Robertson can show is worth again on loan i think he will replace Horse in the pecking order -

The forwards haven't been and won't be a problem for us all season. We have plenty of good strikers and it's going to be interesting because all the strikers know that if they're not scoring they can be replaced and someone else might take their place.

We need a pacy option (Webber), a target man (Hulse, Beatie), a poacher (Sharp) and a link player (Stead) to cover every type of striker required.

Get rid of Shelton and Horsfield and i still think we are over stocked with forwards perhaps paving the way for Rob Hulse to return to the premiership in January.

You've forgotten about the best striker at the club.

ROB HULSE!!!

Exactly and i am worried about him.

I mean if Beattie and Webber start working well together then Hulse aint gonna get a look in.

It's gonna take an injury to Beattie for Hulse to get a start.

Why you worried? If Webber and Beattie are working well and no injuries then there is nothing to worry about.

I'm sorry guys but Hulse in my eyes should start ahead of everyone. He's the no.1 striker at the club, his performances last season in the prem were short of incredible.

Scoring 9 times is not bad at all when you consider the negative tactics away from home and the fact that our midfield couldn't create an opening in a sponge cake with a samurai sword.

Yes Beattie is looking OK but he's not looking any better than Hulse.

Im worried we may lose a decent striker that's all.

If Beattie and Co are performing well thats all good but it would ashame to see Hulse not getting a look in.

I have to disagree RaWW,

Hulse did very well last season yes, there is no dispute in that. But he scored only 8 in 29 games, also missed a penalty if I recall too. But he was very good value for money, and definately part of the plans for the future.

Beattie has impressed me in the games so far, and I think things can only get better with him, his link up play is very good, he is very good in the air and some of his movement is fantastic.

Hulse is yet to come back from a very serious injury, and we are yet to see if he can even come back to the sort of standard what we saw of him in Prem. but even then it would be close to choose over them.

Robbie that's nearly a goal every 3 games, in the prem, with a shit midfield. That's a very good account in my book.

Obviously we have to wait to see if he's back to 100% after the injury but don't forget that Beattie has only played 4 CCC games, I bet if Hulse was 100% he would have played just as well.

I know it might not seem like the best partnership on paper due to styles but if Beattie and Hulse could work together that would be unstoppable at this level.

I just think it's bang out of order to forget Hulse so quickly after everything he did for us last season, he was far and away our best player last season.

It's closer to 1 in 4 though ;) haha

And don't worry, I am not forgetting Hulse, as said I think he still has a very strong future for us, and I hope Robson thinks the same. I wish he was back from injury now, as you said, lets give em both a try up front together. They're both clever enough to link uop together if you ask me.

God damn you and your maths, I'd have gotten away with it if it wasn't for you pesky kid!!! ;)

I wasn't aiming the post at you with regards to saying forgetting Hulse, but nearly every post you read it's about who can play up front with Beattie as if he's all of a sudden Jesus, end of the day he's had 4 decent games in the CCC.

Haven't you heard.... he is

It's no longer JC, its JB :D

It will be interesting to see how things develop when Hulse returns, regardless of his goal per game ratio last year(which I personally think was fantastic all things taken into account) nobody can deny that his work rate was top class and for me he was our best attacking player by a country mile.

James Beattie has come in and in my opinion has so far looked the best all round forward I have seen at the lane in a very long time (including Hulse).

The style of these two forwards do no compliment one another on paper but other similar partnerships have flourished in the past (Shearer and Sutton springs instantly to mind) and so we cannot possibly rule this double act out until they have been given the opportunity to play.

One thing which may have a bearing on just how much of a chance is given to Hulse is his relationship with Robbo; I know that both parties have said that this is a fresh start but I doubt that water passes under such bridges as easily as this would suggest.

I tell you what Jodman if Hulse doesn't get a look in I will be wanting Robson out regardless of where we are in the league.

Hulse was everything about SUFC last season, hard work and determination added with a bit of skill and quality finishing, he deserves to be right back in contention.

I really do hope that Hulse & Beattie would work, not sure about it though but as I said if they did click, they'd be unstoppable.

I think if we had Beattie and Hulse up front with 2 quick wingers either side it would be a fantastic attaking line up.

Somebody similar to such as Routledge on either wing who has lightning pace to get up with the forwards to link up, get to flick ons and get crosses in, I can see it working.

And let's not forget, Hulse isn't necessarily a slouch. I was surprised at how quick he actually was.

I agree and if I’m honest I fully expect him to come back into the team; I just think that the history between Robbo and Hulse COULD hold some sway; it’s not like Robbo is short of options up front.

The problem is, as you pointed out earlier in the thread, our midfield is simply not creating the chances; I dare say that we could have had Sammuel Eto up front for the first 4 games of the season and we would be no better off.

I’m still furious that the midfield problem hasn’t been addressed but I don’t wanna drag this thread off into that tired direction.

I’m hopeful that with Beattie, Hulse and Stead we have the forward players that can not only succeed at this level but in the Premiership too.

Agree mate, like you said don't need to divert off into the MF problem cos we all know well and good it should have been sorted.

It also astounds me that Stead isn't getting a game when he clearly is on form, he ended last season on fire and he's banged in goals already in the cup.

I know Sharp is a 'fans favourite' and I really believe that part of his signing was a 'sweetener' for the fans but I don't think he should be starting in front of Stead, I bet he's well peed off.

So I’m not the only one!

I have seen nothing from Billy that suggests he should be starting ahead of Stead; I am seriously worried that the lack of first team opportunities will see him leave in January and I think that will be a big mistake.

I have nothing against Sharp, I wasn’t one of the many fans that were calling for us to sign him again and neither was I against his signing but I do not think he should have been brought in as a first choice forward from day one. The step up has proved to be a difficult one so far and I think he should have been allowed to ease into things with some substitute appearances; the pressure on the poor kid must be starting to get to him.

I’m sure I’ll take some stick for speaking against Billy but I stand by my opinion that Stead should be ahead of him in the pecking order.

As Olive sang, you're not alone.

i think exactly the same, he should have been eased in but I think he's just playing him to keep the fans sweet.

And now cos Webber got 2 goals at Scunny he's now no.1 to play with Beattie, how the fuck is Stead gonna prove himself if he's not playing.

Don't wanna go down this route either but it all goes back to Robson.

Webber and Stead are both ahead of Sharp in the pecking order at the moment.

Beattie and Stead/Webber next match with Sharp on the bench.

I reckon Sharp would score goals if we ever got the ball into the box ie poachers goal and as we aint doing that he probably will struggle.

I hope hulse and beattie work together because that would be frigging awesome.
