Saw the "sack Slav" post. Just thought i'd post.

Slav didn't start one season well for us but each time we ended up playing the best football in the division by the end of the season. We were unlucky (in his first full season) in the playoffs against Reading and then went up deservedly against Villa, after only just missing out on 2nd. We went on a 23 game unbeaten run, started by a Ryan Sessegnon hatrick away at some team in Sheffield who i think were 1st or 2nd at the time. We were around mid table at that point.

He tinkers for about half a season, gradually getting less and less so, before finally playing the same side every week. If you are doing your business late (like our very own Tony Khan does) then i'd imagine it will be Christmas time before you start winning ALL your games. In the mean time i wouldn't panic (although that's always hard in football circles).

I remember Watford coming to the cottage and tonking us 5-0 once with Slav as manager. Unbelievable football and an absolute legend. One of my favourite ever managers. Charlie Cooper (This Country) referred to him as "beautiful" in the run up ton Wembley, which is about right.

Well, anyway, good luck with the season.

...And can i just say, next time when i leave Brammall Lane after an inevitable loss, can you please make sure that us posh Londoners don't get abused by your Father/young-son combos (in the exact same spot each time). Although extraordinary, it wasn't very becoming! : )

Let's hope you're right but I'm not sure our shredded nerves can take much more shredding!

It's Bramall Lane by the way

Regarding the father/son combo in the exact same spot each time, choose a different way round them.

Easy.

Thanks for the post mate. I think after such a disappointing last season, people were hoping for some instant cheer with new manager and fans back in.

I firmly agree IF we can keep hold of Slav and not piss him off he will get us perfected by next season.

Here's hoping anyway!

I don't hold him accountable for anything so far.

Those that do must be expecting miracles.

He's a guy that may be adaptable but generally plays with wingers in a 4-3-3.

He has inherited a squad purposefully built with no wingers and has so far been allowed to sign one centre back.

His preseason was curtailed by factors well out of his control limiting it to a low key friendly in Gibraltar and a local game won easily, and already he is without two starters from his first selection (Mousset, Ramsdale).

The team he has inherited had the unenviable record of losing 29/38. This current set of players lose. It's what they do. And they do it a lot.

Whilst a number have shown they can be better than recent form, once you are into your second year of not doing it, then it isn't unreasonable to question whether you can do it at all anymore.

And so without seeing him complete a replacement exercise on half the matchday XI, we are not much short of asking him to turn water into wine.

In general I agree with you but 12 months ago Norwich were very, very used to losing without scoring too. They also kept the same team and manager - I've never lamented the latter though in our case.

The season is long and I'm not concerned... yet. However it's also the case that a good manager is adaptable and he knew very well what he was getting into with the majority of players who were always going to be staying put.

But.... even if it's not how he wants it he should still be capable of putting out a team that can eke out good results. That we don't look like doing that, so far, is going to bother me if this run continues.

Please hammer that horrible footballing side WBA , they will bully and bore you till you lose hope u hammer them when u play them cheers .

Ha!
I had a do with some Fulham fans after the 4-5 game.
Me and my old man lost our cool with a group of toffs trying to wind our fans up on the walk to the car.

Anyway, cheers for the post. I hope a few take it onboard and we give Slav plenty of time and money, he has a big job on his hands but all I keep hearing are positive things that we have the right man in place for it.

Give a manager time you say? Strange concept and it won’t wash with some on here.

Patience isn't in abundance amongst our fanbase but we've also got another problem with some....Slav isn't Chris Wilder.

The difference with Watford and Fulham is they had talented footballers who gave a damn.
And knew how to put the ball in the old onion bag.
Slav has not been told about the Old English proverb... You can`t polish a turd.

While I don't question Slav at the moment and he can have as long as he needs for me as long as there is some sort of plan in place and gradually improvement. I do however, question the club and hierarchy. The whole pre season was a shit show from Slavs belated start date, lack of friendlies organised, covid in the camp, covid in other camps (yes the covid is out of our control), and no signings or relevant outgoings before the season started . I understand Slav was contracted somewhere else but surely backroom staff could have got to work or been in dialogue with the board about what needed to happen. We've been relegated since January and seem to have wasted months when we could have been ahead of the likes of Fulham and WBA in planning and preparation. All just seems disorganised and amateur to me. We now find ourselves with 1 point and a team with 5 or 6 players that either arn't good enough or don't fit the managers way of playing.

Can i ask you who was Slav's helper, you know the "mind within the mind" at CC.

We've also got talented footballers. maybe not as many as those other teams, but I expect most of them also give a damn.

The problem is, they all seem to have some form of ptsd. Slav's challenges this season is to crack their psychology, as much as it is about style of play.

That Preston fan Lilly White hasn't been on here for ages, or that L***s
Still have HIP and the - err - "venerable" jonnyredWCFC.
Makes forum more interesting hearing their opinions, stories and tales of woe.

I’ve said this numerous times over the weekend, we are a bunch of losers and seem resigned to lose or give a daft goal away because it’s become the norm.

Huddersfield were dogshit and we still gave them 2 goals. It’s the mentality of the players causing this. Zero belief in the players that they can get out of the rut. It’s getting towards Eileen Drewery time for some of them.

Good post mate.

I'm definitely in the keep slav camp but I worry there is too much wrong for him to fix. Crap players on long contracts, losing mentality, no idea how to score, no good keeper, not much time left to get replacements in etc. It's a tough job for anyone, even one with a great record. We might take two years to rebuild out of this mess.

Cheers mate nice post full of genuine feeling, I'm shocked that our fans can ask to sack him he has to build and set his style on the team. I think you'll go up as for us it is a rebuilding season at best in my eyes good luck.

Patience isn't in abundance amongst our fanbase but we've also got another problem with some....Slav isn't Chris Wilder.

I wonder why patience isn't a virtue of our fanbase ?

Maybe it's because so many of us have only ever wanted a team that could do a simple thing like pass, move and create, and they have been waiting 50 years for it.

I think anybody would run out of patience when even the most simple and basic demand is constantly ignored in favour of a bunch of hard working, unskilled scrubbers.

It's not too much to ask, we don't demand Premier League titles and FA cups, just a bit of entertainment every now and then.

Sheffield United are the only club that can go on a good run and consistently win games, but still be absolutely fucking crap. They just do everything in a crap way, they win crap, draw crap, lose crap, sign crap and play crap. The general lack of satisfaction after almost every game no matter what the result has been hanging around this place for decades.

I think a club that can still attract near 30,000 people for second tier football after the shit we have to endure is a miracle, and the only good thing about Sheffield United is its fans, everything else is amateur.
